  1. On my old Lenovo the game would go really slow with shadows enabled, without shadows it would run faster, but still slow. I think it was a 865G, i'm not sure though. On my newer laptop it runs much faster with shadows but tends to lag when many units share the screen. The funny thing is, on Linux water reflection works fine, but on windows it does not. And i have to disable shadows for the FOW to work. A blob of black below the units would make everything look more grounded for older GFX cards.
  2. Awesome work Paul! It'd be great to get bridges into the game and this is a great start!
  3. Yeah, AoE3 is like that too. I think its quite good and doesn't at all look bad.
  4. In AOE units when tasked to move somewhere attack only when the reach the spot, regardless of the enemies around it or if one of them attacks it. The Attack Move option would quite a handy one for two reasons, one it could act as the default move when the unit is in aggressive stance and two it would allows us to us different animations for the unit when he's gonna attack.
  5. Rite, blur i think is the best direction to take this in. But the one u showed above was pretty neat too, although i don' think it would fit our art style.
  6. I think somebody wrote an import script for blender somewhere...don't remember though... :/
  7. Sweet!!! Nicey nice! I like the new textures, although i think the shadows could be spread a bit more...make it softer too. But otherwise it g-r-8!
  8. Um, yes. I did try to export an animation once...but i don't know @#$% abt animating so i probably did something wrong. It wasn't my animation somebody made a lion animation and i was trying to export it...
  9. ahh, okay. No matter, ur delivering good stuff anyway
  10. Amazing!!! Really great work, Pureon! Good job! Can't wait to see more! Btw would you like to join the team, or would u prefer to work outside of it? Just curios
  11. Now this just struck me, it seems that killing more units and at the same time trying to keep yours alive will be challenging and will prevent player from doing what u just stated, i.e. ' The only way that could potentially go wrong is if the player intentionally sends just enough units to kill off most of their units/buildings and waits for them to rebuild. Of course, we can't stop the player from torturing the AI - we want them to have fun with it like that.'
  12. True, good points. Instead of giving XP we could just give points, say 4 points for playing against a faction on a new map (it'll be 3 for random map) and 2 or 1 for playing the same map multiple times, 10 for playing against a 'new' faction on a 'new' map. Would the amount of units killed upon time played work? say you've killed or destroyed 50 units and buildings in 5 mins, then you would get 10 mini points which if you can get to hundred you get a whole point. And what about longevity of units? or maybe longevity armies...no that wouldn't work.
  13. Players could get experience based on the diversity of their army and how well they use units to counter enemy units and also on how well they use their civ's special abilities. Then experience could be gained on the longevity of units. Flanking and other strategies could also add to that and how many attacks on their base they survived. One way how the faction unlocking would work could be like this. When a player creates a new profile, he gets to choose one faction and accompanying that faction would be a set of maps reflecting the faction's nationality. So in order to play as a different faction the player would have to first play against them on his map and then play against them on their map. For example, if your Persian and you want to play as the Celts then you would have to first play against them on Persian soil, in other words, on a Persian map and then on a Celtic map after which the Celtic civ would be made available to you. (i cut and paste this from what i wrote before so what i said could be redundant)
  14. Whats wrong with Devotio? i kinda like it
  15. Hello Freak! Please feel free to share ur ideas here on the forum, even if we don't use ur ideas it would be nice to think about
  16. hmm...i think the latest Blender (which is 2.55 beta) does not import '.dae' very well(or at all for that matter)...sometimes it crashes, sometimes nothing happens. But all the time, it doesn't work.
  17. your celt stuff is quite good too! mind showing some more of that? with the new alpha since the pines are MUCH better there.
  18. Exactly, a doc in the UN said that we could increase our food output as much as is demanded as long as they sell at reasonable prices. at the moment, only about 10%, i think, of agricultural land is used and we could improve the yield of that 10% quite considerably. I think what the problem is, that the people aren't really educated in this area. Many people in India give less importance to farming and prefer other jobs, like CA's and stuff. Thats all good i guess, but if we lose farmers then our food prices will soar and the people of India will not be able to afford it. So i think instead wasting time educating people to have smaller families(in Europe less and less babies are born each year) we should teach them about this, about the importance of farming etc. (i'm sorry if this sounds offensive, I in no way mean to e offensive) @ZeZar: Nice thinking
  19. Which magazine did u get it from?
  20. A really inspiring speech from the Lord of the Rings: Aragorn: Sons of Gondor! Of Rohan! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West! The other...well i don't think u can call it a speech but whatever, is from the Passion of the Christ, its just a line but i find it very moving: "Look Mother, I make all things new." - Said by our Lord, when he's all battered and bruised and can't stand properly and Mary looks at him and that questioning way, u know 'Why are u doing this!' kinda way...really touching.
  21. I have to disagree with you Jeru, the world has a lot of space. in fact we could fit the whole world in India and still have space left so yeah, i choose A. with the 7 billion hoplites i would re-create the world that was lost, erect great a beautiful structures and fill the world with awesome art so that everyone would be able to get out of the @#$% life we're currently living...or i could just use them to finish 0 AD
