I constantly lose track. Where should I start? I have basic programming skills, but none about the more modern languages (in my case it means everything younger than 30+ years ). Is JS easier than C++ (and would it help three project if I got involved with it)? Sorry for getting OT.

Keep torch function on minimap after game has ended
Ceres replied to Ceres's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
Yep, I agree. PS: There is one thing about mumble I like very much: TTS (text-to-speech). There is a possibility to feed the mumble client with text that it translates (very decently, IMO) to voice. Thus, you could get messages from 0 A.D. (e.g. queued units in CC are trained) directly to your ears. I'm not sure about the API, though, and thus should go in a separate thread. -
Should this also be clarified by a note in 0 A.D.? I.e. installed mods are sorted by installation date/time, sorted downwards and that the order could matter.

Batch Training (The Good, The Bad and The Ugly)
Ceres replied to Micfild's topic in Gameplay Discussion
Does this mean that you can explore something while auto-queuing is enabled? I never tested this and cannot do so right now, hence my question. -
"On top" means later on, right? I ask this (maybe dumb) question, because I wonder about the order of the mods as they appear in the mods window. Should the latest installed mod be shown on top or at the bottom there? @Stan`

I have no C++ knowledge, so I cannot provide any support in programming. But I am very willing to contribute to your mod and 0 A.D. in general, probably most by testing and reporting back? Please let me know what makes sense.

Keep torch function on minimap after game has ended

About in-game voice chat: A couple of months ago, this was briefly touched somewhere in the forum in connection with Mumble/Murmur. I set up a mumble server on a virtual machine on my Synology NAS, and we communicate via it without any issues. There's also a mumble app for Android, so you could even chat with your friends when you are not participating. Personally, I wonder if an in-game voice chat functionality is worth the effort, but I also agree that it could be more convenient than setting up a server (which many people cannot even do, either, because the lack the knowledge - which is not so hard to get, though - or because they don't have the appropriated hardware available). You could also use a public mumble server, but I feel uncomfortable about it (from the security perspective). Maybe you want to consider opening an extra thread for this or expand on the existing one? BTT, observer flares would be nice. Could observers who were players before jeep their colours but with a lighter hue? -
How can I help about the translation?

[Feature Request] send signal a point on the map to teammates
Ceres replied to andy5995's topic in General Discussion
How do you communicate via chat your position? Does the map always have the same orientation for all players? Then using something like "I'm at 3 o'clock between the 2 mountains". But the flare is really nice - and easier. Sometimes, I wish it would not disappear so fast. -
3 simple ideas i would love to see in games vs the AI

Speaking about heroes: Is it possible to keep a hero in the middle of an attack block? It sounds cowardly, admitted, but could be wise in a Regicide match. If it's realistic, I don't know, but history is full of bold and also coward leaders. If one wants to keep a hero on the middle, would this currently only be possible by micro management (quite cumbersome, if not impossible, I guess)? Could an extra formation be added for automatic placement? I'm speaking about attacking or defensive formations, not single file or similar, of course. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. -
Thanks a lot, das hilft! BTW, your sig is hilarious! And as usual - when I read the English sentence with a different pronunciation/emphasis in my head, I understand it well. I have added the missing German translations. Now we are back to 100% translated (as of today). Not sure, though, if these strings are also for e.g. the "Delenda Est" mod, or only for vanilla a25. PS: @wowgetoffyourcellphone pointed out that we shall not yet worry about translating his mod, as it is subject to change and some parts of it might flow into the standard game anyway (and will then be translated). These are my words, and I hope that I correctly reflect his post, which by the way makes perfect sense to me.

I have difficulties in understanding several "issues" (comments) for the German translation, especially since some comments are neither in English, nor in German, e.g. in Italian: https://www.transifex.com/wildfire-games/0ad/translate/#de/$/26723748?q=issue%3Aopen Or Portug./Brasilian: https://www.transifex.com/wildfire-games/0ad/translate/#de/$/26724768?q=issue%3Aopen Have they maybe been misplaced somehow? And here is another topic which I do not understand: https://www.transifex.com/wildfire-games/0ad/translate/#de/$/26724715?q=issue%3Aopen 6 years ago: 2 years ago: @Stan`Can you or somebody else please help me understanding this? Thank you!

Thank you! Some other things I observed/I have questions about: Would you like to consider the addition of a short explanation on the screen where the heroes are displayed? E.g. "Select your hero..." or something similar and with additional text (just brief) about what this means during the game, e.g.: "You can train this hero in your civic centre". Or should it be obvious enough to the players? Is it intended to be able to train a hero already from the very beginning (i.e. no need to come to phase II oder III first)? Furthermore, the match starts already before one has selected a hero. I.e., if I study the currently available information and am hesitant which one to select, the enemy (also team mates? I have not checked this) has already created buildings etc. Is this on purpose or are there plans to pause the game until all participants have found their hero? (which would be preferable from my point of view - similar to the "I am ready" button on the previous screen where you select the team, maps, etc.) PS: How I can help translate your mod? Is it in Transifex? Do you use shared strings with vanilla a25 plus your extra strings for new stuff, or do you have all your strings separate?
-
After a pause, I went again to Transifex and found this string, which meaning is unclear to me: Either this sentence lacks a verb or something, or I simply fail to understand as non-native English speaker. Thanks for help! The same string is used in two locations: gui/session/unit_actions.js:1476 gui/hotkeys/spec/ingame.jsonmapped_hotkeys.ingame.session.calltoarms.desc (hopefully, I got the locations right)

Keep torch function on minimap after game has ended
Ceres replied to Ceres's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
I referred to the game that ended for all players. Maybe I should rephrase it: Make the torch available after all human players have either left the game or resigned - or give the players the opportunity to agree upon the availability, e.g. by the hosting guy? Admittedly, I had more our family sessions in mind and should pay more attention to the wide audience and online matches. But maybe there's a good solution for it, too. PS: Or only team mates can use the torch after the game's end to show something to each other? Or am I missing a scenario where this could be abused? -
Keep torch function on minimap after game has ended
Ceres replied to Ceres's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
@Stan` @Imarok @wowgetoffyourcellphone How can the torch function be abused after a game has ended for all players? We only play at home, so cheating would remain in the family. -
Could the latter be a result of switching from fullscreen to windowed mode? When using Windows' screenshot tool while running 0 A.D. in fullscreen mode, it seemed (briefly) switching to windowed mode and back again. I have seen this also when Windows messages pop up (e.g. mouse battery low); therefore, I disable all messages during gameplay, but that does not help when using Windows screenshot tool (Alt + Shift + S). I should not use it anymore, I guess. Maybe for you it's not worth to bother more about it. Another quick question: What can we do with captured Gaia horses? They belong to the player and can even be garrisoned in a horse barn. Sorry in case I have overseen the obvious (or failed to read some hints about it). I definitely like this mod very much. Thanks a lot for it!

@wowgetoffyourcellphone Is it ok to report here bugs or questions about your mod? Here is one minor thing: I select a light (Han Chinese) warship and its description is shown. However, when I double click on it and all three (visible on the screen) are selected together, the description box is cleared/empty; only the number of 3 is shown. Alas, I have no screenshot, as I used Windows' function, which does not keep previous ones. Next time, I will be sure to use 0 A.D.'s built-in screenshot function. Here is one that shows another (minor) problem: After a game's end, I went to the stats and then left. The main screen is shown, but with the stats still in the background.

Hm, I'm still struggling with the installation of the re-release on 2 PCs. My guess is that the problems are due to me installing 0 A.D. for non-admin users. PS: As I suspected, the problem sits in front of my PC. I should not have messed with local 0 A.D. installations on the kids' PCs via scoop and then on top (as admin) the installation of the re-release. I major messed things up. Well, it should work soon after having cleaned up Augias' - sorry, my own - barn. PS2: Lo and behold - it now works on all 3 PCs - and is just great fun! Thanks to @wowgetoffyourcellphone and all others!
-
Ah, you had meant 0 A.D. re-release and I understood re-release of the mod. The re-release installer (Windows) wants to create a shortcut named "0 A.D. alpha 25 RC". Is the re-release still a Release Candidate? @Stan` Please ignore this, as on 3 PCs the installer proposed 3 different names: 0 A.D. alpha 0 A.D. alpha RC 0 A.D. alpha 25 RC I have no clue why, but probably, this is not relevant at all, as the users can change it anyway.

@Stan` No, 25848 - oops. Where is 25860?
-
@Stan` I DLed it manually from https://0ad.mod.io/delenda-est and opened the zip file with pyrogenesis.exe. After going to the mods settings in the game, I enabled it, saved the config, and restarted 0 A.D. On 2 PCs, it now works! However, not on the 3rd PC, and I don't know why.
-
@Stan` What is a re-release? How/where do I get it? From within the 0 A.D. mods screen, or by manually DLing and installing? Thanks!
