  1. Welcome to the forums krish! Hope you'll enjoy being a part of this community. Just out of curiosity, how did you find us?
  2. http://www.grandages.com/us/gr_screens.php Took a Google search to find them
  3. There was only one entry for the Celts and it was not good enough to be used. As people had time to submit entries now but obviously didn't I doubt another competition would give us some good clips. Unfortunately
  4. After listening to the entries in the Get in the Game! contest we've decided upon the winner. Unfortunately we didn't get any Celt entries that were good enough so there is only one winner: Let's congratulate Tilanus_Commodor who was best among the entries for the Hellenes. Congratulations Tilanus_Commodor! I've sent a PM for you with details on how to claim the prize, so please follow the instructions. Thanks to everyone who participated in the contest
  5. This forum is primarily for discussion between developers working on 0 A.D. In other words: Unrelated questions will be moved/deleted While team members might participate when they have time we cannot promise to answer every question as we need to prioritize the actual development. To read info on a lot of things from how to checkout the game from SVN to playing the game to the Technical Design Document please go to the Trac Wiki. Just beginning with developing 0 A.D? Want to download the game to check out the current state? Then check out the Getting Started guide.
  6. Our plan is to release the entire game as freeware, and the engine is central to it all so it would not be possible to release the game as freeware without it in any case.
  7. A video will not tell you very much about how finished the game is, just what we want you to see
  8. Well, it's up to all the people who know it's free to make it known that you can get the game for free
  9. Well, why buy something one can get for free?
  10. Well, according to Wikipedia it's the name of a valley in Germany, which had its name changed when they had some language reforms in Germany. The thing is though that the scientific name Homo neanderthalensis was given before that reform, and scientific names can't be changed after the fact according to the info I saw. But sure, the valley is nowadays spelled Neandertal.
  11. Got curious and took a quick look around the internet, seems like it's mainly a matter of personal choice (Though the 'th' version seems more common than the 't' version, 1.8 million results in a Google search, compared to about 397 000 for the Neandertal spelling. I know that doesn't prove anything, but it does at least indicate that it's more often spelled that way. )
  12. Well, as I've said time and time again, I'm sure we would like to have a date more than most of you The truth is that unlike a corporation where one knows before-hand how much time will be available for a project every week we don't know. Some weeks there's a lot of time for the project, other weeks there's a lot of other things taking up all the time, like school, other hobbies, work, etc. And also, while there is a moral obligation for the team members to participate and do as much as they can to further the project there's no way to force anyone to do anything The only thing we can do to make individual team members work as much as possible on the project is to try and make them have as much fun as possible and try and make contributing as easy as possible. About whether or not 0 A.D. will be released: I sure hope so, and will do what I can to make it possible, but I can't guarantee anything. Hopefully not too far into the future, but as we want to release a good game and not just something that's barely playable I think it will still be some years into the future. Feel free to suggest ways for us to make it happen sooner, but I'm afraid there isn't much to do. Unless you would hire a bunch of experienced programmers to work on the game or something
  13. Hmm, I'm 100% sure you can't fly a real helicopter, but about an in-game helicopter I don't know about Well, we won't have flying units in 0 A.D. as far as I know, but on the other hand I guess it shouldn't be too hard to implement. I guess it depends on how good simulation you're looking for though, it should be possible to just offset the model from the ground to make it appear like it's flying. Anything more fancy than that and I think you'd need to be able to program to get it to work.
  14. I recently found this site http://academicearth.org which houses a lot of free video lectures by a lot of good professors (the little I've seen so far is good in any case, and they're from universities like Yale, MIT and Berkely so they should be "fairly good" ). Among the courses they have on the site is one called "Introduction to Ancient Greek History", I've only had time to view the introduction so far but I thought it was good enough to share with everyone here, so please take a look if you're into ancient greek history: http://academicearth.org/courses/introduct...t-greek-history (Why would you be here unless you'd be interested in history one may ask =) But sure, I'm not going to say that anyone has to leave in case they're not. I mean I hope one will be able to enjoy playing 0 A.D. even without being into history )
  15. Indeed, and that's what's said in the first post, there seems like a lot of people have posted in this thread without reading the previous posts
  16. As the title says, you have only one week left to enter in the contest, so hurry up if you want to have a chance to win the prize (a subscription to Ancient Warfare is rewarded to the top two entries). If you want to have some inspiration to get your inner warrior going, Joshua (aka Shogun_144 on the forums) has posted two short but interesting articles about the languages you will have to use in the contest: Celts: Gaulish Celtic Hellenes: Attic Greek To read more about the contest go to the Get in the game contest page. In other news we've recently got two new artists who have been turning out new buildings in a rate I haven't seen before We will show some of that later this spring so stay tuned. Also, for those who are interested in getting more/other updates than what we provide on this site there's always our Moddb profile. Be warned that it might contain spoilers though, so if you want to get a sense of exploring an unknown world when you first play 0 A.D. I suggest you'll wait until after the release to visit our Moddb profile
  17. 0 A.D. will be more RTS than RTT, though we hope to add some more RTT elements in that we want to add some more value to formations and so, in general it's far more RTS than RTT though. (As a personal side note I find RTS easier to micro-manage than RTT, but that might be more due to me being used to RTS game play than RTT )
  18. Ah, ok Then I understand that much at least
  19. Alfheim? I'm not sure what/where that is, nor how you'd get the impression that we'd create such a map, so please explain it so you may end my ignorance
  20. The best way to get an idea for what we're looking for is to listen to the musical samples we already have up on the website. They might not be final, but they're far better indications of what we're looking for than any words I might say The tracks can be found at: http://www.wildfiregames.com/0ad/page.php?p=1495
  21. Please show some patience and don't post/email three times about the same thing. I've replied in your other thread. Consider this one closed.
  22. Well, there's no reason for us to list the positions which aren't open, right? If you show us something more suitable to 0 A.D. than the music on your MySpace page I'll make sure our head of music will listen to it.
  23. I actually think we have a dragon around from a halloween image some years ago, so it would be possible to do I guess =) I, and a lot of others I'm sure, won't allow it to be part of ordinary game-play though Speaking of dragons I suggest that you try the campaign Dragon Cult for Rise and Fall (can be found at: http://raf.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=54 ). There are some glitches in one of the scenarios and so, but the last scenario is truly worth that, it is epic I'd say.
  24. For a game like Civilization it's a good thing, but for 0 A.D. with more focus on the warfare part I'd think that many resources would be a bad thing. I mean, in an RTS where you have to react to things in real-time things need to be a bit simpler than in a turnbased game like Civilization where you've got time to think carefully about every choice you make.
