  1. I dunno, I rarely get pissed off by friends, that's one of those reasons why they are friends But if they want to make me angry it's probably by saying me what I should do, I like to be my own boss.
  2. Well I can't complain about our school system though (public school under government control). We saw tons of stuff, we were taught to have a critic mind and to not copy someone's opinion like that, we had real-life experiences with many things, not just theory but also practice, etc. The system is standardized here but not fanatically, teachers and students have a lot of freedom and numbers isn't the only thing that counts. But still, I didn't like it, but that's just me I suppose, I can't say many negative things about the system though. Compared to our neighbour countries our high school level is very high, so must be the system imo. Same for universities; everyone can go to university regardless of the money you have (poor people can enter for free), you don't need to do what they call in Germany an abitur or an exam to enter university (except for 2 or 3 courses like medical science and civil engineer), you only need to have finished your highschool. But the level is very high, 40% passes the first year, and according to a recent research our most prominent universities, Leuven and Ghent, are respectively on number 9 and 10 of the best universities in the world. So if you want to study abroad come here, it's cheap, good, and next year most courses will be taught in English
  3. I never liked to go to school, especially because you had to study a lot of things you didn't choose for because our lessons were pretty broad. Maybe also because I made the wrong choice once, maths that is. Actually I would have preferred languages much more, but once I realized that it was too late to change. Also had to get up at 6am and I was back home around 5-6pm. Well now I have to get up a lot later, but that's even too early after I lived through that hell (I'm a night person, not a morning person)
  4. Isn't really right Well it surprises me that the author now states he didn't write something he thinks truely happened. He does state it's his favourite legend but it's written as if it really happened, and the title sais 'history of ancient brittain' which is quite misleading. Doesn't mean it wasn't a good article though, but if you write a history article you have to be as clear as possible, especially with your title. So I asume the article on that other website is by the same author? Oh and the author of the website where this article is found clearly states that he's taking this legend for truth, he's a creationist. Stupid website btw (sorry if this sounds harsh), written by someone who's quite frustrated that today's historical practice is far superior compared to the pre-1950 period.
  5. I would wait with that until we get another host, you know Whizhost isn't so great and shuts down accounts faster than its shadow
  6. There is nothing to defend since what the author wrote is just a legend, not historical facts. It's like saying that the Romans decended from Aeneas and his fellow survivers, which is a legend too. Amateur historians simply like taking legends as true stories because they are much more exiting and more open to the broad public. But a legend remains a legend, not a historical fact. In this case what the author wrote is far from the truth. Brittons have no relationship with Troy, nor Noah. They are just mesolithic people or from the early copper or bronze age, just like with most people living in Europe back then. They must have had a relation with the eastern civilisations, but not much more than exchanging some goods. People even hint that a Greek architect helped designing Stonehenge which is utter nonsense as well, it's a style very common to mesolithic and early bronze age societies in the west, it has nothing to do with the east. So, whatever the author may say, this article should either be removed or it should be clearly stated this is just a legend. I believe we don't want to make stupid mistakes like ES did with the history section of AoK (eg. Celts built the megalithic monuments) I'll write one in his place unless kor wants to
  7. First making and eating dinner with my gf, then watching fireworks in our town and after that to the party in the youth club (free champagne!)
  8. thanks lol check my member title if you're writing my name
  9. Thanks everyone No presents yet, we're always a bit late here, so probably in a few days

  11. Probably a few days this and the following week, don't know when exactly though.
  12. A, B and C. Well I used to do C very moderatly, not anymore. It's not bad or anything but you better don't touch it. I've seen enough people doing it too much, it's not worth it you know. Don't have any problems with alcohol, but that's just the mentality around here you know. We grow up with it, and most people just consider it like something normal.
  13. Things like this make me very angry. I agree with alex though, it can also happen if you don't drive drunk, but driving drunk makes it more likely to happen. Anyway, there are no reasons to drive drunk, and there is an endless list of reasons not to drive drunk, end of discussion.
  14. Should be forbidden, it's just too dangerous. Kid's don't know any better, so making/keeping it illegal is the least that could be done. Good thing, and probably the best thing, is warning them how dangerous it is, and maybe show some pictures of what could actually happen if something goes wrong. But most doing it are kids, and not every kid will listen to this.
  15. Edit: sorry I got it wrong Yep it's a bug, should get you to the post page with the text you entered already and not actually post the thing.
  16. There's nothing to fix because that's the way it should work. If fast reply would include the options reply has this means a lot more stuff to load (all the javascript and graphics) each time you view a topic. If you click fast reply the form you see is already loaded, but javascript can hide/unhide it.
  17. Well, let's say there are WMDs. I'm not sure he'll admit it, after all that's the only power he still has, making look the US bad in front of the world. But that's just a speculation, time will tell
  18. Well it's good they found them, many Iraqies will feel a lot safer now. But, as Bush said, this won't stop the attacks though, seems that he wasn't the brain behind them after all
  19. BB Code Some kind of markup code designers could use to format text. Incloding bold, italic, font size, font (if possible), center, color, strike, etc. Extra stuff like background color and border size/color would also be cool, that way for example the chat effect could be used to make a pop up text in a box.
  20. Well I agree with your teacher. Your language is indeed improving since the first day you came here. Good idea you used a flash forward at the beginning of your story, it makes it more exciting. Yep, I didn't really like the shooting either though. One contructive comment I'll give regarding contents is that the actions of the character should be justified if you want him to be a hero. Now it's rather absurd, I don't know a good person who just shoots somebody because he entered his house. Depends on how you want it though, if you like action stories it's ok, but personally I think such violence isn't really needed. However, if you like to play with violence in stories take a look at Quentin Tarantino's movies. They are extremely violent but with a reason which isn't that easy to find. Some literature I would recommend you is Popcorn by Ben Elton. Really great book, I'm sure your teacher will like it (Ben Elton is a respected author and scenario writer). Anyway, good job
  21. None, it's illegal here (because many people got hurt already) Well many people go buy it in The Netherlands, but I'm not sure if this is still possible, seeing what happened at Enschedee a few years ago (building full of fireworks exploded and a big part of the town was turned into a moon landscape).
