I prefer not to continue the discussion using the same style because it only diluted the whole topic. I wanted to give you a chance to change my opinion but for that I'd need my follow-up questions answered. If this should be a poll about the ban then you participated with your vote. I just expected more out of it. The fact itself that you don't know escrow services exist suggests that I was right. So there is no more need for me to quote a price for fixing your signature to say what you intended it to say. We've established that you aren't paying.

I wouldn't try to make it sound as if the rules are unclear or not enforced uniformly. Could you give any specific examples of people creating another account to bypass a ban? I don't know about any case when this was tolerated. Also any smurf accounts I've known of have eventually been deleted. There can be some exceptions for bot, developer or moderator accounts, but we aren't talking about those, are we? You don't seem to understand the concept of a discussion. There is a big difference between a discussion and telling people what to do. If you wanted to turn the latter into the former, you'd usually need to use a suggesting tone instead of an ordering one and then add some good reasoning. As a side note, please don't quote what I didn't write. I don't think that the absence of a single side of opinion is by itself a good reason to react in a specific way. I am not even sure that (and you don't say why) choosing that option should cause less harm than continuing this discussion. All I can take out of it is that you have already decided about your preferred outcome without trying to find any support for it. I think that a moderator really needs to be able to understand the lobby rules and apply them correctly when deciding about their actions. So far you've only shown an ability to jump to conclusions based on your emotions while also insulting others in the process.

Yeah, it's hard to disagree with the statements you use but the question is if they are really relevant to this particular case. Your questions might best be answered with more questions though: Is it important if there have been any similar cases before? Is the only valid reason for a permaban that there isn't another way to go? What if it's just one of the possible solutions that work well without costing too much time? So first of all, I don't decide about this. Also, as I've written, he's been given several opportunities. Why do you think it's wise for anyone to waste more time on this? I don't understand your reasoning. So because this ban has been going for a specific time, it suddenly is a personal fight? Who is fighting and what about? Maybe it's just that there are some rules that have to be followed for everyone to be happy. And then there are people that don't abide by these rules. What doesn't seem to be human about this situation? Why do you think you should tell others how they should be? Is it that you think know better what they should do or be?

It's cool, thanks for letting me know to offer my services to people who actually have money to spend. And from my experience, it's always ended like this when someone started by saying that money was no problem. There wasn't any problem because you never hear from such people after making an offer. Regarding your other thoughts, I imagine you getting caught in a stolen car and then be all surprised what the problem was, like "I thought it was only forbidden to steal the car, not drive it". You voluntarily enter the gray zone again every time you get a chance. I'd ask why the admins should even spend more of their time on you? You are a candidate for a permanent ban.

You do have control over this. Just put your Bitcoin where your mouth is and let me make a lobby for you! A small financial motivation could make the players of your choice join your lobby regularly. I'll even write a script to mute any hate speech about you as a bonus. Don't be one of those who only have a lot of money till it comes to spending some. All my offers are serious and I accept any kind of payment.

For $100,000, I offer to help explain to your Instagram followers why you are getting repeatedly banned. For $10,000, I offer to set up your own lobby server no one can ban you from. For $1,000, I offer to send you my replay files, so that you know what you are missing. For $100, I offer to play one 1-vs.-1 game with you to help you deal with your addiction (IP hosting fee subject to negotiation). Contact me for further details if interested.

I also wish I got some every time I log in.

It's not very hard to do. It's harder to do it in a way so that the map doesn't look unnatural.

Lag in 0 AD - A Few Questions
Boudica replied to 2fftr's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
The lag can be made bearable by avoiding some match setting options: High population limit. I remember times when the population cap of 150 was the norm for 4 vs. 4 games. Lower population games teach players how to cooperate better and they aren't any less fun. What isn't fun is when the game starts running at a third of its normal pace. Maps with a big amount of trees. Too many trees are hard for both the pathfinder algorithm and the renderer. When you select from Random maps, which are popular among advanced players, you can typically select a biome that is easier for the CPU. At least avoid the Tropical biome, or try going for Savanna and Desert options to be sure. Large map sizes. Again, I can remember times when we used Medium map size for eight player games. Yes, the strategy is a bit different, but it still isn't unfair to anyone and it isn't any less fun. You avoid situations when an ally dies too fast and you are unable to come help because of the huge distance. When you consider how much fun even a tiny map 4 vs. 4 game can be (those are called pizzas and the real pros love those), I don't see a reason to consider the smaller map size as limiting. Maps with many obstacles and impassable areas. Units can get stuck on the choke points and it's not generally easy for the pathfinder when there are too many units at one place. Thinking about it, there are quite a few known ways to reduce the lag, which makes me ask why we play with lag settings so often. I guess having a fast game isn't a real priority for quite a lot of hosts. It's similar to the typical lobby waiting time. People don't care that 20 minutes pass and the game hasn't yet started. I don't really know who introduced these norms. -
This feels exactly like the value you wanted to know if you're a pro. And like one that should probably stay hidden from you if you aren't. I mean, those numbers seem as high and arbitrary as they seem useful. Not sure what could be done about it. Anyway, great job!

Oh right, I've found the thread. Thanks for writing it down, I honestly think there isn't more than like 5 players who know what the numbers really mean. On a side note, I've been with this game for so long that I even remember when this OP armor system got introduced.
-
I don't know what thread this should have been in but thanks for making this table anyway. I've done these computations many times in my head. Also I doubt that there are many people that have an idea what the armor levels means. Even the basic explanation that an extra armor level blocks 10% of the damage could help. This system is much better than simple subtraction, which forces you to make a minimum damage of 1 (I think that's how it was in AoE). However, it's harder to present it clearly to the player.

I think that adding a simple dislike icon could prevent all the confusion regarding the confused or sad reactions. Sometimes you read a post so stupid that there isn't really even much to talk about. And it's not exactly making me sad; it's not preferable to let something your read on the Internet affect you happiness after all. I wouldn't say it makes me confused either. Could that be that I didn't understand that post? No, I don't think so. I see exactly what was being said and it's something I didn't like. Just let me express myself briefly and precisely.

Yes, please, make a Q&A livestream. I'm signing up as the troll.

I've noticed that @ValihrAnt cast and commented the first of the 50-pop game replays! You see what happens when you don't keep your replays hidden on your hard drive.

Two classic 4-vs.-4 games of today for reference, but these were GGs. classic-4v4.zip

I've been thinking we could try uploading more of the replays. There have been many good games that are about to be forgotten. Sometimes it's hard to decide why a game should be considered special to upload, but it results in uploading none. If it goes on like this, ValihrAnt might run out of good games to comment on YouTube, and he might switch to some mediocre games, which would be sad. I'm not trying to claim that these two games are somewhat very special, but we don't play with original game settings much anymore. These two games are very low-pop games, which has the advantage of both little lag and highlighting of the team coordination. The player named TDB might not be the best experienced, but he showed a great intention to coordinate. Cesar did pretty well too, which he explained by the lack of lag, preventing extra brain lag. It doesn't happen often to be satisfied with the team coordination and not go all face palm about it. The second game ends a bit earlier because a player dropped, but we concluded that it was over at that point. 50-pop-3v3.zip

Ratings Disputes and Offence Reporting (Discussion)
Boudica replied to gator303's topic in General Discussion
It won't. -
I might link the Road to Expert thread again, which might now be slightly outdated, but it still sums up many little things new players get wrong. On the other hand, learning to play a RTS is a lot like learning to play an instrument or drive a car. Someone can tell you what to do or not, but at the end of the day, you just really only need to practice for hours to get the intuitive feel of the timing. And even if you become a really good driver, you never know when a truck hits you and the driver runs away without giving you insurance details. I mean, sometimes the game crashes or someone leaves without resigning, but it's probably time to leave my metaphor now.

I know we should refrain from applying modern criteria to past housing standards, but to me it looks highly impractical having such a huge hole spreading all over the building.

How do we know that that object isn't actually just a verdigris-covered copper palm statue, which could logically be mined for metal? Let's just agree on that and there is no need to search for the ticket anymore.

Borg Expansion Pack Mod implementation in 0ad alpha 24 release.
Boudica replied to snelius's topic in Game Modification
I am for the the option to already include borg's changes in A24. Let's be realistic about when that release is going to take place – it won't be anytime soon. I also offer help with making / reviewing patches and testing. On a different note, we could probably get more people interested in the mod by making a tournament in it. When there was a Hyrule Conquest tournament, it was the first time I found out about that mod and there were suddenly many people giving it a try. I don't feel like organizing this, but I don't strongly refuse to if none of the experienced organizers is interested. Maybe @HMS-Surprise, @Unknown_Player or @Stockfish? Right, there is currently one tournament going on, but for now we could at least find some players that could possibly be interested. Let's make it the #4 goal of this thread to find out if there is interest. I would myself sign up for the Borg Expansion Pack tournament to help it gain more popularity.
