  1. Let me get this straight. Whos he? Were you playing against the AI or a human player? If that was the AI then you going to have to wait. THis is early stages of the game and AI is not finished at all. I strongly disagree in not allowing the Romans to build in enemy territory. That won't be historically true and it will not represent them as they should be. In the Romans time they certainly built in enemy territory and wasn't just just forts and walls, but entire cities. And to add to that, stopping a civ from building in an enemy zone is fantasy. That simply takes away RTS and the theme that''s trying to be adopted here. The strategies deployed by the AI is the only thing I'd agree that needs to change. Nothing more.
  2. On the contrary. I love 0 A.D. very much. The point you missed however, is that why can't the barracks in this game be of different design than copied from other RTS games? Regards to references, if you scroll up and read my previous post I did mention something about that
  3. That looks neat but still has that standard box design What I can do is gather up sources and references related to this and post what I find. The closest we'll ever get to an Iberian design and layout might come the Carthaginians or the Gauls because there is nothing about Iberian buildings anywhere that I'm aware of. One thing you and myself both agree on, is the organic, thatchy, earthy appeal about them. lol... What the hell am I looking at here??
  4. Yeah... All I'm saying is that the standard archtypical design of the barracks seems to be getting really boring. Certainly other buildings in 0 .A.D look totally different to previous RTS normal styles, but .. Its that barracks box that hasn't changed since wololos stole my catapults... It can still be a box.... But try and be more adventurous and imaginative....
  5. I know I am not the art leader, but this is just my interpretation First of all.... This is AoK architecture fro a standard barracks model. This one in particular is themed middle eastern. This new barracks modeled proposed here Is not much different .... And take into consideration I meant the building structure, not the bricks, painting and outer appearance. The old one was a little more unique For the walls on this one you could exchane the brick work if you wanted to from the new one to give this one a face brick sort of look, "more stoney" The thatch roof could have a couple shades darker for that nice thatchy goldness and the walls and paint slightly darker as well. For weapons, place spears on the walls inside the space in the middle and you can even use Roman swords on racks and against the walls too. (WHY ROMAN SWORDS?!?!!?) Because the gladius is an Iberian design Iberian buildings did have a lot of Celtic influence, but there is no way to know in this time and era what building looked like either, but I can safely bet they didn't look like AoK's Medieval version of a barracks LOL Lion I believe is Spanish, maybe he can shed some light on this subject......
  6. The original building he had was perfect he didn't have to change it... I agree with the scaling to flush away abit of that warp. And bush up the thatch roof a bit. Also make the building a few tones darker. Its way to light. And add more content consisting of weapons and amour to make it look more barraksy... If you fill the inner walls with it it definitely look a lot better This new building here doesn't have an authentic vibe to it. It seems to imitate AoK architecture... And as a theme representing the middle eastern regions the opposite end of the Mediterranean.
  7. A typical Viking warrior was actually called a "Berzerker" Berzerkers used any and every weapon available and often had a standard typical uniform with colours and helmets mildly being an exception. This is the most common and standard berzerker helmet which is distinctive to the Vikings and Norse Other varieties include: A Viking king unit (once regicide is implemented) would be a Jarl unit. If you going to be modding Vikings don't forget the infamous longboats... The perfect name for these ships will be "The Rova" I would tend to make the Vikings more nomadic in the sense they don't have CC or many types of buildings, but port/docs and things like that where you can train all of their units. Vikings don't build castles or forts, they build "longhouses" They do build wooden walls. An example of a typical Viking longhouse Probably an added bonus for Vikings is training Berzerkers and units from the ships. This will make them lethal to raid with. Another bonus feature is treating your ships as storage buildingsas well, so when raiding you can gather resources at an any given location you in without having to be attached to the land... Viking sea raiders lived totally off their ships. So it makes sense, is historically accurate and adds realism.
  8. I would just like to add a token here. Being a barracks its a castra a military building, try add lots and lots of weapons.... Put spears against the inner walls and sword racks. And...... Honestly dummy side of things is unrealistic. What I would put in place of that is armour stands. The armour being chainmail and leather vests with an iberian helmet piked on the top. These you can stack lots against the walls. From an artistic point of view, the weapons need to be iberian essentially all the "content" needs to be Iberian which will give it a nice compliment and be distinctive
  9. I'll have you know that Greek hoplites did take up the bows when they defended cities. All armies become ranged when they "man the walls". Not just Greeks. In my opinion.... Maybe to much animating for this, I certainly like and support the concept though.
  10. I know it, but I originally got the painting from a different link so I didn't know who it was from. There was another priest painting, it was actually a portrait. It depicted him holding a scroll
  11. deviantart.net This was one of the very first screen at the back of of AOE boxes ....

  13. Yeah and they looking good
  14. Yes but I don't see the bell anywhere
  15. Is there a new town bell in alpha 15 becuase I don't see one I don't build palisades in my own city... they look shabby for a town lol Palisades are castra
  16. I seriously have not looked if there's an animation for it. But I hope someone makes one.
  17. Like I mentioned in my previous post. Walls serve no purpose early on. Instead of wasting time in which the enemy attacks you, concentrate on building a home guard of soldiers. Walls should be the last thing on the list. They take time to build and costs to much early on in the game. If you going to build something, build towers and sentry posts and station a soldier in each sentry post which will make it attack enemy units. Woman should be at home. Don't send the ladies out in the wilderness they will get attacked by everything under the sun. Instead get the woman to farm and gather at home.
  18. That's probably one of the Civilization series. I don't know
