We now try to release roughly at the same date each year. We don't wait till all issues with that milestone get implemented. We would push them back.

Almost certainly there will be no new civ in the next release.

theres  campaign work being implemented so that could be content drop almost as good as a civ.

  2. That is interesting and kinda concerning. AI does have some benefits things like this make it a lot worse. At some point people need to stop and see if it is really producing more good than harm, when you see cases like this it kinda makes it seem that the harms exceed the potential benefits. (That and the constant bots that spam our forums as well)

I don't blame the devs they're just trying to figure out how to cope with the flood of issues and bug reports that they have to deal with while still getting the word they are supposed to finish.

  3. I was thinking about this at work. I don't like the idea of walls being useless because of a siege engine and that you'd have to garrison men inside the walll all the time, but i think the idea has promise.

I was wondering if we could make walls big enough that units could move them.  Defenders can get through the walls through wall towers that are upgraded to be entrance stairs. You can garrison mele units on the wall in order to shoot down at attackers.  Then when seige  towers attack they just drop units on the wall and then you can have a fight on the wall with the melee units fighting to get into the town.

You'd kinda also seriously buff the walls so they couldn't just be destroyed by soldiers, but it may be a good idea.

Would a random map generator be possible? Or a mod maker?

I think there is already a random map generator, it's the random maps category

It doesn't need to be a huge campaign.

Three well-designed scenarios could be enough to demonstrate what 0 A.D. can do.

But there is an even bigger opportunity:

I think there is already a macedonian campaign someone made floating out there. I know @Vantha has been getting all the coding stuff in place for a new tutorial that would be exactly this except I think it'll have four scenarios.

I think all the features you requested @lilypoppy are in the works, but if you wanted to get started on your own campaign it wouldn't be too difficult to start, write out your story, start making the maps. When the rest of the features get added there may be some light scripting to do but then it'll be ready!

I believe there's a consensus to not include AI generated content in vanilla; that's different from what OP did. (I couldn't sensibly summarize what OP did here, though.)

I think OP used AI to write a job posting to hire a free intern to use Cursor (an AI coding agent) to fix bugs. DId we just talk about generative AI for art, writing, and music or did we talk about it for coding too?

I have a question, is it possible, when creating an account to check if the lobby name registered by the user corresponds to an actual lobby name (if not already done) and to prevent the user from creating one if it does not exists. Alternatively, maybe ask to enter a lobby password which could be broadcasted in the lobby with a command. Although that might be too much trouble for actual users.. ?

that would work except not everyone has lobby accounts. I was on the forum for years before I got a lobby account (and even then I used it like once)

  7. Have you tested the performance of having for teams? Does it work? If I recall there's an issue on the gittea where they were hesitant to expand the amount of players because of performance.

I can animate and do a bit of modeling, but I'm a novice (most of my models are made by chopping and screwing other models together).

If you want you can try to finish some of the 70% done new animals

    here are a few

    https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/issues/1983

    https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/issues/1993

    https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/issues/2003

there's most of the info in the forum post that the issue links to.

If you’ll make a list of the non engine related ones, I’ll maybe take a look and see if there’s anything I could work on.

I'll see what there is. If you can animate / model there are a LOT of animal models that are 90% done and then can be added to the game.

I mean that the reason for the closure is in a single summary, for example: "this was closed because nobody was interested".

Basically a list of tasks closed due to lack of interest. Maybe a wiki page.

Oh, that's a good idea. I'll put the reason I close the issue in the issue itself so we have it. I may also compile some of the bigger/ cooler issues here for people if they want to pick up

  11. Looking through old issues there are a lot that are either old and out of date patches, design suggestions that need to be discussed and nobody has for 10 years, or units / creatures that were worked on in the past and haven't been touched for a while.

If nobody objects I propose we make a project for orphaned issues with patches and existing work, that I can put them all in, so people can find them (and maybe eventually pick up). I can also close them if we want.

Also I may start closing older issues that are just gameplay and balance suggestions that nobody seems to want to discuss.

Again if i close something important, let me know and i'll unclose it !

  12. It looks amazing!

I think what would be great is if a feature like this had some kind of knock down effect for foot soldiers. That way an elephant could run into units, know them over and deal them damage. The ones who aren't dead will then be able to get back up like the trample effect in Battle For Middle Earth.
