I am surprised that Ptol can appear on the list. I also didn't expect Celtic civs to be here.

What do you mean? It's the top performance of each civ. Of course Ptol and Celts are listed. Or you expected them worse?

Ptol with the food trickle is excellent as teammate. Having same civs in a team is worse as the boni don't stack. So it could also be a bias that a ptol player gets the ptol team boni less frequent.

I see, I expected the Ptols to be at the bottom with Carth. This is because of their discounts on the prices of buildings. Carth is also not a boom civ and you spend less when going for mercs.

Also in your leaderboard for each civ, there is a huge spread of skills between the players controlling these civs. If chrstgtr or Stockfish decide to boom with Han and Carth, they might be a lot higher up the list. I am not sure if that will affect something. We are talking about from 1300 - top 1.

Actually map matters a lot. Density of woodline is a huge factor.

There are a lot of players with a low elo that can pull of a extreme good boom. Some have problem with army coordination or understanding how crucial 2v1 situations are. These players also gets left alone more often because a good rushing player wants to hold back a strong player from tactical perspective. I found some strong players surprising low in the total list.

There are lots of biases here but there's also some truth to it regarding the booming aspect.

it would be cool to somehow control for food availability. but the data isn't really available.

Could look at avg score for the game. For example, there appears to be one game where havran and I both had high scores. Since both of us had such high scores I imagine that boom is actually less impressive than our other booms on the list

There are also players who don't boom as well but do a good job of winning the first fight in p3, but this is more rare. I think the very fact that we put so much effort into this discussion shows how effective this time to reach 100 pop, or ecu score is as a predictor of a person's 0ad ability. Basically the game boils down to booming or preventing someone from booming, which leads us to the "booming=turtling" thread which highlights the gameplay disadvantages of the citizen soldier system. I'd wonder if this predictor (time to reach 100 pop) would be less effective if there was a male eco unit in the game.

Top Eco Scores of Used Resources at 12 Minutes

Here are the best games with the most resources spend at minute 12. I don't take the games eco score (of gathered resources) because unused resources are bad and this is better reflected in the eco score of used resources (ecu score)

Methodology

  • Excluded: Fortress maps (games starting with Barracks)
  • Conditions:
    • Cheats disabled
    • Starting resources: 300
    • Full replay available
    • Game duration >12 minutes
    • No quickstart used

Dataset

  • Total games evaluated: 763
  • Total player entries: 3,255
(Note: Same player in multiple games counts as separate entries)

Key Findings
The top scores typically come from games where players:

  • Produced only women for the first 3 minutes
  • Didn't face early punishment
  • Played as pocket position

Note: This only one viable strategy, that can be measured in a benchmark well.

What does "Score 920" mean? I was curious and checked the record replay out. Neither was it a really outstanding boom nor did Stockfish spend 92,000 resources at minute 12, he rather spend 30,000.
