  2. @ThePoshBarbarian, thanks for taking part in the discussion. I'm going to try to answer your main observations, with relevant quotes and their sources hidden: "Psīlós" is a term too general to use for any unit in particular, and applies to all city-states. They were indeed light troops, but basically means skirmisher (and more), those throwing rocks with their hands would even be included. They have then to be ignored, because are usually already considered (javelineers, etc). Euzonoi seems to be a similar generic term, I can't find anything in army oriented sources, besides the term itself in that lexicon. I'd remove Athenian slingers (while maybe having Rhodian ones as mercenaries), from the sources archers and javelineers seem to have been more associated with Athens. Maybe it'd require more reading and decision making, but I'd give non-mercenary slingers to the more northern pastoral Macedonians and Thebans (when they are added). Sometimes it's difficult to identify if peltasts are mercenaries or not, usually they are. Sparta and Athens hired them, and even if one reads "Athenian peltast", other information reveals that they are probably mercenaries (like those under Iphicrates). Still, many state that Athens did organise native peltasts. Macedonians also seem to have non-mercenary peltasts, with Agrianian javelinmen considered allies. This is portrayed in the game, although not sure if their elite status is (not being champions).
  3. Cherusci, Franks, Alemanni, Goths, Marcomanni. They all appeared before 300 AD.
  4. Nice work you should work othe smooth shading though

  6. Hey everyone, I’m here to share some more news about my mod, World Rising! Unfortunately, I had a problem with my graphics card, which ended up burning out, so I was unable to work on the project for a while. But now I’m back! Even with this setback, I still managed to make good progress on development. I created new buildings and also worked on several new technologies for them, with the goal of making the progression between cultures more interesting and noticeable throughout the game. By the end of this week, I plan to add new units, finish more technologies, and create a few more buildings. Little by little, the transition from the Jomon culture to the Yayoi culture is really starting to take shape, and I’m very happy with how this evolution is looking visually in the game. For now, here are some images showing a little of the Jomon → Yayoi transition. As always, let me know what you think! Criticism, suggestions, and ideas are always welcome and really help with the development of World Rising. Thank you to everyone who continues to follow and support the project!
  7. Been working on porting the Illyrians, Thracians, and Garamantians, all thanks to @Stan` pyrogenesis migration scripts. Currently working on just getting the Illyrians (my fork) up to date + adding a few details like civ bonuses, team bonuses and hero bonuses (plus naming the heros). Wanted to ask here, anything in particular I should keep in mind while working on these? EDIT: currently just working on using ancient greek language (I believe it's koine?) names for units, I mostly just referenced from athenian, spartan, and macedonian unit names, and checking through wiktionary https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Main_Page. Checked to see what the status on the Illyrian language is, very few useable references, probably won't be able to use it for SpecificNames.
  8. The commands.txt is from a 0.28.0. I can't reproduce the error (with that version).
  9. Agreed on the removal/restriction of techs for sparta. In general I'd love to see this applied to other factions as well, when it fits them historically. There could also be some restriction where some techs that would normally be available to some civs earlier, would be available later for other civs that have similar background/culture (bit misleading wording, but I'm thinking more like differences between gaul and britons, with gauls having better cavalry than the brits, and the tech requirements/restrictions reflecting that)
  10. Actually for naked fanatics, I can't find the exact source, but I do remember some discussion a while back I had on an different forum, where it was discussed that while most "naked fanatics" were definitely naked, a few still kept their pants on. I'll try and find the discussion again, but it does sound kinda neat little visual easter egg?
  11. For the extended timeline of the mod (500 BC-300 AD), are there any others that might be appropriate?
  12. In regards to some of the suggestions, specifically regarding unit tweaks/changes, would it be better to have "psīlós" (ancient greek word for lightly armoured troops https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ψιλός#Ancient_Greek ). It seems to have been a thing amongst most greek armies https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psiloi and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Greek_warfare#Other_elements_of_Greek_armies , though I'm still trying to find more references atm. In terms of implementation, I'd argue that you'd have 3 unit types, slingers (sphendonêtai ?), javelins (ăkontĭstḗs https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ἀκοντιστής ), and archers (toxótēs https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/τοξότης ), all recruitable from CC, and quite cheap, but with very poor stats. From the wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psiloi (though not seeing many good references on the page itself, mostly wikitionary pages for the word etymologies) "The psiloi were the least prestigious military class deployed by the ancient world. A member of the psiloi was normally a man or boy from the lower ranks of his society, unable to afford the shield and armor of the hoplites, let alone the horse ridden by the socially elite cavalryman, the hippeus (ἱππεύς). Another term for a member of the psiloi was gymnetes, (γυμνῆτες), "the lightly armed"." They also claim distinction between the psīlós and the euzonoi (either eúzōnos (nominative) or euzṓnōi (dative) if we're going by the game's naming style https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/εὔζωνος ), quoting from the page "Light infantry might also be called euzonoi ("active", "light armored"; a name shared with modern Evzones), though these might be any troops lightly armed, such as hoplitai deployed without their shields, who would not rank as psiloi." My guess here is that there was some form of distinction between the `poor/lower social status skirmisher` (psiloi) and `higher status people who could afford better equipment but were not armed in the manner of hoplites/didn't operate in the phalanx` (euzonoi). The term seems to be distinct from peltast, so not sure what it could be referring to? Speaking of peltasts, shouldn't there be a "native" greek peltasts represented in game, instead of just a thracian peltast mercenary? Hasn't it been attested that greek city states implemented peltast style troops? Though methinks implementation wise, could probably be unlocked as a city phase unit, not sure if as a champion or as basic-advanced-elite troop?
  13. Fully clothed "Naked" fanatics lmao
  14. Nothing accurate apparently, since "the first appearance of the 'Northern Army' in historical records of the Han Dynasty was after the death of Emperor Hui" (https://www.lsdlyj.com.cn/CN/abstract/abstract46386.shtml), and Emperor Hui died in 188 BC, while Han Xin died around 8 years earlier, in 196 BC. Being generous, maybe because he won many victories for the Emperor, maintaining the "Mandate of Heaven" (many loses could be interpreted as illegitimacy). But I agree that this, and many other things you mentioned, could be improved. I could eventually do for Liu Bang and Wei Qing what I did here for Han Xin:
  15. It's not only the women, the gaul naked fanatics should be covered as well. It's the only right way.
  16. Bump. Getting this exact error in the same situation. metadata.json commands.txt
  17. I forgot to mention, but why is Wei Qing's bonus named "Mandate of Heaven" ? he isn't even an emperor
  18. There are three heroes of the Han in the game, namely: Liu Bang, the first Emperor Han Xin,his brilliant general Wei Qing, a later great cavalry general under Emperor Wu. only the Han Xin's design makes sense to me,although I'm interested to know what exactly this Northern and Southern Army bonus is referring historically to. Liu Bang was not a great individual fighter,or a tactical battlefield commander. His success came largely through his own charisma and the ability to recognise talent. His rule is also known for lower taxes and agricultural reforms so, the cavalry bonus makes no sense to me. If anything, his bonus should be a economy focused hero,or atleast something a bit more non-combatant. now here is the problem for which I made the entire post: WEI QING. he was LITERALLY KNOWN for his horsemanship and praised by his emperor for it. WHY DOES HE THEN RIDE A CHARIOT? he was also known for his marksmanship,so it would be fine to make him an archer cavalry hero, probably the first of its kind in the vanilla game. I also suggest adding the cavalry bonus to Wei Qing,as he was the Grand Master of the Horse- Grand General, General of the Chariots and Cavalry. additionally with these big changes,I believe his aura of reducing enemy cav attack should remain. the 30m will be less powerful when you realise he is an archer
  19. Here's the updated mod. I changed the positions of the three prop-points in the mesh tropaion_post.dae, all other files are untouched. Sure, would be nice if someone made a pull request. tropaion_0.28.2.zip
  20. I should just make a proof of concept for this lol
  21. It is an open source game using creative commons. Granted the whole topic of AI copyright is a huge gray area right now; so having AI content in the official game might potentially cause issues with license in the future (IE some companies already claim to own AI music you generate but allow non-commercial use, in the future some countries might take stricter approach to copyrighted training data). https://theconversation.com/ai-can-make-up-songs-now-but-who-owns-the-copyright-the-answer-is-complicated-229714
  22. The Suebians currently still have 1000 A.D long ships. I'd suggest giving them the same models as the Cimbri already have.
  23. And I have indeed many times contrasted the views of different experts and given my own thoughts, of course based on properly acquired knowledge, and even experience (as was with Sasanian archery, it's easy for me to notice details as a practitioner of the sport), so, as usual, what you say falls pathetically flat. But to plainly state what you should have learned in elementary school: if you don't read, you end up being an ignoramus that writes things like "ideaology" and lacking the mental equipment to properly think, producing just biased, uninformed, and irrelevant personal opinions. Advice: stop embarrassing yourself.
  24. I know nothing about that but only the result count. If it work and it respect the security rules and compatibility. no reason to think is bad.
  25. If you simply like to copy and paste authors' visions without questioning them, then yes, read as many books as you want. But reading isn't necessarily thinking. I didnt get the topic of comparison table with this topic. I'm not against have woman heroe, i'm against the list proposed. they are not significant
