@Samuraijp, it's not entirely clear what you're exactly trying to do. Are you using gcc or a different compiler (e.g. clang)? Which version? You can check with e.g. gcc --version Are you trying to (re)build the 0 A.D. svn development version (A24) or the latest stable (A23b)? From where did you get it? If the former, did you check you have all dependencies installed? You wrote you have a Ryzen processor. Did you try everything suggested at https://wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?/topic/28367-amd-ryzen-threadripper-user-read-before-posting/ ? -

If you view the patch, you see which lines in which files are inserted or deleted. Look up and open those files in a text editor, make the listed changes (just copy and paste), save the files, and rebuild the game. Afterwards you can undo your edits with: svn revert -R * -

No, D2745 is a proposal, it's not committed (yet). arcanist is a command line tool to interact with phabricator (the platform used for the development of 0 A.D.), allowing people to quickly upload, edit, or apply patches. Once properly set up, you can easily try out patches (e.g. D2745). If you don't intend to use arcanist in the future, I would recommend against installing it. arcanist is not the solution to the reported problem, D2745 is, and you don't really need arcanist, you can also apply patches manually. Or wait until the proposed fix is committed. -

That page was last updated seven years ago... There exists a script to quickly generate a table (source/tools/templatesanalyzer/unitTables.py). I just ran it and here's the current output: unit_summary_table.html The values are defined inside the individual xml files. It's important to realize they inherit from each other, see the parent in the second line. An example: template_unit.xml template_unit_champion.xml template_unit_champion_infantry.xml template_unit_champion_infantry_swordsman.xml units/merc_black_cloak.xml units/athen_black_cloak.xml -

Hello and welcome to the forums! Thanks for pointing this out! 0 A.D. is a work in progress, far from perfect, and containing numerous inaccurracies. Artists have to work from what they know, and if they don't have suitable source material, they have to invent something. A few questions, though: Where exactly in Persepolis is this image taken from? Is the displayed person really Persian? Is it really a woman? Achaemenid imperial iconography portraits dozens of nationalities, each with different clothing, therefore more context would be helpful. -
Translating things properly is not straightforward. Lack of context doesn't help either; transifex does display where a string is from, but I doubt translators would really look up the file in the development version (I think this is an example that shows transifex was fundamentally designed by programmers, not by translators). Furthermore, people tend to favour similar looking words (translating Latin humanitas with humanity is clearly wrong) and naively assume there is a one-to-one bijection between different languages, which is not really the case either; e.g. English has ‘culture’ and ‘civilization’, German has ‘Kultur’ and ‘Zivilisation’, and while they do overlap and go back to the same (Latin) origin, the precise meaning is different, and German scholarship often has ‘Kultur’ where English would have ‘civilization’. Individual style guides tailored for each language could certainly help, provided they're easily accessable and people are aware of their existence, otherwise drafting them is likely a waste of time.

Since then progress and changes have certainly been made, however, new proposals have been uploaded as well, therefore the review backlog on phabricator continues and won't disappear in the forseeable future. Temporary army camps, yes. Garrisons (usually mercenaries) of key cities and fortresses, yes. Military land grants and associated settlements (Latin colonia, Greek κρηρουχία klērouchia, from κλῆρος klēros ‘allotment, piece of land’) in return for military service in case of war, yes. Basically the system already existed under the Neo-Assyrian and Neo-Babylonian empires and was continued by the Achaemenids and Seleucids; I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true for Egypt. (It may have been even older, going back to the Amarna period and possibly even earlier in the Bronze Age, though I'm guessing here, I'm not an Assyriologist or Hittitologist.) However, barracks, no, not that I know of. Of course, I certainly don't know everything, so if someone knows something I don't, please prove me wrong. Barracks imply the existence of permanent standing armies, something which only gradually emerged during the 1st C BC (Romans); the first barracks I know of are those of the praetorian guard under Augustus and subsequent emperors.

To sum up, taverns existed in Gaul, though probably as a consequence of Roman influence? That would make sense. The word itself has a Latin root: M. de Vaan Etymological Dictionary of Latin and the other Italic Languages (Leiden 2008): P. G. W. Glare (ed.) Oxford Latin Dictionary (second edition: Oxford 2012, 2016): So do you think it's better to keep the tavern entity for maps, but exclude them from the default build list, and move the fanatics e.g. to the temple? But naked fanatics did exist in Gaul, and had religious associations? The image I have is biased by Norse berserkers of a millennium later. The same is largely true for Hellenistic Roman and Greek societies.

That's not for me to decide. I believe someone was translating parts of the wiki into German. However, I'm not sure how it is intended to be kept in sync. The real question is how likely translators active on transifex are to look at the relevant page(s) on trac. One way to check translations for consistency is using the search function on transifex. (I suspect not everyone knows this exists.) An example, the style guide recommends using a proper minus sign (− U+2212) rather than the hyphen-minus (-) for subtractions and negative values. Now let's see what the French translation does: https://www.transifex.com/wildfire-games/0ad/translate/#fr/$/162510615?q=text%3A− It uses hyphen-minuses everywhere, which is at least consistent, though a proper minus sign looks better in game. Now it doesn't really matter what individual translations do, but if someone feels like it, use a search filter to find all strings that have to be changed. For checking other languages, replace the #fr in the url with the appropiate language tag. For checking a different string (e.g. × or Cavalry), replace the part after the text%3A. (I'm not sure what the number means exactly.)

Hello and welcome! Very good points! In A23 and earlier stable releases strings are indeed inconsistent and often incorrect. This bothers me as well (I like consistency). In the past year or so progress has been made on improving them for the next alpha: a style guide for user-facing texts has been created: https://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/EnglishStyleGuide loading screen tips have been updated in D1377 / rP22137 aura descriptions have been standardized: team bonuses in D1720 / rP22149 and D2179 / rP22686 catafalque auras in D1807 / rP22687 structure auras in D1806 / rP22784 hero auras in D1808 / rP22905 many, though not all, technology tooltips have been standardized as well siege technologies in D2186 / rP22783 civilization bonuses in D2187 / rP22820 gather technologies in D2253 / rP22906 armour technologies in D2579 (not committed yet) the others are on my to do list structure tooltips are standardized in D2578 (it's accepted but not yet committed; let's hope it's not too outdated by now) bonus attack tooltips are standardized in D2610 (idem) information in the civilization overview (“History”) pages is being updated in D2720 Hopefully all tooltips will have been standardized when the next stable version (A24) is released. If you want to participate in the development of 0 A.D., create an account on Phabricator and comment on patches (or commits) you have an opinion on (very easy) or propose patches yourself (more work).

The translators.json file is updated only just before the next alpha is released. I don't know how, I suppose per script. There is only a "name" entry, though (other credits files also have a "nick"). By the way, "Nicolas Auvray" is listed under every single language, and: { "name": "Adrian Chaves" }, { "name": "Adri\u00e1n Chaves (Gallaecio)" }, { "name": "Adri\u00e1n Chaves Fern\u00e1ndez" }, seems to be three times the same person (\u00e1 = á). Asking whether you're a student or business executive or something? Same here.
