  1. Soldiers are Gatherers I won't be getting much into the heart of the anti-Citizen Soldier arguments because I already got traumatized by that. You might be working the assumption that you're losing resources because you're using ALL of your soldiers to fight, instead of leaving some to gather resources. Harassers actually hold the initiative because he forces his opponent's units to abandon their work and thereby lose resource-gathering time while he has some leftover gatherers buying that time at home. If playing against the AI, I can see why towers are effective. But from what I understand, building Towers early on sacrifices an amount of resources and is generally not advisable... especially because they are only static defenses. They're easily taken down by the aggressive players. Only the Mineral placement is what I can agree to... so do the devs. They're just placing them in there for now.
  2. New wood-chopping animations. Woohoo!
  3. Releasing an Unfinished Game because the devs had to. Delaying it further doesn't help either. Every consumer will rightfully feel ripped off. No matter how you look at it, failure was at the door.
  4. The animation looks fine for the first few minutes. It makes me feel that it's alive with the weather (clouds moving below the sun). But after those few minutes, I realized that this is what you usually see when you're in the middle of Sahara. Do they want their players to visualize moments before their heatstroke?
  5. March 29, eh? Good! If extended for two or three more days then it would become a joke of a release.
  6. We're at this point of the discussion again? Woohoo! Asides from the lack of staff to spearhead this thing, I think the biggest hurdle for the Gameplay Feature is this: the current playerbase. The current playerbase like the general gameplay as is. And they'll fight tooth and nail when that balance gets broken. Now for my continued hibernation because I have yet to get over the Holiday Hangover.
  7. And SuperTuxKart came close. Too bad OpenArena has been relegated to the shadows.
  8. The Tutorial actually debutted on Alpha 22, meaning that it's new. So it's expected to be broken at the moment. You have to follow the instructions precisely for you to advance to the next step. Getting ahead of the instructions might actually break the whole tutorial.
  9. Before you guys fully hijack the topic: There was a time when I get a little bit irritated when people mock 0 A.D. as a "Forever Alpha" game. But given the trend that Rome 2 Total War started, no-one should mock the game for being an Honest Alpha.
  10. I generally don't like bad omens, but the last month I checked the Empires Apart forums were at least active. Now it's filling up with un-moderated spam... even from last week. You have to wonder how they're gonna fix all this.
  11. There's an old SpringRTS thread that has one of the commenters saying, That comment referred to pyrogenesis around 2010. I don't know what they think of it now.
  12. I'm not sure about unsheathing weapons with the Testudo, but I don't think you can really attack with a formation that's specifically designed against missile fire. Their vulnerability against Shock Cavalry against the Parthians might be an evidence for that, and can't use the anti-Cav formation that Lion showed. Love the maturing development of the animations, BTW.
  13. Dang! I prefered the Mainz variation. That's the "variety" I'm looking for, though. Mainz, Fulham, and Pompeii were used roughly at the same time. But that's too arbitrary as players generally won't look up that close to see the difference anyway.
  14. Take an example stance from this video. It might actually depend on the stance to show how long the gladius should be.
  15. The gladius does look short. But given the condition (the gladius should be short enough to be hidden by the Shield when drawn back), it seems to be just right.
  16. Regarding the idle and ready-to-fight animations. I've been watching the Metatron, and he's been harping that the Iconic Imperial Shield often rested on the shoulder, or at least on the side; its full weight is not being carried by the hand.
  17. So far, the differences I've seen presented revolves around: 1. Proprietary vs. Open Source 2. Loyal Fanbase vs. A Community of the RTS Genre
  18. ZeroEmpires already did a review of 0 A.D. (albeit very old). Resonance22 and ZeroEmpires are quite close friends, so I believe he knows that 0 A.D. exists. He just doesn't want to bother with it unless you might be willing to pay him to do it. And besides, like others said, it's too early. There are already concerns that the big youtubers are losing their enthusiasm for this game. Resonance22 might have a similar effect. Edit: In a homophonal note, Resonant (not Resonance22) just did a lively Review. He presented the game in the way of how I looked at 0 A.D. when I first saw it. It's quite refreshing, actually. I just hope that his videos can give the game enough publicity.
  19. Majority of comments are praising it. No sarcasm.
  20. A little shout-out to the devs. I didn't really think that the svn builds can actually be playable.
  21. Can't download the file. It keeps saying that I don't have access to it.
  22. Everytime the devs are silent, I gauge the progress by how active the forums are. So far, things are looking up. How is the beta going?
  23. I don't disagree with the Cav/Pop thing, but this made me think about Ashoka The Great. He has 4 Horses, 2 Drivers, and him. Amounting to 7 pop. Now THAT'S royalty. XD
