BfME & Context-Sensitive Interfaces
Dnas replied to Acumen's topic in Tutorials, references and art help
Maybe have the context sensitivity as an option so that players used to the tradition RTS UI won't have headaches and players who want something new will be able to have the new UI. I like the idea of implementing it into 0AD. -
Yeah, I remember having to edit the UV's slightly to get the screens to work. But just the inside bits of some blades. Other than that, it matches the gif map that was included.

http://wildfiregames.com/~art/david/02-weapons/weapons.jpg Picture. The two with grips are my (guesses at) kopis. So, umm... Paal, what else is needed to make them more accurate to kopis?
-
Sorry for the lack of progress (again, it was the stupid school project.). but now, I should be able to get back to my regular pace because the project is done. I did do some work on the kopis. I've gotten leather grips on both of them (to make them more different from the falcatas). I don't know what kind of decorations to put on them, so I made some ones of my own. I'll post screens ASAP.

We do them at a much higher size first, usually 512x512 IIRC, then shrink them down and sharpen them.
-
I'll have to ask Jason if we can post any samples (probably can't), but we make sure it's good quality.
-
We have plenty of land-based maps planned.

For the first release (500BC to 1BC), it is entirely visual. We can't stick in random innovations that would sound nice. We have to make sure the computers can handle it. Also, w don't want to get people excited about a feature and have them find out it can't make it into the final game. For the second release (1AD to 500AD), we will have a stable foundation from which we can experiment with new ideas and things. OT: cool, it's the first time I've answered a question about the game.

Sort of. When I'm not supposed to sleep, I have an urge to sleep. When I'm about to go to sleep, I have an urge not to sleep. In other words, I wake up tired from sleeping.

I always save in xcf anyway. Fuzzy brushes: THE best brushes for shadows you can find anywhere. Used with the airbrush tool. It's how I do every single one of my shadows. And if you can't find one of the right size or fuzziness, run the script to generate the perfect one. (Or wait for GIMP 2.2 to go stable and be able to change the brushes attributes dynamically.) And I make custom brushes all the time.

If by PSP you mean Paint Shop Pro, I've tried the demo. Didn't like it. When you've been working in GIMP so long you get used to its GUI and can't produce the same results in a different one. At least, not right away. Besides, that costs money and GIMP is in GNU. Also, the demo of PSP didn't have all the brushes I'm used to. (Long live the fuzzy brushes!) If you mean Photoshop, isn't that something like $700? Also, I expect it's GUI to be similar to Paint Shop Pro's.

Hmm... the Task Manager reminder thing doens't seem to work. Whatever. Okay, I've managed to squeeze some time in to get work on these. @Paal: Okay, what does a kopi look like? I can easily replace one of the existing falcatas with another texture. At the moment each of the bronze and iron falcatas has a duplicate anyway. Oh. and something that's not too great... I noticed that GIMP's support for psd isn't perfect. While I have been able to open psds with no problem, it seems GIMP won't save psds right. I tried reopening one of my old psds with GIMP and it seems that it can't even read the layer modes it saves. They are all set to "Normal". And when I opened it with Quicktime, (Apparently psd can be opened by it.) I get a garbled mess of purple and green lines. Anyway, I'll continue to upload the psd file in case Photoshop reads them fine, but just don't be surprised if they happen to be corrupted.

It seems the My Controls thing got misaligned. Strange. It wasn't like that a while ago. Anyway, picture attached to explain better.

What is your favorite standing position?
Dnas replied to Sam's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
Umm.... on both feet? Maybe we need to make an entire forum for all these "What is your favorite ... position?" topics. -
Most people probably already know this, but just in case... I thought this was pretty cool. Google can do math. 1 plus 1 (You can use + as well, but the Google tag doens't support it) four plus nine 6 miles in inches e^(i*pi)+1 the square root of four times the cube root of fifty seven sine of 56 degrees times four feet in miles half a cup in teaspoons half a pascal in millimeters of mercury And it knows lots of constants. the speed of light times the gravitational constant divided by avogadro's number times the answer to life, the universe, and everything divided by (the mass of a proton times the mass of an electron) Can't do calculus though. the derivative of x squared So... what do you think. It is a pretty useless feature because if you need this stuff you probably have a calculator next to you anyway, but it's fun. I wonder what else it can do.

In front of a computer, like I do everything else.

I'm half-Chinese (well, taiwanese) and half-Russian.
-
Congratulations! Wish I could still speak Chinese and Russian.... forgot them both ages ago.

Shading: Well, that's how it was in your version. Alright. I'll change it. Ornamentation: Ok. References: You know, that would have been so helpful had I had them earlier. Just a little warning beforehand. I might not get so much time to do these this week. Being the procrastinator I am, I kind of am in a rush to get this one school project done....

I keep forgetting to post here. Did falcata. Screenshot of what I've done. (Falcata, greek and, celtic swords) http://wildfiregames.com/~art/david/02-wea.../weaponswip.png Too lazy to put it on model because I'll have to mess with earlier-mentioned pixelization of GMAX. So... do you guys think those three are good enough or do they need more work?

If there will be support for changing a unit's type (switching from, say villager to archer, like with AOM's villager to ulfsark) and birth animations, it should be possible. I made a takeoff system in AOM using just that and it works quite well.
-
Sorry for the lack of progress. I have a really annoying school project to do. I managed to remove the blood stains. Left one stain per sword type. Will work on falcatas next.
-
They were sharp, but the gallery didn't want to upload 1024x728 pictures, so they were shrunk which caused some anti-aliasing.
-
IIRC, there was something in the TLA forums a while back (i.e. before the upgrade) that mentioned something about being able to drag the mouse after clicking to rotate a foundation when you place it. And, TLA and 0AD will be using the same engine, so something non-game-specific like that is in one, it's likely to be in the other.

320GB total?!?!!? Yikes! That's almost 10 times the amount of space I have in my computers. Is building a computer hard? Or expensive? (Not an insane one like you have, a normal one) Because I would love to finally get a computer that doesn't have it's entire hard drive filled up with a Windows partition an doesn't have a crappy graphics card. I'm sick of the extremely cheap computers we buy where most of the money is for an OS I don't need anyway.
