  1. We understand that the developers are volunteers and that they don't owe the players anything, but you have to admit that currently game hosting isn't convenient for a variety of reasons (IPv4 CGNAT issues, P2P etc.) if anything players hacking their own solution by paying for their own servers to host the game should be at the very least tolerated. In my opinion the game develops very slowly (that's how open source community driven works) and human nature implies that if you people aren't given an option they'll come up with their own solutions and they can't be blamed for that. I don't see how a single player creating a single dedicated account to host games is any different than a player forgetting his credentials and creating another account to host games, especially considering that it was done with no malicious intent and with well thought safe guards (spam protection, moderator player system etc.) So far everyone who played on those hosted servers had a great experience and they're pushing back on your decision (and rightfully so) because they see how a very efficient and convenient way of playing the game is being taken away from them over technicalities. As for what should be done next I think uff (and other selected players) should be allowed to host a fixed number of server instances (at least 1, more if the mods allow it) since so far it's only been positive until a true functioning headless 0ad server is released.

  2. Ok, I checked on Google Earth for scenario 1 of the battle. It takes place between Point A (Cueva de la Pileta ) and Point B (Serranía de Ronda). The area looks a lot like a mix of Hindu Kush Skirmish and Zagros Mountains Skirmish. I'm attaching the photos.

  3. The concern about "protecting privacy and security" doesn't feel entirely convincing, given that the current hot-seat setup already leaves privacy and security largely in the hands of the players. For instance, anyone hosting a game can see connecting IP addresses and can already run the game on a modified host anyway. As for the second account, it didn't seem like uff was trying to hide anything, especially since the username was so similar to his main one. It looks like he only did it to work around current system limitations so he could actually host and play at the same time. I actually had similar ideas about setting up my own hosts, but I didn't want to pay for a GPU-enabled hosting service, and I haven't yet found the time to modify the engine. Specifically, it requires decoupling XMPP from the GUI in C++, exposing the Lobby API to headless mode, and writing an autostart JS script to manage the server without rendering. IMHO, volunteer-run hosts significantly improve matchmaking queue times, ultimately making the game much more accessible to everyone.

  4. Also, nothing is more discouraging to me when I sign in to the forums then to see 50+ bot spam posts in Russian.

  5. I haven't put much thought into the minor factions yet, but yeah they're mostly going to be filling niches that other races don't expand on, or to add to races that don't have a feature (like Wizzrobes mages to help out the magic-less Moblins). Volvagians are definitely going to be a heavy unit group, focusing on fire damage and siege. Subrosians will mostly focus on mining and upgrades, with a boomerang unit and some weak melee stuff Huskus will be a strange mix of expensive units with a high damage output and swarm units that are almost useless.

  6. I see, although usually they have to wait hours or days for an answer to whatever they ask, so in principle I don't think the problem is as serious as it initially might seem.

  7. @Perzival12Great idea; I’ve tested things like that in the past—it’s really good! @guerringuerrinJust a reminder: all victory conditions in the game are optional. In other words, if a particular victory method doesn't appeal to you, you simply don't have to play with it—and that's perfectly fine.

  10. Hey everyone! I’m back with more news about my mod, World Rising! I’m currently working on implementing the Yayoi culture, and one of my main goals is to make players truly feel their civilization evolving gradually throughout the match. When you advance from the Jomon to the Yayoi, I currently plan to keep the buildings from the previous culture in your city. This way, progression won’t simply replace everything instantly. The old buildings will remain functional and will even be able to produce units from the previous culture. It will be entirely up to the player to decide when it’s time to destroy them, replace them with new Yayoi buildings, or even keep some of them. I want this transition to make each city tell its own story, mixing old and new elements as the civilization evolves. It’s completely up to the player to decide what to do with their city! The Yayoi buildings are still not all finished. Since this culture represents a more advanced period, I’m adding a lot more detail to the buildings, both in their architecture and in the smaller decorative elements. And personally, I think the results are looking incredible! =D There’s still a lot more to show, and I’ll be bringing you more development updates very soon. For now, enjoy these images! And please leave a comment! I’d really love to know what you think. Opinions, suggestions, criticism, and compliments are always welcome, as all of your feedback helps a lot with the development of World Rising. Thank you so much to everyone who has been following and supporting the project! More World Rising updates coming soon!
