  1. ( Besides, still on that "Rep" issue, could we not have the person who got the biggest amount of rep-ups within the month and the person who got the biggest amount of rep-downs during the same period? Or to make it simpler, just the person who obtained the largest amount of rep-ups ... like a "good and friendly forumer" award ...
  2. ( Funny how different the cultures are ... those from Northern Europe and North America seem "cold" or "distant" with others ... while those from Southern countries or more "Latin" culture countries seem a lot warmer with people ... they are not as reserved as the Norse Had Jesus been from a Northern country, nobody would have loved one another
  3. ( Long time no see Uppy ... nice to see you back on the WFG forums! 1800 for me
  4. ( My first suggestion will be to suggest to make this Suggestion Thread monthly or bi-weekly ... and not weekly ... we bring along too few suggestinos to make it a weekly thread ... IMHO
  5. ( We are really the Elite on this forum Well done guys (and girls ... ) !!! We will make this world a better one ....
  6. ( Good ... how many did you get Tut? 4 or 5 Awards? You will miss them ....
  7. ( I would like to know how many rep changes there are every month ... that must be an enormous amount ... maybe 2 or 3 pages devoted to rep changes? And I guess some people would like to keep their intimacy because they got undeserved rep ... (like being the first person to wish Happy Birthday all the time on the forums )
  8. ( No problem, I am glad a suggestion of mine could be turned into an actual deed in the forum
  9. ( @ Red_08 ... is Texan, at last, recognized as a language on its own? Back on Topic, I am really surprised that they still learn French in Australia. I once read an article saying that French is now overtaken by Chinese or Japanese in Aussie schools ... A pity for me, but I can clearly understand why ...

    Gotm

( Guardian of the Month is, like Member of the Month, every .... Month Then, I realized how few Guardians there are, compared to Members ... There are 16 Guardians, if I counted correctly ... but over 500 members overall ... Don't you think that a Trimestrial Award for Guardians would be more appropriate than a Monthly Award ...? or every two months would fit, in my opinion ... It's not that I am bored of voting and reading their interviews, but I feel it is always the same people ... Once in a Blue Moon, there is a new GotM, like Red_08 this month, but that does not seem to be very common. In the last 6 months, King Tut and Code Optimistic got most of the Awards ... So, were you convinced? will it be every 2 months now? You could call it Guardian of the 60 Days ... Got60D Anyway, you got my view ... I will expect yours!
  11. ( Welcome here Nawen! hope you enjoy the place
  12. ( Hi Slimmo!!! hope you like the place
  13. ( I hug my wife Apart from that, I hug my relatives and parents when we meet ... we do like Italian mafia ... we kiss ont he cheeks Apart from that, I hug nobody else ... not my friends ... I just shake hands with men and a "bise" with women.
  14. ( Hey, nice pics! It seems you were in London when I was in London too ... August 11th Funny ... we could have met in there I_FORGOT_WHICH_BRIDGE_THIS_WAS.JPG ... that is Tower Bridge TYPICALCASTLE.JPG ... hey, that's not a castle, that is Westminster Abbey !!!!! And the Small Car is called a Smart ... Did you like the snails with garlic, butter and parsley by the way? was it difficult to remove? So, where exactly did you go in Europe? Did you stay for a long time?
  15. ( it is the contrary for me ... I understand German better than I speak ... Wöllen sie einen Hunt für Weinachten? (I don't think this is even correct!!!!) But I sometimes watch ZDF on cable and I quite understand what the whole thing is about ... but I couldn't repeat what they just said ...
  16. ( bleu - bleue rouge - rouge .. vert - verte gris - grise blanc - blanche noir - noire jaune - jaune orange - orange marron - marron ... (no feminine here ... e.g: la voiture marron ) rose - rose violet - violette These are the common ones ... then, you have a lot of other colours ... -bordeaux (burgundy red ... funny, the French use the colour of wine in Bordeaux while the English use the colour of wine in Burgundy ) - turquoise - argenté(-e) - écru (cream colour) - pourpre (purple) - grisâtre, bleuâtre, rougeâtre, etc ... (greyish, blueish, reddish, etc ...) - mauve (light purple) etc ...
  17. ( Passé simple is basically a tense used to describe past events ... just like passé composé ... actually, it is just simpler andnicer to the hear to use the passé composé ... (avons pu, avez mangé, etc ... instead of pûmes, mangeâtes, etc ...) I don't think there is a major difference in French. As what was said previously, passé simple is usually used in written language (but not all the time), whereas passé composé (because simpler in its form) is used in oral speech ... I feel (just a personal feeling, not a linguistic explanation) that events described with the passé simple seem more in the past than those described with passé composé ... but that's just me maybe Simple conjugation ... Then, the 3rd group verbs are a nightmare I shan't start describing them all in here
  18. ( I am fluent in French ... have been learning French for ...... 26 years now and still learning things everyday ... Here to help anybody who needs it ...
  19. ( not only for written text ... at least in here. Of course, I didn't say we use nous mangeâmes du poulet à midi et nous fîment une sieste, puis vous arrivâtes quelques minutes plus tard That is ridiculous ... but in some instances, we do use it ... as in il dit (meaning "he said" , not "he says" ...) It is rare indeed, but still use sometimes ...
  20. ( Le renard, la fourmi et sa cigarette La fourmi au manteau magnifique, à la cravate noire comme une (la, not "une ... there is only 1 night ...) nuit, fumait une grande cigarette. La terrible bête, à vrai dire, lui faisait tort : elle lui prendrait l’air. (I don't get this part ... do you mean it was taking fresh air? in this case it should be ... Elle lui prenait l'air ) Un (Le renard ... you have named it ... it is specified) renard, intelligent comme il est, proposait (not imperfect here ... better have the passé simple ... proposa) à la fourmi, (no coma needed here) de prendre une bouffée, mais la fourmi lui a dit (passé simlpe is more appropriate here ... lui dit ...) – «Je voudrais bien vous donner une bouffée, mais vous savez, ma cigarette, elle n’est pas assez grande pur (pOur ... ) vouz (-s at the end of vous ... but I guess that is a typo ) , je crains.» Le renard insistait (again, passé simple is better here ... it is a precise moment in the text ... hence, insista ) sur (wrong preposition ... à is better ) lui prendre une bouffée, mais la fourmi disait encore qu’il y a (the whole text is in the pas ... you can't have a present in the middle of it ... avait ) peut-être des matières, qui peuvent (same as previously ... past is needed ... imperfect : pouvaient ) donner (the verb is not very good here ... exposer is better) le renard au danger. Le renard prendrait (conditional is not the correct tense here ... passé simple is the best : prit ) une bouffée quand même, et tout à coup, il est tombé (I used the passé simple all the way, so here I have to use it too ... verb is : tomba ). Dans la cigarette de la fourmi, il y avait le crachat de la fourmi (we already know it is the ant's spit ... so son crachat is enough), que le renard n’avait pas supporté. There ... hope it is fine ... if you don't want to use the passé simple, use the passé composé instead ... should work just as fine Good luck!
  21. ( I thought you lost all the time ZZ Anyway, good luck ...
  22. ( And Mel Gibson never had a role that was as intense as was Bruce Willis's in Sixth Sense ... So, again ... Sin City (yet to come) and Sixth Sense are good enough reasons to vote for him
  23. ( Now, j'aime ce que l'on dit ... that is not correct alhtough it is now acknowledged as being correct French. That l' doesn't mean anything. It is just there to make the phrase sound better ... We should say ... ce qu'on dit ... Basically ce que is "WHAT" .... and ce dont is"WHAT ... + Preposition (about, for, etc ...)"
  24. ( Bruce Willis ... definitely ... Mel Gibson has changed a lot (especially after Passion of Christ ...) And Bruce Willis stars in Sin City too ... so that's another good reason to vote for him
