  1. ( He probably meant the Catholic World and the Pope is now in Rome, on his death bed. Pilgrims from all over the world can go to see him in Vatican City ... until Thrusday I think ...
  2. ( Well, I was quite close ... det er is nearly there is ... it is ... so similar then, more interestingly, havet sounds very much like haven in English, and refers directly to something that is linked to water and sea ... I just didn't think it would be as simple as "sea"
  3. ( Well, what the French call the "îles anglo-normandes" (the Channel Islands for the English) are a remnant from the Norman invasion ... Anyway, I went to one of them: Guernsey ... it is very pleasant, but it is quite small, and part from Victor Hugo's house, there is not much to see Mount St Michel is beautiful, but as Klaas said, it is very crowded ... Avranches is great, but for another reason. There is the museum of WW2 and it is really something to see. Of course, you need a lot of time in France to see all that!
  4. ( I thought somebody would post a thread about this, but nobody did. Although I know most of WFG is either atheist or protestant, I thought this was quite relevant since the Pope is quite an important person in the Christian World. Now, as we say in France: The Pope is dead, Let's rejoice for the new Pope!
  5. ( and yes, the Eiffel Tower (if you dare going to the very top floor) is über cool, if it is not too foggy or too poluted
  6. ( Yeh ... I live in Arendal. rett = red? havet= haven, port? det= the, there? det er = there is?
  7. ( I am going to France tomorrow ... ah, but hang on ... I am in France Where about are you going? Just Paris or will you discover the beauties of the South? I really hope you'll enjoy it. It's a good choice anyway
  8. ( I thought of using it for my wife's communications to the Philippines ... I amy set it up on my computer sometime ... I will wait for some feedback from you guys
  9. ( Name: David B. Location: France Married for: 3 years 1.) What is the most important aspect of marriage? probably trust. Well, there is love as well, but that seems too obvious ... one cannot (or should not) marry somebody who is not loved ... 2.) What is the single most important attribute in a partner that leads to a successful marriage? understanding/tolerance. When you get married, you have to get along with many things you were unfamiliar with ... your spouse may have a different religion, different beliefs, traditions, etc ... 3.) Do you typically argue? About what topics? not really ... often tease one another ... but no real arguing ... not yet 4.) Tipically how are conflicts settled? typically, small arguments are settled via corporal exchanges ... ... or apologies ... but my wife and I are strong characters (even stubborn sometimes), so we do not recognize our mistakes easily 5.) What advice would you give for young couples? Well, it is difficult to givbe advice because I think marriage is different for every couple ... If ever I have to give advice, here it is ... do not ask for divorce at the first difficulty. Things often settle down easily without judicial help I hope this fits you ... hope it helps too ... Curu.
  10. ( @ Klaas ... yes, I know a very good hotel ... but not in London ... 30km from London ... it is called "at my aunt's house" ... it is free for me ... No, seriously, as I always stay at my aunt's house (or at my cousin's house), I have no idea of any hotel in London ... but if I can give you a piece of advice, here it is: find an hotel far from London, but on the Underground line ... I don't think you can find an hotel in London for less than £ 60 ( € 100) ...
  11. ( Near London Bridge and London Bridge Station, I know a little sandwich shop held by Italians ... they are very popular for lunch time, so I advise you to go quite early ... it is a shame to go to McDonald's in London! try to find something else!!!!! there are little placesd in Chinatown too, which are quite cheap! have some imagination man!
  12. ( Here is my pick ... Morning take the Tube to Liverpool Street Station ... from there, head to Leadenhall Market and The Monument (monument in rememberance of the Great Fire). Then, walk to The Tower of London and Tower Bridge that is just close ... then, walk to London Bridge and cross it ... (you can take great pictures of Tower Bridge from there). Then, when you have crossed London Bridge, turn right to Southwark Cathedral ... walk by the River Bank past the Globe Theatre and in front of the New Tate Gallery. Then, when in front of the New Tate Gallery, cross the river on the Millenium Bridge (for pedestrians only) and go to Saint Paul's Cathedral ... that's about it for the morning Then, have a lunch in the little sandwich shops around Saint Paul's Cathedral and near the Temple ... then, after lunch, go to The Temple, you can visit the actual Temple with the Knights Templars (very popular at the moment) and you can see some nice places around ... from there, go to Temple Station to take the Tube to go to Westminster or simply walk to Westminster if you feel like it ... You will see Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament ... then, you can walk to St James's Park and Buckingham Palace ... walk around and walk to Trafalgar Square. In there, you can get into the National Gallery (it's free). From there, you can either walk or take the tube to Picadilly Circus. From Picadilly Circus, you walk to Leicester Square and walk up to Tottenham Court Road ... arrived at Tottenham Court Road, you can go to Chinatown or to the British Museum that is very close ... I did that with my wife in August last year ... it is quite a walk, but it is nice ... and at the end of the day, you are exhausted London is quite a small town (in surface) compared to Paris or New York, so you can do a lot of it (the historical centre) walking ... I hope you will follow my path ... enjoy
  13. ( Oh guys, I forgot to show you my new car .... my little car my other car:
  14. ( Hey, he bought a French car don't worry Matteo, I won't buy a Fiat next time I will stick to French or German. Peugeot 206, Renault Clio or Volkswagen Golf will be my pick
  15. ( hey, unfair, I want to play it and download it as well !!!!! j/k
  16. ( I usually open the fridge and have a glass of pineapple juice or Lemon Iced Tea ... then, I head to the computer room and kiss my wife who is generalyl chatting with school friends or checking her emails. Then, I open my schoolbag, I correct some papers and I prepare some classes for the following day and then, I relax by checking the WFG boards
  17. ( I am here ... but Gen Chat is quieter than it used to be ... Hall of Intell. is quite busy though
  18. ( ah yes, I didn't even see that there was 90 and 99 ... well, whatever, people understood
  19. ( clever but simple ... 2 digits a and b ab - ( a + b ) = 10a + b - a - b = 10a - a + b - b = 9a ... all answers are to be divided by 9 ... and all numbers that are "9-dividable" have the same symbol
  20. ( I learnt German when I was at school, but that was too long ago I can remember a few things though ... and I enjoy watching the news on German channels ... bliss morgen and when I went to Switzerland, I could understand quite a bit of what was said ...
  21. ( Mon-Fri: teach (11-year-olds to 18-year-olds ...) then, do some TLA stuff in the evening. Sat: spend time with my wife, go to exhibitions, TLA, correct papers, ... Sun: nothing ... and sometimes cook for a family lunch
