that is how looks like, merchant class.

t seems that the Sacred Bands were some sort of a religious quasi-esoteric order as well with an intense religious dedication and powerful patron gods like Anat, Melqart and Astarte of the Battle.

One interesting thing that I've noticed about many websites I've visited on the Canaanites, is that many of them seem to have this idea that Canaanite culture was destroyed by the Hebrews in a supposed invasion, that their descendants lived in the north and became known by the Greeks as Phoenicians. Then the Greeks Hellenized Phoenicia and all of the city-states basically became Hellenic Greek city-states and Canaanite culture disappeared. I have long felt that this wasn't the case, and Canaanite culture was (even when Hellenized) less 'Hellenic' than most people imagine it to be. Just to clarify, I'm not claiming that Canaan was never Hellenized, that Alexander's conquest of the land never happened, or that Hellenic culture has had no influence whatsoever over Canaanites and their traditional religion. There are numerous elements of Greek thought that I can see in later Iron Age religion from what we have discovered so far. But the point I'm trying to make is that the Canaanites didn't simply become Greeks, and their culture wasn't destroyed or abandoned.

  2. I smell an upgrade to turn army camps into civ centers (like the wall to gate upgrade, it would be for each camp independently). To balance, CostArmyCamp + CostUpgrade > CostCC + 100 (i.e. it would be significantly more expensive than a CC to begin with).

but can be more strategical, your defend a position, or a resource(metal or stone) with Army camp when you, succes and save the position, clean the whole area, you can convert it into CC.

London is an Example of that.

The status of Londinium is uncertain. It was not the capital of a civitas, though Ptolemy lists it as one of the cities of the Cantiaci. Starting as a small fort guarding the northern end of the new bridge across the River Thames, it grew to become an important port for trade between Roman Britain and the Roman provinces on the continent.

A mantlet was a large shield or portable shelter used for stopping arrows or spears.

A ram was often used to break down walls and doors of fortresses. To protect the men working the ram, they would be covered by a mantlet or sheild. This was also known as a 'tortoise'. A mantlet could be mounted on a wheeled carriage and protected one or several soldiers.

...After this it seemed good to Vespasian and his captains to raise a bank against the city, where the wall could be approached. For this end, therefore, he caused his whole army to fetch timber for the work, and to cut stone from the hills that were hard by. Also he caused to be set up mantlets, under cover of which the bank was made, they that built it being in nowise harmed by the stones and javelins and the like, which the Jews cast upon them from the wall. When the bank was finished Vespasian set his machines of war and catapults upon it, to the number of one hundred and sixty, which threw javelins and lighted brands and stones of a great weight, so that the Jews could not stand upon the wall, nor come to any place whither the engines could reach with their shooting. Also there was a great company of archers of Arabia and slingers that ceased not to attack the city. Nevertheless, the Jews, though they were hindered from going on to the walls, ceased not to sally from the gate; and they would drag away the shelter from them that worked, and wound the men, and they would set fire to the timber. But Vespasian, perceiving that they were able to do this, and because spaces had been left in the siege-works, commanded that these should be filled in; and when this had been done, the Jews ceased from attacking them. But when the bank had been made of equal height to the walls, Josephus,

There any records of use of this in our time frame? Just out of curiosity, i never saw any of these in any game...

yes, Roman uses in Sieges, whan they can protect Stationary Weapons or Siege builders, that create a Ramp of 10M in Judea

They are nice covers I used in my medieval games. Age of Empires 3 Iroquis uses some kind of shield unit.

very nice to have, may be in Second part.

    Other units, nice to have.

  4. Could you explain what that stationary wall is?

I think someone is already making an onager.

Any sources as to what these Town Watchmen would've looked like? I don't see why they would have clubs and not swords.

    The others are added.

ok, i was recording militia in AOK.

    that the roman way.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigiles

The Vigiles or more properly the Vigiles Urbani ("watchmen of the City") or Cohortes Vigilum ("cohorts of the watchmen") were thefirefighters and police of Ancient Rome.

Every cohort was equipped with standard firefighting equipment. The sipho or fire engine was pulled by horses and consisted of a large double action pump that was partially submerged in a reservoir of water.

    The greeks:

    Ancient Greece

In Ancient Greece, publicly owned slaves were used by magistrates as police. In Athens, a group of 300 Scythian slaves (the ῥαβδοῦχοι, "rod-bearers") was used to guard public meetings to keep order and for crowd control, and also assisted with dealing with criminals, handling prisoners, and making arrests. Other duties associated with modern policing, such as investigating crimes, were left to the citizens themselves.[9]

  5. I am suggesting to diversify the deals by packaging different ethnic groups of mercenaries for each kind of embassy. This way it wont feel as if you are specializing in one group of people, and yet still provide that option to specialize only in the embassy you chose.

yeah, this good thinking. Athenians and Spartans have a Building with other ethnic. Dacian/Thracian/Scytian
  6. I would restrict it to Carthage only, to make the faction stand out gameplaywise.

yes, that other option, and other factions access to mercenary, Capturing a gaia building in RM or Scenarios.

edit1: i remember one thing, in Gaia that can be capturable buildings, the Mercenary have a Limit to Train in AOE 3, in Total War, map Campaign the available Mercenaries, are limit to numbers per territory, when all are exhausted, you must wait a time to all numbers reload slowly

  7. I was thinking about that :). You start out with a 'general' consulate/embassy building. By choosing a faction, the building gets unique units and techs. Changing to another faction will cost time and resources. You can only have one building.

i agree with this, and, that is for factions that uses mrcenaries: Romans, Persian, Carthaginian, Athenians, Spartans

Iberian, Britons, Gaul and Mauryans dont uses that.

  8. Even then. looks kinda off..:/

that model is why i was talk each plate must be different. i do texture, but im not happy with them. please don't offence or think i want offence someone.

i like that texture in Mogul, the Model are Perfect, only some aesthethic changes for more acurracy suggested by Lilstewie.

    Even then. looks kinda off..:/

Still I think it's better to see people's reconstructions only from that period or around it. Not look at armor examples from 2000+ years later.

obviusly, that why, its important see the evolution the Mauryan to Mogul.
  9. I agree with Zoot. We should focus on the game first. Then those who want to go further can work on the DLCs. Besides, I am hoping the Bronze Age mod Egyptians would look different from the Ptolemies.

Im going to look up the navies and warships of the ptolemics. My library has lots of books of Egyptian seafaring for some odd reason.

I think the Bronze DLC can be done too long time after first 1.0.

why? because the game change so much, and the only basic things are that we can do for now.

  10. I noticed that many PPL like formations and I think it could turn out to be a good thing. But at the moment it is pretty much destroying my style of play. I can't order a vast amount of troops even to go to a point on the map without having them stupidly running far into enemy territory not to mention the time lost by the units stupidly tangling around instead of attacking. So I really want something like a "no formation" formation that gives the order to each selected unit individually at least.

in some games the units can go individually or in group (Battalions). if we implement that, we can need a comman to ungruop and other to grup, the adventaje is special skill in grup, think in a group spearman, kill cavalry, or Archers grup to fire arrows over a building. etc.

this change the game, and bring to other level, beyond AOK, more Like Total War, but own style, and building constructor.

  11. Here is the link to our official wordpress page. http://fallenempires....wordpress.com/

Also, @ Lion.Kanzen, When I have more time (maybe over the weekend) I can do one or two of the more important civ's complete design documents. Once they are done I'll share them with you on Google Drive and I can send a public link to each civ's thread with that civ's design document.

i want show the page when filled with basic info, im studing too, i was talk to you for email :).

  12. Carthaginian troops

    *Regular units

    - Libyan Spearman (Spearman)

    - Mauritanian Archer (Archer)

    - Numidian Cavalry (Cavalry Javelinist)

    *Champion units

    -Sacred Band (Pikeman)

-Sacred Band Cavalry (Cavalry Spearman) I don't know if this unit will remain in standart games

    -War Elephant (Elephant)

    Mercenaries

    *Celts

    -Gallic Mercenary (Swordman)

    -Gallic Mercenary Cavalry (Cavalry Swordman)

    *Italic

    -Itallian Allied Swordman (Swordman)

    -Italic Cavalry (Cavalry Spearman)

    *Iberians

    -Balearic Slinger (Slinger)

    -Iberian Heavy Cavalry (Cavalry Swordman)

They only lack rams and cavalry archers.

So my point, carthaginians are designed to be the civ with most kinds of units. My suggestion is to make the embassies limited to one faction. Why?

This way everytime that you play as Carthaginian you will have to specialise in one or another tactics, making an important choice that you will carry with all the game.

As everytime you face this civ you won't know what kind of units will the enemy deploy, but in a closer range of units.

Also every embassy could have a few special techs, like aoe3 native post.

I know that players don't like to be restricted about the options, but it's a opinion that I wanted to share.

i i agree with you, when you limited heroes you can limited special buildings, when avance to city phase can select what especial tecnologies and buildings , you want to select, a bad decision from player can bring to ruin him/her. like AOK with Minor gods selection.

this way persian can have other special building.

greek can have stoa or a other embassy kind building [balkan mecnaries] or tech building.

Gallic and Briton have a blacksmith or access other special building.

Roman use can usse Special building like Army camp or Mercenary train building, or Special building.

Macedonian with Siege Workshop or the Lybrerie or Theatron.

    that aplicable all faction

  13. Because the player shown in TotalNoobPL's screenshot is not an AI.

hmm,i didn't notice, so are two similar bugs?.

now i see, its similar to border bug, that can reach a tree in border. that was fixed, right?

the mine is a Ai bug. other similar to these is unitsin border stand by, ai must be generate a order in that cases, like EE never stop to build , or find resources., or ai must be resign.
