Micket
http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/1993 Discussion thread for the (male) gorilla model. Just an hour into modeling yet so its still very early.
Micket
Hands and feet still need some work, other than that, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Gorillas where surprisingly simple to model.
Mythos_Ruler
Nice! Maybe male and female versions?
Micket
I think I'm done with the male gorilla now (definitely male and female version!)Edit: Just a crude texture paint to see how it looks.gorilla_male.zip Edited June 21, 2013 by Micket
Ludo38
Waow, very good work Micket! I didn't expct gorillas in 0 A.D. but why not! Can't wait to see how it would like with some more work on the texture. The base is good but still missing harmony between the various parts of the body. Unarmed
Gorillas? What you need that for!? (joking)It is awesome. And what if scenarios and maps (or just for fun) are nice. Let's conqueror central Africa! That got me thinking, it would be cool if there were non-playable tribes that are stuck in the village phase for scenarios. If somebody would like to be making that and if there's not more important stuff.I demand you make pygmy people now! (of course a joke, but I would like it)I don't think the texture looks crude. I like the gorilla.
Micket
No i didn't even fetch any good references and didn't color match it. It was a 3 minute hack-job. I'm sure Enrique will do it properly, gorillas shouldn't be hard.

Leyto
Hi there! So I take part in this texturing, here is my WIP for now: You can see on the left the texture in its HD version and a 3d preview of it. The 3 screenshots on the right are the final size texture. Now I have to blend the different images and balance the color and darkness of it!
Stan`
Nice work ! Try to limit the seam effect if you can to make it more uniform
wowgetoffyourcellphone
I think final texture size can be 256x256 like many soldier textures are now. A lot of the old texture are 128x128.
Leyto
Little update with seams removed. After that, level and color adjust (and maybe add detail under his hands and feet)
wowgetoffyourcellphone
This guy go good for Gambia River skirmish. Their range could have ben much large in antiquity.
Loki1950
Their range may have been greater but it's habitat that counts mainly deep forest and mountain forests they are fairly shy beings that like the cover that habitat provides. Enjoy the Choice
Lion.Kanzen
@Loki1950Â that's true, many primates were a myth until their discovery.
AtlasMapper
@Leyto: That's a beautiful job, really. What other texturing are you working on, what would be the next ones ?
Leyto
Thanks! I think I'll continue on Micket's models https://wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?/topic/17409-auroch/&do=findComment&comment=302248 (the thread where I textured auroch)
AtlasMapper
@Leyto: Oh fine, these models are interesting. I hope you'll eventually work on the textures of animals on european biomes too. I say that because most of the available factions are from Europe, and Mediterranean area. But it is also an "interested" comment, as I am creating Mediterranean islands maps. More goats and rabbits than gorillas and cobras there . Anyway, it is just a personal comment. The most important thing is that you should have some fun while doing your textures. Keep going with good work!
Leyto
@AtlasMapper Yes, of course I'll work on european species with pleasure too In fact I checked the trac task list, and most of what is needed is for Asia and Africa at this moment... AtlasMapper
@Leyto: Really ? I'm surprised Asian and African species are in the main task list, because of the existing factions. And we don't even have cows for now ! But if asian and african species are in the list, there should be a reason. Anyway, I'm glad you're following the track list! Leyto
By the way, I just discovered this thread https://wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?/topic/15562-maps-and-biome-guide/ and it mentions a variety of animals to make, if it is always up to date. Enrique
Hey, @Leyto awesome work on the texturing!! I have to ask where the source file for the texture came from, for license purposes... (we want to avoid legal issues with the stuff we add to the game)
Leyto
Thanks Enrique, here are the images used for the texture    http://www.ad.nl/ad/nl/5596/Planet/article/detail/3257387/2012/05/18/Yvonne-ondergaat-nog-steeds-operaties-na-aanval-Bokito.dhtml    http://mlbpark.donga.com/mlbpark/b.php?&b=bullpen&id=646494&m=search&query=%ED%98%B8%EB%9E%91%EC%9D%B4    http://www.animalpicturesociety.com/pics-of-gorillas-a853/1-154c12/    https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Bwih2J9h71k/maxresdefault.jpg    http://img01.deviantart.net/45cf/i/2013/191/1/7/silverback_gorilla_by_deadnotsleeping5876-d6cxida.jpg    http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/ya-kwanza-a-silverback-gorilla-male-walks-in-its-enclosure-news-photo/142405689    http://www.shutterstock.com/fr/pic-159747512/stock-photo-silver-back-gorilla-walking-on-fallen-tree-in-black-and-white.html
Enrique
Leyto, much to our regret, I have to inform you that those are copyrighted image sources that can't be used in textures in 0AD. We only can use images that are licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0 or less restrictive licenses. I know it's tricky, but it's the only way if we want to ship the game without getting into legal issues. wikimedia commons is a good source to search for textures with this kind of licenses. Also sites like texturemate.com  episcura.com and any site that you can safely know the license under the image is published to be able to know if it can be used or not. Also if you use any CC-BY-SA 3.0 images, please let us know to credit the author
sanderd17
Note that Google also has a switch to search for "images labeled for reuse with modification", which gives mostly CC-BY-SA licensed images (though you need to check the original page to see the exact license, and get the correct credits). See https://www.google.be/search?tbm=isch&q=gorilla&tbs=imgo:1&gws_rd=cr&ei=w4k9V-jTBoOZaKrnqGA#q=gorilla&tbs=imgo:1,sur:fmc&tbm=isch&imgrc=_ as example.
