  1. Huh maybe I don`t know defensive buildins may get a nerf but they are still kinda cheap and has their is no limit to them you aren't punished for placing them wherever. Another thing nobody uses the tier 2 towers , buts thats a different subject.
  2. Team games are often so laggy that again ranged inf and elephant armies always win because the most played maps are just awfull for anything micro intensive like cav or artillery. Also archer civs dont even make champion archers , their eco is basically wood and food.
  3. I never played with an archer not because of being anti meta , it's just because I came to pay as macedon and the diadochoi. But it's really frustrating , after so much work and micro to finally get the upper hand the *****s just disconnect.
  4. This is a rant. Why even play 1v1 if you don't want to risk losing your ranking? Ffs after archer and elephant spam people still disconnect after 20 minutes when their "strat" doens't work. Really here i am trying to rush age 3 to get towers before i get an avalanche of arrows in my face vs them only having to gather wood and food for most of the game. Plus making cavalry ain't gonna help against archers or elephants cuz spear cav sucks against everything that ins't a woman, hell even skirmishers kill elephants faster than spear cav. Seriously this is ridiculous as it happened twice today. " oh well better alt-F4 , he can't win if there is no opponent " I just can't fathom why even do this in a community made game that is not mainstream.
  5. I think i was not very clear, sorry about that. I meant to say that spear cav do tend to fair worse against ranged infantry than sword cav, in that way they do outperform in the traditional cavalry role. As you seem like a sceptic, letswaveabook provided a few tests:
  6. Yeah it is something i could get behind but the problem is that changing champ pikemen can make the ptol and seleucid rosters bloated.
  7. thanks, this post seems to be more about making it possible to ahve a working syntagma, and the scale of objects in game. As someone already pointed that formations are not a priority and will remain as eye candy for the most part so I already quit trying to advocate for working formations .
  8. Since changing up the standard pikeman would upset the balance so much why not give the champion pikeman a bigger sarrissa ando so , more range , in exchange for less armor?
  9. Ranged Infantry: Archer civs: Eastern Empires( kush , maurya and persia) Skirmisher/javelineer civs: Greek States, Successor kingdoms #Like the pike/spear dichotomy I presented earlier these will fill the same roughly the function with some specialization here and there, but also be exclusive to some factions with exceptions of course in the form of mercenaries/champs. · Archers Archers should have minimum range and way less damage than what they currently have (these values could be restored to archer civilizations via two upgrades: archer tradition, and a new one, or maybe just raise the cost of archer trad.). . Javelineers The dedicated heavy infantry and elephant killers, contrary to the archers these shouldn't have a minimum range but have their attack interval increased to 2 seconds. Also dedicated skirmisher civs could have an upgrade that improves their armor a bit ( "iphicratian peltast" or whatever). I still don't have an idea how to make them less effective against spear cav ( other than giving spear cav more armor) , which they should be. . Slingers Slinger civs: Barbarians Keep the ability to dmg buildings as normal but could inflict a bit more damage to other ranged troops than what they do now, namely archers due to their lower armor. This will make the slinger a tad bit more specialized to counter archers and buildings. #With these changes I hope to make ranged infantry a minority in most armies save for Athenians, Mauryans and Persians. Where the archer would be all around unit, the skirmisher and slinger would be more specialized troops. #Carthage and iberians are omited because they are/should be jacks of all trades in regard to ranged troops. #Slingers would be the primary response to ranged infantry for the barbarian factions.
  10. I fully support this and even noted some of my ideas down but as someone already told me , Delenda Est already does some of these Melee infantry: Firstly, melee soldiers should only do hack damage just to make it simple. · Pikemen/spearmen: I want to differentiate between pike civs (Macedon and Successor Kingdoms) and spear civs (Greeks, Carthage). #Both should keep their anti cav bonus but note that being more tightly packed to attacking behind one another and their lower pierce armour make their counter pretty obvious. #Their rate of attack should stay the same. #Another thing, pike civs shouldn't have access to spearmen except for mercenaries and/or champions, the same applies for spear civs. #To further differentiate between civs, the Macedonian pike must have slightly better states than those of the successors to simulate the experience Macedonians had in phalanx warfare vs the native levies that the successors trained. Champions These for the most part are fine but like their citizen counterparts I propose that we change up champions. Take these 3 civs whose cavalry champions are spearmen: Macedon, Seleucids and Ptolemies and their hetairoi, kataphracktoi , agema cav respectively. We could make gameplay more interesting and appease the historical accuracy crowd at same time. The hetairoi could be the less armoured of the three but more powerfull attack wise, the kataphraktoi could be exactly the opposite (as their name implies) and the Ptolemaic agema cav could be a middle ground. Of course, this was just an example, all champs could be tweaked in a similar manner.
  11. But pikemen being good against cav but bad against archers is the holy triangle of RTS counters!! Historically I bet they were more vunarable to archers than hoplites due their shield ( not sure if i should call it pelta) being smaller than the traditional aspis.
  12. "... pikemen needed to have huge armor stats" Yeah its weird , when I first played and didn't knew how to check unit's stats I was adamant that spearmen had better armor than pikemen.
  13. If Seleucids have sword cav i don't think we will see spear cav after phase 2 anymore . People will just go for sword cav everytime since these outperform spear cav by alot , except aginst other cavalry but thse encounters are few and far between as you are way more likely to face archer spam or spear/sword spam with some siege for support.
  14. Should we homogenize the damage type done by both spear and sword cavalry? Like giving spear cav only hack damage?
  15. Wait really? I new the mod was a sort of overhall for the game but as it isn't ported to A24 i didn't even bother getting the A23 compatible version.
  16. I remember those nasty wolves in aom , that and fibulwinter....
  17. Yes you are right but how many people you see using stand ground on pikemen? In theory thats what they should do but as you saw in the video they tend just be side by side and when they get behind one another it is barely noticeable to the point It doesnt really matter if they do or not.
  18. Yup that's a nice compromise and negates the need to add another gatherer class.
  19. Well soldiers do gather wood slightly better than women and gather metal and stone way faster, they only resource were they faill is food. So in my modest opinion, yes you can build an army and build your economy at the same time because more soldiers means more of those three resources.
  20. Hence the nerfing of their stats i mentioned. Furthermore even if their stats weren't nerfed a bit , you can bet that large numbers of pikemen would be countered by the godly ranged inf. (which in this case i fully support theirs use) and anti-infantry siege units. So more varied gameplay i think, like aoe2 has the kamayuks and they don't break the game. But i don´t know maybe you are right.
  21. loose idea here. Make it so women can only build houses, farms, farmsteads and storehouses, secondly remove the ability to collect resource from citizen soldier but still allow them to build all buildings. Lastly i have seen talk of introducing another gatherer type on the forums , specifically about slaves, that with my proposal could be introduced as specialized stone and metal gatherers since the citizens wouldn't be able to collect them. Naturally these slaves wouldn't be able anything and they would probably have stats compared to women. I think all three of these aspects would bring new dynamic gameplay as more soldiers would no longer equal more eco power.
