  1. Another quick update - I have some sketches ready! Will be posting them very soon. Thanks for the patience Omri

  2. Yeah, training troops from a stoa was a very weird decision and seems to have been made with no care to authenticity or gameplay for that matter. In DE I made the stoa a special starting structure for Greek civs. This structure is the source of their Greek Architecture bonus and once destroyed cannot be rebuilt. I am thinking of giving it some kind of area effect too, but I would rather keep things focused (objects in the game have specific purposes) since it is a free starting structure.

  3. Considering I am the one getting most of the reimbursement, I propose myself. I pledge to transmit the money that goes to other people as soon as I receive it.

  4. @Alexandermb, @LordGood, @stanislas69, would it be possible to give cavalry a (short) loop rein? Minor details such as this make the game more enjoyable, at least for some people. Closed reins are well attested throughout Eurasia (even for horse archers): Greece: Romans: Han China: Bactria: India: (Yes, I believe I've requested this before somewhere, I don't recall where exactly, hence me starting a new thread).

  5. Sadly there is currently no way for us to test and compare our two viewpoints.

  6. Yes, I agree. 0 A.D.'s heroes are highly unbalanced. Some have global auras which are much better than civilization and team bonuses combined, e.g. Viridomarus' +15% gather rates for all workers or Maximus' +2 armour levels for all humans and structures. Add to that they are cost-effective super soldiers with very high health and attack. It would be better if heroes were disabled in 0 A.D. As for battalions, cohorts, etc. I'd rather have the system used in Cossacks. Units are trained individually and can be commanded individually. However, they can also be grouped together in fixed-number formations, ranging from c. 20 to 200 units each. Each formation acts as one unit and gives fighting bonuses, however, it does not regenerate, and individual units in a formation can be killed; there is also a button to absorb nearby units into the formation to restore its numbers. So, basically, have formations in addition to individual units, not instead of.

  7. I would say including battalions in 0 A.D. with the econ as-is would already result in a net reduction in APM/management.

  8. True but BFME series have a very basic economy and rather simple (in the first one very simple) base building compared to 0 A.D. or AOE. That leaves you with plenty of time to manage it's relatively simple hero system, the battalion upgrades and the very simple combat tactics. On a point towards previous discussion, it's balance is pretty horrible, especially in the second game.

  9. Wikipedia says (not the best source, I know): A stoa, in ancient Greek architecture, is a covered walkway or portico, commonly for public use. [...] These buildings were open to the public; merchants could sell their goods, artists could display their artwork, and religious gatherings could take place. Stoas usually surrounded the marketplaces or agora of large cities and were used as a framing device. I really don't want this discussion to go off-topic (sorry for my part). Just want to suggest a model change, from stoa to a mercenary camp.

  10. Im playing your DE mod and wanted to let you know playing Spartans was amazing. I was wondering what it does in the mod, thanks for explaining. It should probably become available to get rebuilt at epoch IV. I think some structures can be recycled to function as upgrade of existing structures. In your mod the Stoa would be an upgrade of civic center. Instead building an seperate War Hall you would upgrade an Barracks with one. Athenian would able to upgrade one Civic Center with Council Chamber, replacing the round structure of the civic center's model.

  11. You didn't read my post carefully: Well, for the Greek translation ... We should not change the source strings.

  12. But then we should also write Old Persian names in Old Persian cuneiform and Carthaginian in the Phoenician alphabet. Although it's possible, I'm unconvinced that would be a good idea. (Different writing directions also tend to complicate things.)

  13. Just make icons in-line with the rest of the hero portraits in the game, bruh.

  14. Exactly. I was thinking of around 5-10 units like BFME, but they could be larger. That's true to a degree, although I found the "battalions" (5-10 units usually) to be very easy to manage in the BFME series.

  15. "may have forgotten"? Did you have an account already? What happened? You are trying to recreate your old account or you are trying to log in to it. If you already have an account, you must click "Log in to an existing account" and enter your login info. From the way you typed this line I would deduce that you have previously created an account then either reinstalled your system or are trying to access it from a different device. Instead of clicking the right button you try to log in with your credentials using the create account tab and are rebuffed due to it being already existent. If this is not the case and you have merely forgotten your password please say so in the following post.

  17. Apologies everyone, I am away on spring break right now. I consent to the reimbursement for this trip. I am glad we were able to represent 5 members! In general I am quite busy at University at the moment, so I think it would be best if someone else who is more active in the community and staff take my role on the Treasury Committee.

  19. Although Erik and I are in favor, I will still tag @MishFTW one more time. --- In the mean time, I am attaching a link to SPI's reimbursement request form: http://www.spi-inc.org/treasurer/SPI_reimbursement_request.pdf Unfortunately there is a USD 22 charge for outgoing wire transfers charged by SPI's international payment system, so it is best to minimize the number of transfers. I suggest we reimburse one participant for the FOSDEM expenses and that person would then transmit the money to the other participants with their respective shares.

  20. actually persian and seleucids have nice techs and auras available for their skirmish cavalry. Ptolemies have nice skirmishers because they train at rank 2 with mercenary advanced rank tech ( same for athene and carthage ) and less cost for all merceanries with the hero. ptolemies, seleucids and macedonians have mercenary skirmish cavalry too. Persia, sparta and athene have champion infantry skirmishers, britons have champion cavalry skirmishers.
