Civ: Germans (Cimbri, Suebians, Goths)
Genava55 replied to wowgetoffyourcellphone's topic in Delenda Est
I've already given my opinion and I understand perfectly well that there is confirmation bias at work, so I'm not going to be a pain in the neck and start a crusade over such a minor detail. I'll let others debate if this is an important topic for them. -
now that ive fully watched it I have this bold idea for Rome in historical: p4 represents the empire phase, p1 could be early republic…. Remove swordsmen from p1…they have a regular spearman, poor stone thrower who will have “serf” stats even though not a serf per se and the velites. P2 the spearman is replaced by the swordsman. And they gain access to an elite spearman (similar to Sparta skiri). They no longer have access to the regular spearman though.

Is this a unit you can create in the game? If so, does it crash in the game.
-
ha at the 5 minute mark it even says they are called Hastāti, derived from the roman word for spear But yes im sure there is more and it will go on. I guess it kinda comes down to what years of Romes existence is 0AD focusing on. Early republic their infantry were more like Greek Hoplites.
-
I'm just going off wiki, and it doesnt say pilum, it says spear You can have units switch between the two, like persian imortals.... and in historical A LOT of units. We did it with Rome Legionaries. I will definitely watch! These are the types of videos I like and find quite useful. Thanks!

What window manager do you use? What session type? What distro? And what version of sdl? I can only say works for me.

Almost every time you post a complaint it is because some unit/feature makes your Carth merc cav rush weak. Better players disagree. Not all cav requires metal. Others have given you examples on how fana can be countered but you just ignore it and repeat your same complaints. This doesn't really matter. Food is gathered more slowly and is also more vulnerable compared to metal. The only challenge with metal is that it sometimes runs out but that is less of a problem since the maps were redone to spam more metal. Games are rarely won because one side runs out of metal faster than the other, and when it does occur it is usually because the side running out of metal squandered their champs/mercs with a bad KD, which is the actual reason why they lost. Personally, I like that fana have different input costs because it allows for more diverse strategies. (@TheCJ: you aren't considering upgrades--metal and farms are both collected at the same rate without upgrades but food upgrades increase speed by 20% while metal upgrades increase speed by 25%. It nets out to where food is about 12% slower in p3 for most civs)

Since A27, the game cannot start properly in the non-window-mode anymore. The mouse isn't were it should be, same goes for the window. Both are shifted. The problem gets resolved if toggling full-screen several times, but even this mechanic is bugged and sometimes one needs to move the little window a bit before it works. OS: Linux 0ad: Compiled or AppImage

Place a roman champion cavalry unit on the map: Atlas crashes completely OS: Linux Happens both for self-compiled and Appimage

This would be sooo cool. And a good idea for differentiation.

With iq 130 how u compare food with metal? What if u have no extra metal? Can u still make champs? And how you can speak about amor while people can get fanatics in p2 and ruin the game. Aslan is a good example. People who spec his games know how he abuse fanatics and ruin all games. Also nothing can counter fanatics when people are in p2.

Romans VS Kushites on snowy Mainland. Beautiful map. RomansVSKush_H.zip

Also metal is gathered just as quickly as food. 120f 100w takes 240s+133s=373s to gather. 80f 60w 80m takes 160s+80s+160s=400s to gather. So the ratio is pretty much that you can get the resources for 13 normal champ infantry in the time you can get the resources for 14 fanatics. 14 fanatics get decimated by 13 normal champs.
-
Exactly what you say about me is wrong. Im just want a balanced game. As i said already nothing can counter mass fanatics. Its not only about cavs. Moreover what u mentioned about fanatics which able to kill a large group of cavs, which require too much metal, is a other bug of the game. And also, why fanatics doesnt require metal like other champs? letting players easily make a mass of champs and abusing them? Making a good eco for mass fanatics is simple. Dont tell me not all able to do that.

Not a spear, a pilum. They threw pila at the enemy, before engaging in melee combat. Unfortunately, 0 A. D. still has no way for units to use multiple attacks, so the Hastatus is melee only. If we get to have units with multiple attacks, the plan is for Advanced and Elite Hastati to throw pila first, then engage in melee. https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/wiki/Civ_Romans_Republican

Why are Roman CS swordsmen called Hastātus
wowgetoffyourcellphone replied to Emacz's topic in General Discussion
This answers it for you (the whole video is good) -
Emacz started following Why are Roman CS swordsmen called Hastātus
-
When I google Hastātus Wiki says: "armed with a spear" Peditatus seems to me foot soldier but not what type of weapon. At the very least shouldn't the spearman and swordsman specific name be switched?

ty and for future reference I had to run the following: git config lfs.url git@gitea.wildfiregames.com:manowar/0ad.git where you would need to change `manowar` to your own username for your own fork.

Food is the slowest resource to collect, easiest to interrupt, hardest to defend, and most difficult to relocate. If you regularly have too much food it’s because your economy is mismanaged. I agree with @Player of 0AD here. Fana don’t do particularly well in inf fights. But they shine in games where the enemy goes cav. If i know anything about Reza, he’s complaining because a handful of fana were able to easily defeat his much larger cav army. This is at least what happened last time I went fana against him.

I was playing around with adding some new tips to the codebase on my own branch forked from the main repo. My push contains some images and when I try to push I get prompted for a username and password i.e. Username for 'https://gitea.wildfiregames.com': manowar Password for 'https://manowar@gitea.wildfiregames.com': Username for 'https://gitea.wildfiregames.com': manowar Password for 'https://manowar@gitea.wildfiregames.com': I have tried with my gitea username and email address, with my gitea password and with a gitea token. Am I missing something ? Can I use my SSH key to auth for the LFS support ?
