  1. With the inclusion of Bindusara as the actual third hero, better change the catafalque name!

If "Śarīra" is used, then the generic name shouldn't be "Catafalque" but something like "Buddhist relics", with unit description rewritten to reflect this as the "remains of a notable Buddhist disciple or saint".

  2. I'm now seeing a few red flags regarding changeset 27779: the elite hoplite can now promote to epilektos, which makes not much sense. The latter, so-called "champion hoplite", is a by-product of the Iphicratean reforms, from the change of gear. Why overlook this in the name of balancing? Still waiting for the possible name change of technology and/or correction, as well as the reintroduction of champion javelineers.

  3. All work done in this game, especially modifications, is on a volunteer basis; what a little kid.

The .tga files uploaded by @d34d svn are extracted from a Rome: Total War modification, not intended for use in this one.

You can start by learning how to use a modelling program, create the required bits and pieces relating to these two Persian factions, add a texture, and eventually know how to stand up for yourself.

    Just saying.

Those two would be like the Antigonids or mid-late Macedonians with agema/royal peltasts or kestrosphedones (dart slingers), respectively. Most of the units on the list would fit this faction.

Isn't the opening poster the same guy as @Stitch from the related thread? If so, a critique of the image attachments:

The first two images are actually part of the Great Chaitya (Buddhist sanctuary or hall) inside Karla Caves, Maharashtra, which doesn't appear palace-like at all. Third is a generic chaitya and vihāra (Buddhist monastery) based on one from an unknown location. For the fourth, seeing a handful of temples alongside the Great Stupa, but where's the so-called "palace"? Good luck finding any good art or images for Pataliputra...

  6. Nor any known citizenship system in both factions. In place of both slavery and hard labor (health-decrease), a laborer, working class, or the related is a viable alternative. Closest are Simöbe/Yatuko (both mean "servant") and Siduwo ("lower-class man"). The ones normally rendered "citizen" can use either Tunepitö (ordinary man), Pitö ("man"), or Otöna ("adult").

"Caste" is a misnomer, especially in Indian contexts; best to research the concept of varna in this case. Also debatable is slavery in ancient India, especially during the Buddhist/Maurya timeframe. For now, Dāsa (male)/Dāsi (female) in reference to servants/workers/bondsmen.

Also, revert defense_tower back to Yagura because Takatönö actually refers to a "high or tall palace (building)" instead of actual stone tower; can't find any attestation about any latter per se.

  7. With the feature freeze around the corner, here are the finalized renaming requests!
    For @Lopess:

    • champion_infantry_axeman: Wono nö Tupamönö → Wono Tupamönö
      • remove "nö" because it literally translates "Axe of soldier"/"Soldier of axe"; also, this unit has the entity parent of "swordsman" instead of the intended "axeman", typo fix please
    • champion_infantry_swordsman: Turuki nö Tupamönö → Turuki Tupamönö
    • infantry_pikeman_b: Ainu Hunter Long spear → Ainu Hunter
    • siege_ram: Tukikomi → Yaburigï
      • literally "breaking-wood/tree"
    • support_trader: Akinapi → Akipitö
    • barracks: Sikömi nö Nipa → Tamuro
    • corral: Wori → Koya
      • literally "small house", i.e. for animals
    • dock: Tu → Minato
    • farmstead: Kömëgura → Kura
      • "kura" can mean storehouse of any objects, for consistency with other foodstuffs
    • field (wheat/grain): Nora → Patake
      • literally "field for growing crops", no/nora/para for any kind of field
    • range: Ikusa nö Nipa → Yanipa
    • shrine (in structures/yayo folder): Jinja → Yasirö
      • overlooked
    • wall_tower: Yagura → Sumi
      • literally "corner"
    • wallset_stone: Yōng → Kaki
      • overlooked

    For @wowgetoffyourcellphone:

    • cavalry_archer_b: Umanöri Mësikakaë → Umanöri Mësikakapë/Korean Retainer Archer
      • Forgot to add "p" in "Mësikakapë" if you want to use the full old Japanese
    • champion_infantry_axeman: Wononö → Masurawo Axeman
      • "masurawo" literally means "brave/strong man", fitting for a champion
    • champion_infantry_swordsman: Turukinö → Masurawo Swordsman
    • infantry_slinger_b: Tubutenagë Slinger → Tabutenagë Slinger
    • merc_cavalry_1:    → Umanöri Mësikakapë/Korean Mercenary Archer
    • merc_infantry_1: Ainu Long Spear Hunter → Ainu Hunter
    • siege_ram: Tukikomi → Yaburigï
    • support_citizen: Simöbe
    • support_slave: Siduwo/Yatuko
      • though no known system of slavery in place
    • support_trader: Akinapi → Akipitö
    • barracks: Sikömi nö Nipa → Tamuro
    • corral: Wori → Koya
    • defense_tower_stone: Yagura → Takatönö
      • literally "tall building"
    • dock: Tu → Minato
    • farmstead: Kömëgura → Kura
    • field: Nora → Ta
      • "ta" specifically for "rice paddy"
    • field_cash_crops: Nora → Patake
    • market_stall: Mise → Misedana
      • "mise" is short for "misedana" literally "display shelf", shorter form only attested since 13th century
    • range: Ikusa nö Nipa → Yanipa
    • shrine (in structures/yayo folder): Jinja → Yasirö
    • wall_gate: Chéng Mén → Kado
    • wall_long: Chéng Yuán → Kaki
    • wall_medium: Chéng Yuán → Kaki
    • wall_short: Chéng Yuán → Kaki
    • wall_tower: Chéng Lóu → Sumi
    • wallset_stone: Yōng → Kaki

    Technology specific names:

    • Fishing Culture: Sunadöri
    • Copper Bells: Akagane (literally "copper [metal]", since bell can also be translated as "kane")
    • Traditional Rituals: Nöritö (literally "ritual prayer")
    • Korean Mercenary Cavalry: Karabitö (literally "Korean people")
    • Warships: Pune
    • Advanced Ranged Infantry: Masurawo
    • Elite Ranged Infantry: Ikusa

    Fixes:

    • The wonder can have the GenericName of "Ise Grand Shrine"
    • Himiko should have female phenotype parameter
    • Opobune means "large boat" while Wobune "small boat"; what decides the name of the bireme/light warship is the finished model.

Anything else missing or in need of better translation?

  8. @Lopess, had just made a few corrections for my previous reply above.

Tubute should be "Tabute" because the latter attested in Man'yo, former is 10th century and could be a sound shift from latter.

Forgot to add a "p" in "Mësikakapë"

Some as just as elusive; can think of differing names for wall-turret, light warship, and battering ram.

    What else needs translation/correction?

  9. After seeing the Github mod page and @Lion.Kanzen's Yayoi video I'm beginning to see some inconsistencies with the specific names. Time for a rewrite!

Classic Japanese Tsukai typically translates to "messenger", so it's preferred to use -möti ("-holder, -wielder") instead

    • Axeman: Onoduki → Wonomöti
    • Spearman: Pokötuki → Pokömöti

Female citizen: Josei (Sino-Japanese, NGです) → Womina ("young woman", as opposed to Omina "old woman") or simply Me ("female")

Slinger: Isinagë → Tabutenagë ("throwing stone-thrower")

Archer: Ite → Yumitöri ("bow-taker", first attestation in 8th century Hizen Fudoki, Ite is 10th century)

Korean horsearcher: → Umanöri Mësikakapë ("horse-riding mercenary", verb meshi-kakaeru first attested in 17th century but both components separately are in OJP literature)

    Champions

    • Axeman: → (Wono nö) Tupamönö
    • Swordsman: → (Turuki nö) Tupamönö
    • There are actually a few more words that mean "sword", depending on the description: Turuki or Turugi is straight and usually double-edged, Tati long and curved, and there's Sapi

    Naval

    • Fishing boat: → Turibune
    • Merchant ship: → Akinapibune ("trading boat") or Wobune ("small boat")
    • Light warship: → Opobune ("large boat"), Yakata ("roofed boat"), Wobune ("small boat", as above) or simply Pune (how to define smaller/larger boats?)

    Farmstead: Kömëgura ("rice granary")

Field: decide between Ta ("rice paddy"), No, Nopara, or stick with current Nora (all three mean "field" in general and are attested in OJP literature)

Since Ba ("place") is first attested in 13th century, older Nipa ("place, field, garden") could be plausible

    • Barracks: Sikömiba → Sikömi nö Nipa ("training field/place")
    • Archery Range: Sikömiba → Ikusa nö Nipa ("soldiers' field/place")
    • Forge: Kanutiba → Kanutiya (compare modern Kajiya)

Outpost: → Mipari (noun late-19th century, verb miharu 9th century)

Market: → Iti (first attested in Kojiki)

Shrine can use Yasirö while Temple should be changed to Miya.

    Wall: → Kaki

    • Gate: → Kado
    • Turret: → Kakizumi ("wall-corner") or just Sumi ("corner"), didn't want to repeat the defensive tower nameYagura

Arsenal: →Takumiya ("artisan's shop") or Tukuriya ("construction shop")

Battering ram: Tukikömimönö ("smashing-object"), Pasira ("pillar"), or, if no other placeholder, Pa-zyau-tui (Hajōtsui)

    Ainu Village: → Kotan

Wonder: Issei Temple → Ituki nö Miya, the generic name parameter can be "Ise Shrine" or for posterity "Ise Grand Shrine"; what's with the "Issei" autocorrect?

The idea to have units becoming entirely naked with increasing experience is confusing for the players. It is problematic for the Gallic elite slinger, the Britonnic elite slinger, the Britonnic elite javelineer and the Britonnic elite cavalry javelineer.

Whose idea was to add these "naked fanatics" actor to these citizen soldiers back then, by any chance? My suggestion used to be a 1/10 (or less like 1/13) chance of being a naked fanatic for elite/champion infantry melee for consistency. Or maybe the illustrations were a bit exaggerated, I suppose...

  11. Promising wonder. The smaller temple like structures may not be necessary though; the big one temple, platform, and stairs are enough.

Also, if Pagondas be the fourth hero, the Sacred Band hoplite ought to be replaced with a Thespian, "epilektos"-like, or city guard hoplite. Inspiration from Victrix miniatures:
28mm-ancients-theban-armoured-hoplites-5th-to-3rd-century-bce-1_600x.jpgVictrix Get All the Ancient Greek States Ready for War – OnTableTop – Home of Beasts of WarhobbyThebans_1_800x_443931ab-d95b-4ff0-9b53-0ecc516040b7_1200x1200.jpg

If Cassander be fifth, the citizen and champion hoplites (as well as the Thespian) should be generic hypaspists and agema. These may not look like Sacred Band hoplites, but it can be a good start for the Thespian replacement (substitute helmets with Hellenistic-era ones?):

    1. Isn't it fat for Athens to have epibates on T2? Top swordsmen from T3 are not too much at this stage?

In previous alphas, there used to be a mercenary Thracian swordsman, but the building that produces it got removed. I am for the epibates/marines to be citizen infantry swordsmen instead, and fast ones too.

    2. Why do the Persians need chariots? In terms of parameters, they are identical to horse archers.

For now. If a dedicated turret system is in place for these bad boys. with the Petra AI should be allowed to arbitrarily add/remove troops to/from them, the primary attack changes to the scythes as intended.

    3. Absolutely unbalanced heroes in the game. I have already seen a separate branch in the game on this score. There are two options here – to use historical achievements and personality traits, or to go more from the balance side.

We need more hero actors, especially for scenarios. Generic ones for regicide/herocide too. We don't even have one for the legendary Julius Caesar and Mark Antony! among others.

It appears that you are using a translator to reply to this thread. Especially the "fat" and "we", some of these make no sense to me, though.

  13. Some of the Roman soldiers, namely the elite hastati/principes, advanced/elite triarii, extraordinarii, Atlas-only infantry heroes, murmillones, and Marian legionnaires/centurions assuming testudo have clipping issues with their crested/plumed helmets and scuta for the testudo_top. Triarii have the same for spears for testudo_front_left and anti_cavalry_front; anti_cavalry_back has them suffer the same with their left hands. Han spearmen, despite being overlooked after commit freeze, seems to have no problem because of the hand-handle inconsistency.

In O.a.d, there is the adretos, the marcaros, who start  naked and the briton marcaros loses his pant when his level increases. Only the fanatic should be totally naked.

How about this for consistency: the elite mercenary Gallic infantry swordsmen for both Carthage and Egypt can have a 1/10 (or less, like 1/13) chance the same thing. Of course, without affecting the armor statistics.

Until the Eastern Han Dynasty, there was only one Buddhist temple in China, the White Horse Temple in Luoyang, and the appearance of the pagoda in the game was close to the style of the Song Dynasty. , this is wrong, please remove this building.

To make matters worse, the White Horse Temple was built after 1 BC, off the timeframe of this game. Can be a potential part 2 prop though.
