  2. @wowgetoffyourcellphone I'm coming there slowly, though I need to get some stuff validated by Lordgood first. (That was part of the conditions of me joining the team) My goal is to commit as much as possible before A23 without breaking anything

  9. This works with svn? Do I need to copy the svn's tortoise folder to a new one or... can I just paste it in the mod folder there without breaking the update function of tortoise? It took me 4 to 5 hours to download. If I have to do it again less then a week later I'll cry. Extracting public.zip and defragmenting the folder I put it in sped 0ad up quiet a bit for me at least (probably just the defragment really). You may want to defrag the cache files as well that could be a problem if you're slowing down a bit. If it's the first time loading a mod or map the cache is filled (I think the first time and not everytime). A lot of junk gets moved around. Computers just look for empty space on the hard drive and shoves it in it there. Check pyrogenesis.exe page fault number in task manager and see what it says. If it's 1 million (or somewhat relatively close to it), you might want to defrag the folders. Defraggler has a defrag folder option and the newer windows might by default IDK. The hard drive works fast but with a program that requires a lot of files, that could mean a tiny slowdown for everyone of them. I think the cache contains some what compressed version of it.

  10. If like gates, they can have multi-obstruction. I do this with the Roman Triumphal Arch, which allows units to walk beneath it.

  13. If WFG had any sense they would take your comment seriously. It's a no brainer to add the Kushites, Han, and maybe Thracians if they start to look promising. WFG has 2 nearly complete factions right now they could include to make a nice addition to new alpha releases. The Xiongnu, Hell, with the progress on them being so good, there's no reason to not include them as a "true" faction. What's the diff between a "mini" faction and a full faction anyway? I think the Xiongnu surpassed what I would consider a mini-faction long ago. A mini-faction to me would be like 3 or 4 buildings and 5 total units and would basically be map creeps to annoy and harass the players. Could lock or unlock making them playable in match setup, locked as default. Alpha 23: Kushite Africans. "Surprise 0 A.D. fans! You thought we were done adding factions? teeheehee" Alpha 24: Han Chinese Alpha 25: Thracians Alpha 26: Two nomadic factions, with fully-realized nomadic features: Scythians and Xiongnu Beta 1: You get the Nabataeans as a special prize! NOW IS WHEN YOU BALANCE, BECAUSE IT'S THE BETA.

  16. I haven't checked yet, but I believe that your GUI Elements are begging to be put in a Sidebar. (Please ignore the bottom part. It's just a rushed attempt to put everything on one side) And why not? Some games did it. Take Caesar 3 for example. All it needs is a way to handle all the buildable/trainable stuff when they can't fit on the entire screen. Just like how Red Alert 2 does it.

  19. @wowgetoffyourcellphone thank you so much for that video, it made me smile. My research is partially motivated by the same reasons Muhammed is talking about this history and organising tours. I'm happy to see young people interested, and that's one of the things I want to achieve here, with 0AD as well. We deserve to know our history... A history that has been hidden from us, and the world, for far too long. The lack of exposure to actual and credible African history completely distorts the narrative on Black history in general, as well as our own understanding of our ancestors. It's shameful, really...

  23. @JuKu96 It's not really single threaded. But some of the big stuff AI, Pathfinder and NetClient are running in the same thread. Well life caught him back and he now has other priorities than to work on the best RTS to date. @JuKu96 You could try starting off were Andy left the patch. See what he did analyse and then fix it and port it to code.wildfiregames.com. that would lift the task from elexis shoulders. As someone who has been here for 6 years trust me the hardest part is not contributing. It's starting to code. Once you breach that barrier things start to get easier. I didn't even know I could do big patches or C++ before then. About documentation. we are improving it slowly by enforcing jsdoc and doxygen.

  26. Yeah I've got an old laptop with a GMA 900, and I've tried to play 0 A.D. on it, and I've done development on 0 A.D. using it. It definitely isn't what I'd call "playable", it gets about 2fps max and has Intel's typical buggy drivers. On the other hand, I tested with an old GeForce4 on an Athlon XP 2000 desktop and that was more like 10 fps, but I think the CPU would struggle in a serious game. I replaced the GeForce4 with a GeForce 7600 GT card about 3 years ago, that has shader support and is very cheap these days, it's a huge improvement for like $20 - about the best AGP card you can get. It's annoying to have one less computer for playing/developing 0 A.D., but like you, I have a much better desktop. Based on comments here, it sounds like some people who have tried 0 A.D. with old computers also have at least one newer one available.

  27. If I'm not mistaken, the netbook I'm writing on now has Intel GMA 950 graphics... and even though I tried, 0 A.D. were absolutely, utterly unplayable on it, with something that felt like 1-2 FPS per second. So I'd wager that on any computer without shader support the game will not be very pleasant anyway, and the people using such hardware will be fewer and fewer. 0 A.D. part 1 probably still has a couple years to go anyway, and throwing out some legacy cruft will at the very least not slow development down.
