Create something similar for my mod using AI—it might be interesting: In this new combat mode, it's possible to play using area control or head-on battles like in *Total War*; for my futuristic mod, I intend to focus primarily on area control, though nothing stops me from removing the control points and reverting to classic *Total War*—if one can even call it that.4 points

Furthermore, the Old Irish carpat (ˈkaɾ.bəd̪) for chariot can only be derived from a Celtic language. A borrowing from Latin would have resulted in a completely different form and pronunciation.2 points

What I meant with that, is that short content can be recycled that way between those social networks, not between YouTube and Instagram. They should have different technical and creative formats, because target is completely different. Reels are practically the same as YT Shorts and TikToks, they have vertical resolution and work way better than posts in terms of reach and retention, which leads to account growth. TikTok and YT Shorts are a possibility that can be considered furtherly, with a well-based YT channel and Instagram account. I do not think that developers are targeting a smaller fan base if they are opening Instagram accounts of the game. It would be even better to have a news section in-game, in starting menu. I detected bigger issues, YT channel has not SEO neither. In a few words, videos are not optmized to be watched by a target public. They do not even have a mianiature, descriptions are too vague: I am gonna give you an example of an attractive game update video: Interesting title, advances the most important aspect of the update. Has a dedicated miniature and describes well what is the video about. This video currently has 2 views per hour, outperforms other videos in the channel by 3.6 times and was published a year ago, it is a success. On the other hand, the 0 A.D. one has a generic title, does not give details about the update nor generate interest. Has no description, with a generic miniature. Has 3 views per hour. The only good thing is that views are proportional to the previous video, which means it wil reach around the same amount of views in the same time. But players are missing it, it is the most important update to day and it looks like any other forgettable news. Interaction is precisely the point. Having a text conversation with devs on a Discord channel feels closer and more responsive than posting a forum topic and hoping someone read it one day. In my opinion, this is a critical issue for game popularity, and if devs want not to move to newer spaces, they will struggle to find donators to make the game better, as I have read it is not published on Steam because playerbase must be kept small due to multiplayer server capacities. So community size and managing is probably limiting game potential.2 points

No I don't think so. Pomponius Mela is the first to mention this implausible description but he was a notorious armchair geographer. Later on, several poets mentioned the scythed chariots but they were fabricating things. Thus, no scythed chariot. The reliable primary sources do not mention scythed chariots.1 point

@Atrik, I tested the latest changes you pushed in commit aec6e57f96 The elephant blob looks really good to me. There are still some small bouncing effects, but it seems to be improving in the right direction. As for movement around corners and through narrow paths, the behavior is still failing too often. I've included some videos of the tests I ran: Ele blob test Walking around corners and through narrow path: First test, no micro at all: In this second example, I helped them with some micro to get them to their destination. The results are better, but I still see it failing quite often. And paradoxically, the group without any micro performed better than the group I microed. As for moving through narrow paths, I got similar results to the previous test. The elephants get stuck at the entrance to the narrow path, and after a few attempts, some of them stop moving completely, permanently blocking the other elephants from getting through. It can also be seen that some of them get stuck on each other in an open area, significantly slowing down a group of them well before they reach the narrow area with the houses. In this second attempt, I helped them spread out a bit and enter through different spots, but the result was more or less the same. Something strange also happened with the group at the top. I assume this is a pathfinder issue. For some reason, the elephants at the back of the group decide that the best path is to go around the forest. As a result, one of them runs into another elephant that is heading in the right direction, and the "elephanting" begins ( aka "elefant traffic jam" ) In this last test, I send them back from the base. Look at what happens with the group at the top. One elephant tries to join the "path line", so to speak, and after a couple of bounces, it rebels and decides to stop moving altogether. As a good emperor, I ended up executing it. I'm a bit short on time, so I wrote this rather quickly and haven't been able to go into much more detail. I hope this is still useful for continuing to improve the PR.1 point

I think it hasn't been mentioned, but apparently British horses were smaller (yet sturdy), enhancing the utility of chariots when compared with just mounting them (https://www.shadow-of-the-wall.co.uk/bone_evidence.html). There's also the idea of that being ritualistic for elite warriors. On top of all this, Celtic vehicles seem advanced, since "the Roman Empire benefited from the contributions of Celtic technology (Schonfelder 2002), as the specialized Latin vocabulary tends to show. A rich terminology for land vehicles borrowed from Celtic-including henna, carpentum, carruca, carrus, cisium, covinus, currus, petoritum, pilentum, plaustrum, sarracum, and triga-is indicative of the growing functionality of Roman vehicles", from The Oxford Handbook of Engineering and Technology in the Classical World, by J. P. Oleson, and "the Latin word carpentum mentioned in Isidore – from which the English word "carpenter" descended – in fact was borrowed by the Romans from the Celtic word for a special type of cart. Perhaps because of the plentiful supplies of high-quality wood in Gaul, the Gallic woodworkers were particularly skilled in the production in wood of sophisticated vehicles and machinery such as force pumps and water mills", from Greek and Roman Technology, by A. N. Sherwood.1 point

Yeah a lot of promotional material is made by hand, and video is a bit too hard to come buy. And so far, mentioning no AI content has deterred all the volunteers. Since i don't have much time these days I haven't posted things in a while. For miniatures you need a phone number, and so far I have not been willing to use mine That's why it's always the same / from the video. Yeah so that won't happen really (I mean judging from the past ten years) Regarding donators, we're pretty fine because we're open source, (sure it could always be better, but the only costs are maintaining the server) We had a bridge at some point but due to GDPR we can't ensure that the data you share will be deleted on all platforms it's being shared on. Discord is pretty bad for that for instance. A few people also don't want their data shared on proprietary platforms. And it's hard to get consent uniformly.1 point

Ive seen one blog even arguing monks copied chariot battles from Homer. Although if it was foreign addition by monks, i think we'd see more chariot battles in medieval literature outside Ireland; I think chariots are possible at least for heroes and champions (potentially able to fight on foot too).1 point

Hello everyone! I’m back with a few more updates on World Rising. Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time improving the game’s flora, adjusting the textures and colors to make the vegetation look more consistent, natural, and realistic. The goal is to give the entire biome a stronger visual identity while still preserving variety between trees, plants, and bushes. There are still a few adjustments to make, but the overall result is already looking much more cohesive. I hope you like the changes! Let me know what you think, and keep following the development of World Rising.1 point

There is no consensus. Experts have been debating this subject for a long time without reaching a consensus. The problem is that it is difficult in any case to explain the presence of chariots in early medieval Irish myths if we assume that they did not exist during the Iron Age. Experts are sometimes disingenuous, going so far as to claim that the chariots never existed and that the myths were fabricated from scratch by Christians, drawing on Roman writings. Objectively speaking, that’s complete rubbish, but I don’t feel like debating the issue.1 point

@Atrik, bouncing is expected since you are using linear pushing, and that's how springs work. A simple "fix" (or at least to show where I think the problem comes from) I just tried is not to keep pushing when the object is already moving away. In these test videos, I split all elephants in two groups and make them move against each other, press abort, make them go through a narrow path to attack a structure, and when they are concentrating on top of where that was, press abort. Notice the lack of bouncing in the second video (the one with my change) after pressing abort: Recording 2026-09-30 104423.mp4 Recording 2026-09-30 104650.mp4 The code I added to UnitCollision.cpp before the last line shown: const CFixedVector2D relativeVelocity = a.velocity - b.velocity; const fixed separatingVelocity = relativeVelocity.Dot(offset); if (separatingVelocity >= fixed::Zero()) distanceFactor = entity_pos_t::Zero(); CFixedVector2D pushingDir = offset.Multiply(distanceFactor); The fix doesn't have to be exactly like this, it could be a function depending on the relative velocity vector for example (to better handle any unwanted increased overlapping), but I think that's a simple way to add non-linearity, besides being realistic: a push is a force applied in a certain time interval (impulse), and this process is usually more inefficient if during this time the object moves away, because what's pushing falls behind of what's pushed. This is related to mechanical impedance, and that's why springs react more when pushed at their resonance frequency, since that timing doesn't fall behind, nor gets past, the points of most efficient energy transfer. I didn't notice a big difference when they went through the narrow path, but the unit's rotation when pushed seems to be quite a problem. I'd make torque effects more inefficient by, quite obviously, either making them more spherical or changing their moment of inertia, if that's how things are implemented (I haven't checked that).1 point

Maybe based on bronze age weapons? But they are outdated for this period (and more like axes, or picks than medieval halberds) https://www.mooregroup.ie/2012/05/galway-bronze-age-halberd/ https://www.academia.edu/6095439/The_Early_Bronze_Age_Halberd_in_Ireland_Function_and_Context1 point

There is no iron age halberds. I don't know what @Duileoga meant by Alabardero. Battle chariots are attested through the finding of horse bits (snaffles), yoking fittings (such as terrets/rein-rings), iron tire fragments and bronze axle-caps. I think several items of those categories have been reliably found in Ireland.1 point

The earliest evidence of the Ogham is dated around the 4th century AD, it is the Silchester Ogham stone, it features an epitaph written in Primitive Irish dedicated to Tebicato maqi Memor ("Tebicatos, son of Memor"). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_Irish_law https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brehon Okay for me if we mentionned it is a legacy of an oral institution1 point

For Hibernians there is not that much material; althoug there are few things that could be used to set them apart. Ceremonial headdress (for heroes and maybe even champions. Originally had two horns, possibly sew to a leather/textile hat). https://arthistoryleavingcert.com/pre-christian-ireland-2/iron-age-la-tene-in-ireland/ http://www.visual-arts-cork.com/irish-crafts/petrie-crown.htm Cork horns (probably attached to a headdress) EB2 Irish units (avoid EB1 units some were very innaccurate) https://europabarbarorum.fandom.com/wiki/Bodina_(Goidelic_Skirmishers) https://europabarbarorum.fandom.com/wiki/Kladibiakoi_(Goidelic_Swordsmen) https://europabarbarorum.fandom.com/wiki/Eqoreda_(Goidelic_Cavalry)1 point

I totally agree with you! I've noticed the same thing; it's either rams or elephants, nothing else has the armor and destructive capability to get past the towers, and fortresses of the already too difficult ai. I think what we should do is put something that makes building champion-normal soldiers more rewarding, and also change the difficulty of the ai for the better. In ancient times when Macedonia wanted to conquer Persia; they didn't build 200 rams and launch them straight for the civic centers. I think the defense towers and fortresses make sending soldiers into enemy territory too hard, we should weaken the destructive capabilities of those obstacles.1 point

To carry it, yes. To use it without getting killed in the process, less of a guarantee. And some people did care about that last part. Tribal societies are ones where everyone is a warrior. Antiquity societies, quite less so. Citizen-soldiers are a characteristic of some, but not everyone is a citizen. Levies are a characteristic of some others, not sure what percentage of male adults are potential levies though (a high number, not necessarily 100%). It would be nice to have all these in the game, but it's a bit hard to balance.1 point

A desperate effort of a fanatic Muslim that wants you to think veil was normal in Persia before Islam (veil was used in some cases in Persia, Greece and other countries as a symbol of high status but never was a norm and a must wear). Since hijab is very unpopular (yet still forced on women) in Iran, people like him do anything to pretend hijab is normal and a part of the Persian culture. Do your research! See the British museum for yourself to see how Persian women looked like before Arabs invaded them and forced their religion and customs in them by sword.1 point

Hello Please look at this picture which had been taken from the Persepolis: See? There is a historical mistake in the game. The Persian women's clothing was this. Not the clothing that we can see in the game. I think their 3D models should be edited. Of course, it is just a suggestion to help improving the game!0 points
