  1. I think that's literally the first time I've ever been called a professional. Usually I just get snide comments about not having a "real job" or cynical people who just assume I just want publicity. I feel like I speak for a lot of smaller YouTubers like myself when I say that most of us just love video games and want to give back in some way, and that's why we try to find games that get less attention that deserve more.

  2. I could do that. It helps that I've played those other series so I know where people are coming from. I'm a huge Age of Empires fan, I played quite a bit of Empire Earth 2, and Rise of Nations is criminally underrated.

  3. Hello! I'm Mah-Dry-Bread, I've been doing video game videos on YouTube for going on 7 years now and currently do it as a full time job. I also do some voice acting on the side. I wanted to offer to help out however I can. I've been a lifelong fan of RTS games and 0 A.D. really caught my interest after a fan told me about the game and I gave it a try. I went to the official YouTube page and saw that not much gets uploaded there, and the few bits of gameplay there seem to be a bit choppy, and seemed to be recorded by someone who wasn't the most comfortable in front of a live microphone. I wanted to offer my help. I'd be interested in doing some regular videos on the game, both for the official channel and for my own channel to help promote the game. I'm not asking for pay, I just want to do my part to help the game grow. Despite being in an alpha state, it's genuinely better than some RTS's that I've paid quite a bit for. I'd be more than happy to do tutorial videos, gameplay videos, live streams, and even voice acting if there is a need for any of that. My only rule is that if we are to do live streams, I can't do them on Twitch.tv. I'm a Hitbox.tv first party partner, so I'm not able to stream video games on other websites. That said, Hitbox.tv has a large international viewer base so it might actually help in spreading the game to people who aren't native English speakers more than it would on Twitch. If anyone involved is interested, just let me know! I tweeted at your official Twitter earlier and the person running it told me to come here to discuss this. Thanks for hearing me out everyone, and have a nice day!

  5. Lately I've been spamming spartan 2nd-age demi-champs (short swords) to rush enemy before age 3. Build order: get to age 2 asap with 2 barracks preferably and healthy farming and mass produce this guys to chop wood and mine gold, no need to even phase 3, just a blacksmith to improve attack and armor. As soon as you reach 50 to a 100, send them to destroy people and buildings. Pretty unfair against most. Can be countered by enough slingers or seleucid horse archers.

  9. Welcome to the community! If you ever need some videos as "what you should never do in a 0AD match", I am your man I think @feneur pointed you in the right direction and those comparison videos would probably be appreciated by many RTS players. As for tutorials, I think the most useful and long-living videos would be related with economy management and building layouts. Anything else from this, as already advised in other posts, is subject to change, given the new features in each release and balancing attempts. Anyway, I am not a dev or the sort but It's nice news to see we are drawing attention of professionals like you. Hence again, welcome! PS: Had big problems with PC, expect me to play back soon as in A19

  10. Yeah it happened to me multiple times. I am on Windows 10 and the map was acropolis. It happens if you tab out for me period during the load screen, no matter when. Thanks and the Game is very enjoyable thus far!

  11. I've had the thought recently that it would be nice to have something going up on our Youtube channel in between releases, so I'm certainly liking the idea. It would be good to know what you are capable of, and how good you are at accepting constructive criticism etc, before making you any kind of "official Youtuber" for 0 A.D. though. A test tutorial would be nice, do you have a suggestion for a topic or would you like some suggestions?

  12. Which still ignores the fact that the DAE files aren't the actual source files and there have been issues with importing some of those for modification. Also someone wanting to modify some meshes should preferably do so by using the actual source files which should be in the art_source repo, so increasing the size of the public mod by a third without any actual benfit seems pointless and will stay pointless.

  13. Yes, the XML files aren't really needed, but are kept so modders can easily check what templates are used and possibly fix only a single one without requiring them to get the file from the repository. Also the XML files are not that huge, and in case we ever want to update the engine (possibly including updates to the caching format) we can get away with not updating the mod data (the engine would then notice that the cached files are not what it expects and just cache them anew). So we could remove the XML files from the packed release, but I'm not convinced if that would really make anything easier and will likely make one of the few things you can actually mod for a release harder.

  14. The good thing is that each alpha version has its own gameplay. Balancing is an hard task (one step forward, one step backward): the balance man does it well. Feel free to play svn games to test the recent changes. Moreover: there are not only hardcore mp players but also solo players and/or casual ones. the game is still in alpha, we are lucky to have a playable game and the balance will change with each added feature. Have fun !

  15. Correct. Cost efficiency is hard to determine solely by adding together all dps and armour. In the instance of capturing and melee attack, a 20-v-50 melee battle (numbers just as an example) may still be favorable for the 20 champions because the 50 will certainly not all be attacking at the same time (lack of space, especially if micro is not perfect). So the battle could very well be a 20v30 with the 30 side having basically a larger health pool. In any case, time & testing will tell. Champions now have a bigger role (due to higher capture values) that may make them more attractive than citizen soldiers in pre-A16, where it was basically all about citizen soldier spamming. I'm thinking of scaling building armor with phases, so that buildings are weaker in village phase, and phasing gives you armour bonuses so that citizen soldiers can destroy structures somewhat easily in village phase, but not by the time the opponent reaches city phase. Any opinions on this?

  16. Welcome, @borg- I think @scythetwirler's intention is to use soldiers mainly for capturing and siege for destroying. You probably noticed that siege and elephants have been buffed, so they are a lot more effective against buildings now. I agree that the champion nerf may be exaggerated a bit. Increasing the train time was necessary, but the additional increase in cost AND the decrease in armor can easily make them less cost efficient than citizen soldiers (certainly if they are ranked up). In my opinion it is good and realistic (swords would be blunt/useless soon if hit too often on a stone wall) to make buildings less vulnerable to soldiers, however I propose to add the possibility to burn (wooden) buildings. This way some units would be useful beyond capturing and you would have more strategic possibilities without breaking realism. If you still want to destroy structures easily with your soldiers, just edit the armor values of some building templates in binaries/data/mods/public/simulation/templates. Could be a small mod
