Enrique
Early WIP. I will probably get rid of the surrounding walls (althought they're historically accurate) to make the building footprint smaller, now it is roughly the same footprint as the celtic cranog. I will keep the rocky base (but better looking) as the base that will be standing in the water, I don't know if the texture for the that rocky base could be biome-sensitive, if not I will make them generic-rock looking. Prodigal Son
I think just making them a little smaller would look nice and closer to the original. But it will look great without them as well, like a more detailed version of the age of mythology lighthouse:)
Thorfinn the Shallow Minded
Light suggestion here, but if there is a rock under the house, it would be nice to have a couple variations.
LordGood
I love the walls, but they feel a bit disjointed from the lighthouse atm imhothese models will be in relatively shallow water, so I'm not sure the rock is altogether necessaryIf you're going to remodel it (it seems like you are) Might I suggest fractal geometric divisions in the stone rather than a sculpted cloud-looking one? That's a little tough to explainthis video explains it much better than I can, its a very interesting watch, but I'll cut it to the fractal modelling bithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=v-VN6Kg6dJ4#t=
Enrique
That was just a placeholder. You can obtain much more cool looking rocks (and triangle count control) by hand sculpting than auto-generate them with an algorithm (plus it has less artistic value )What I would like to have for the rock base is to have biome-sensitive textures which I think it is not possible right now. Another thing I am wondering how to do it is the blending at the top of the base to use grass/dirt with the rock. I think it looks better without the surrounding walls:
Mythos_Ruler
Hmm, what about a block base? So it looks like your men are building it instead of summoning rocks from the deep.I love the look of the tower though. The door could be scaled to the unit better. It's okay that the tower itself isn't at 100% scale. if the footprint of the tower+block base isn't much bigger than this, then the footprint should end up around the same size as a dock, which is great. LordGood
I'm loving that main buildingShould the path lead right up to the lighthouse? I like the idea of having grass, but I'm not sure its altogether realistic on a rock at the edge of a saltwater sea. Maybe a platform around with a low rail instead of fortifying walls? Mythos_Ruler
Yeah, not digging the grass. I think a block/brick base would be best.
gudo
I would like to have for the rock base is to have biome-sensitive textures which I think it is not possible right now. Since the structure is on a rock out to sea, I think it might look better if there was just rock and sand and maybe some tiles instead of grass and such. LordGood
I think if the rock were a sandstone color it would look amazing on desert maps, but the biome sensitive thing is an issueI prefer the one on the stone brick foundation, if only for map versatility at the moment
Mythos_Ruler
1st one, the brick. Also, I don't think the ramp will need to be that long, considering that the shoreline will be right there. I don't think the lighthouse should stick too far into the water anyway (think: like a dock).
Enrique
Ok! I was following the cranog distances, but it's true it makes more sense to make it behave like a dock. I will make it shorter
sanderd17
The model looks great this far. For the base, IMO it should either be a rocky peninsula (so without a brick bridge), or a brick base (maybe including a brigde).

Nolanjoker
the walls....are more different. and indont know why without them the lighthouse dont have the same feeling
Enrique
We decided to get rid of the walls to make the footprint smaller. It doesn't need to be Alexandria's, just a generic lighthouse.
LordGood
We're not going for THE lighthouse of Alexandriathis is just a special building and should not give the feel of a Wonder type structure. A smaller, less fortified lighthouse works brilliantly with the footprint and in context with the other buildingsYeah, what Enrique said! Lion.Kanzen
Many variants, little variations , like lighthouse dock in AoM, can be cool. Nice work.
