  1. Compromise: 1. The walls should be like the Stronghold series. 2. The buildings that are garrisoned have the same properties as before (harder to capture, shoot arrows, heal units, etc.) 3. Walls should have an ability to join to structures like barracks, and fortresses, maybe even civic centers like Stronghold 2.

  2. Thanks to new code added to the game, I am able to complete my blacksmith tech trees with "Forging" and "Metallurgy" techs. Forging Reduce the cost of Blacksmith techs by -25% and unlock all other blacksmith techs. Research time: 40s Metallurgy Reduce the research time of Blacksmith techs by -50% and unlock all other blacksmith techs. Research time: 20s So, neither cost resources, but you must choose one or the other in order to start researching scrumptious techs at the blacksmith.

  3. Hello! I'm Mah-Dry-Bread, I've been doing video game videos on YouTube for going on 7 years now and currently do it as a full time job. I also do some voice acting on the side. I wanted to offer to help out however I can. I've been a lifelong fan of RTS games and 0 A.D. really caught my interest after a fan told me about the game and I gave it a try. I went to the official YouTube page and saw that not much gets uploaded there, and the few bits of gameplay there seem to be a bit choppy, and seemed to be recorded by someone who wasn't the most comfortable in front of a live microphone. I wanted to offer my help. I'd be interested in doing some regular videos on the game, both for the official channel and for my own channel to help promote the game. I'm not asking for pay, I just want to do my part to help the game grow. Despite being in an alpha state, it's genuinely better than some RTS's that I've paid quite a bit for. I'd be more than happy to do tutorial videos, gameplay videos, live streams, and even voice acting if there is a need for any of that. My only rule is that if we are to do live streams, I can't do them on Twitch.tv. I'm a Hitbox.tv first party partner, so I'm not able to stream video games on other websites. That said, Hitbox.tv has a large international viewer base so it might actually help in spreading the game to people who aren't native English speakers more than it would on Twitch. If anyone involved is interested, just let me know! I tweeted at your official Twitter earlier and the person running it told me to come here to discuss this. Thanks for hearing me out everyone, and have a nice day!

  4. aoe 3 was less addicting because it was plain gameplay.. build a windmill and you have infinite food, villagers don't have to walk to take resources to your base... it was just the same ritual every game over and over again, the maps where good but did not change the strategy. it was a fun game to play, when i was round 8 years old i first got the game and i still play at right now 8 years later. i had many home city's to level 50+ and ect... now it is starting to feel lame.... just get infinite supply's and build as much units as you can.. thats all... i never played the story mode complety tho.... the disk was damaged from the start on and it keeps crashing the game after a fiew missions. now i got the game working on my new pc, but the story mode doesn't feel as nice as it was 8 years back. its a shame that the game developers try to eliminate this problems into aoe 4. they made a free to play mmo

  5. Hi everyone, I'm a 23 years old french student in his first year of informatic master degree. Starting this week, I will begin to work on the AI of the wonderfull game that is 0AD for a study project . My goal is to understand how the AI works and to try to improve it by adding new features and/or by correcting potential problems. I choose this game as a subject because I'm really interested to know how games are made and how to work on it. I'll be active on the "Game Development & Technical Discussion" side of the forum so see you there !

  6. Hello LittleDev, For your information the current AI developer is mimo, it was previously me (like 2 years ago) and before that a few other people. If you have questions, feel free to ask.

  7. Yeah I ended up peeking @ PETRA.Config.debug = 3 to see everything. (BTW is there a way to get access to PETRA inside of console for testing?) ... I think my toy approach is to have different "strategies" per Civ and react to different situations per opposite Civ strength/weaknesses, much akin to say what sports analytics does. The machine learning approach where the attack / defend / trading plans change over time sure is interesting. An unbeatable AI will not be fun to play against (as is evident by comments I have seen here) but the challenge of getting to watch it play out is rewarding. I only tried a hack so far where commands came from Neo4J, And using random/continent as a super simple starting base.

  8. Civilian and military spy and thief units. Civillian spy- female If i make a spy female unit and task her on the fields of my enemy, he will not notice as the woman will appear to him in his own team colour and also take up his population slot and work for him that is add food to his stocks. But her line of sight will be visible to me. This can be used by any enemy civilization as the unit is simple generic female. Also this will be available from village stage. And can be trained from civic centre. Millitary spy - Normal military spies (Baracks) These Millitary units will appear as his own units to the enemy based on team colour. They will follow all his orders to arrange themselves in formations and march upto a designated point as he wishes. But when he orders them to attack my own units by right click they will just march up to the target and do nothing. Also millitary spy units can be used by me to attack his own units but when i do so the unit will change it's colour to my team . Champion level military spies - (from fortress only) These spies will be similar to normal military spies except that they will have additional bonus against heroes and champion units. And they will be enemy civilization specific. That is one can not train just a generic champion spy. It has to be specific like spy vishkanya swordswoman against mauryans. All spy units will be invisible in neutral land. And spies in your territory can be revealed if you press a button with some cost in your cicic centre. All spy units have extra 50 metal cost.

  11. I kind of like Age of Mythology's GUI (screenshot below). Listing the techs, units and heroes without tool tips / icons doesn't make the choice clear. Just my 2 cents.

  12. As some of you may have noticed, we've created some new structure and technology icons over the past few Alpha releases. Below we'll give you some insight on how these icons come to life. The icons themselves are created at 128x128 pixels or larger, but must remain recognizable when scaled down to 40x40 pixels when used on the game's user interfaces. This need for scalability means the full size icons must have high contrast colours and sometimes include exaggerated shapes, otherwise they will fade and blur too much when scaled down. A few of you have asked how I create icons, so above is an image showing how they can develop from a concept sketch to the finished icon. The handcart technology icon started as a very simple 3D model created in Blender, with texturing applied to a render of the model using Photoshop (GIMP can easily achieve the same result). The Military Engineers icon (above right) started out as a quick rough sketch on a piece of paper which was then scanned and then textured over using Photoshop. Above are some of the new structure icons we've created over the past few months. Many of these are simply higher-definition versions of icons that have been in 0 A.D. for many years, while others are for new buildings or have been redesigned completely. Technology icons such as those above could eventually appear in Tech/Structure trees. Here's a Structure Tree design concept: Ideally this will evolve from a static design concept into an online interactive Structure Tree that updates itself whenever changes are made to 0 A.D. Last but not least, here are some animal and special object icons: I'm not very good at human faces, so some of you may recognize the couple in the above image from the 0 A.D. main menu illustration Another reason for showing these animal icons is because we still need around 40 or more icons for animals, and we need someone with good illustration skills to take on this task. If you'd like to comment on any of these, or have any questions for me, please do so below.

  13. Could you create an icon for Vision LOS increase and/or Population cap increase similar in style to the icons below?

  14. I really, really hate to criticize the pyramids because they are awesome and beautiful, but I have two questions about them: Were the gold caps really that proportionately big? I'm just asking, I have no clue if they were. By 500 B.C., were the pyramids still in such good shape, with the limestone and gold caps still intact? They look awesome, and as editor-only units it doesn't matter much if they're a bit anachronistic, but if a modder wanted to use them to create a map for the game, if possible it would be best to check to make sure depicting them in good condition is historically accurate. Again, I'm not trying to say the models aren't good, because all three rock.

  15. I only did the simple models and mapping, Michael the Modest did the textures.
