Please feel free to translate the various documents and pages (and finally the game) we provide, but be aware that things might change and thus your translation might be out-dated. And that's of course a good warning for everyone who's just reading these resources: While we try to keep the English texts up-to-date we cannot guarantee that the translated texts are. It's up to the community to make sure that any non-English texts stay updated. (Though that doesn't mean that team members who know a certain language won't update things if they are aware of it and want to, just that for us English is the main language of communication and that we'll prioritize it.) With that said: Feel free to use this forum for different kinds of localization/translation topics! (We thank the author of this post: http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12510 for the idea of having a sub-forum for translations )

At the moment it's not possible to choose what civilization you play by clicking on the shield. In fact I think it's only the dropdown list with maps and the checkbox for screenshot mode that works of the options. You can however change to another map that's got the Celts on them to be able to play as Celts. And yeah, we're aware of that bug, but thanks for telling us anyway, it could have been something we're not aware of

Statistics on Participation in the Open Source OAD Project
feneur replied to greenm1981's topic in General Discussion
It's just a few weeks since we opened up the source, so I doubt any statistics we can give you right now would be all that relevant in a long-term sense. -
Installation and writable files
feneur replied to Ykkrosh's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
Was looking through the Trac Tickets and found something related: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/81 -
Hmm, that's strange. I can access it both over the web and when checking out the public repository. I've tried to make our SVN guy aware of this though, so while he doesn't have time at the moment he's going to take a look at it later.

Is the 0 AD game released?
feneur replied to Blarneystone's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
It's not released. The thing is that we have opened up the source code that's used to build the game so that other developers can download it and take a look at it and help develop the game etc. It's not yet in a state where it's of much value if you just want to play it though, so if you can't find out how to download and compile the game I doubt you'd want to. It's not that I want to be mean to you, it's just that it's not worth downloading for you at the moment as far as I can tell. -
Problem building FCollada
feneur replied to kodai's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
Unfortunately we had to disable PM for new users due to spam, but I've enabled it for you now (and anyone gets access to the PM system after having made 10 posts, if someone really feel like they need to be able to send a PM before that please send me an email or post about it on the forums). -
Someone might have deb packages, but I doubt that the game in its current state will be much fun to you if you don't know how to compile. It's not yet finished enough to be enjoyed by players so this "release" should be seen as something for programmers.

Program assertion upon execution
feneur replied to a topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
I'll let the programmers answer the more technical aspects, but I can say this much. When using the quickstart option the game doesn't use sound which explains why it doesn't look for the .dll in that case. -
Nope, it means it is good against two units, and that two units are good against it.
-
It could also be since there are so many variations. Many of them new since this post was made

Hello and welcome to the forums. I think what Bellabie means is that it can get crowded if everyone posts a new topic just to introduce themselves. I don't see it as a problem as we have this forum specifically for introductions and people not interested in reading/posting can just ignore posts in here. I don't see any reason why more than one person shouldn't be allowed to post in the same topic on the other hand, so feel free to do what you want
-
It was a minor thing compared to mine though, so you're still more awake than me
-
Yeah, you're right I have to blame that I just got up and isn't awake yet or something =) Thanks for being awake Philip

Well, any non-historical objects will be strictly scenario editor only objects, so no worries about having to see them in ordinary maps (unless the map itself has got a mythical theme of course ).

The resolution can be edited by going to [the place where you checked out 0 A.D.]/binaries/data/config/default.cfg and edit the lines: xres = 1024 yres = 768

0 A.D. is a free, real-time strategy game currently under development by Wildfire Games. It's cross-platform, 3D and historically-based. Wildfire Games is switching from a closed development process to open source, making the game's code available as GPL and the art content available as CC-BY-SA. People are encouraged to reuse and learn from and improve our work. We are not releasing a playable game, but we want to show what we have achieved and make it easier for more people to get involved in bringing it closer to completion. Check out our open source page for more details and info on how you can contribute.Questions? Check out the developers forum and wiki.

Animal AI, i.e. for example animals attacking units within LOS, is indeed planned. So is terrain affecting movement, but not dangerous terrain.
-
While not exactly the way you describe it we already have that planned. See http://wildfiregames.com/0ad/album_page.php?pic_id=10123 for a concept sketch.

For the main part of the engine we use C++, and for scripting we use Javascript.

Well, the thing is that it's not really the civilizations that's holding a release back, it's the overall gameplay. We're not too far away from opening up the source (i.e. making the source code available to download) so while we're not releasing a playable game we're making the code available so it's not impossible that someone else might take the game in its current state and create an installer. I really hope that people rather spend time on other things, and it's not very likely that people spend time on doing something like that for an unfinished game, but it might happen. You speak about feedback, and it's sure something we'll need, but the feedback most users would give at the moment isn't what we need as the energy isn't best spent on small bug fixes etc but rather on getting the game closer to a finished state. We do of course try to fix the bugs we find, but it's not really worth testing to find every small bug before the code is more finished.
-
It's the years from 0 A.D. to 500 BC if you put it another way, and yeah, it's also partly "everything we wanted to put into part one, but would've taken too much time". But apart from us having a wishlist with some things left out from part 1 and the timespan nothing is certain yet. We want to finish this part first you know
-
The only difference between night and day (and different weather for that matter) is graphical. There were ideas for how it would affect gameplay, but those have been postponed to part 2 (or rather, postponed for now and it's to be decided if they'll make it into part 2) together with some other features that have been cut to make it possible to get the game done reasonably soon. Personally I'm not sorry not to have them, I turn of the weather in EE as I just find it boring.
