  1. Well at least now that the game is signed, macos users won't have their operating system telling them that the game is malware XD. I suppose it could just be "In development".

  2. Sorry, could not stop phantatasizing: There could be three additional elements: - roads ("buildable buildings/flat walls placed on land, and that can be walked on by everyone, providing a speed bonus") - bridges ("roads on a wall through water") - ramps ("bridge on land") Now imaginge: - the effect of building a bridge through a river that actually blocks ships like a wall blocks an army on land. Of course the bridge could be attacked by a ship (like a wall by an army). - Civs having poor naval skill could instead have good building techs so they can reach that close island with a bridge (I suggest a maximum length needs to be defined) - effect of a ramp to access that mountain plateau that has precious resources or that is only accessible from a well protected side. Of course ramps can be destroyed by anyone. (Owner will be Gaia even if you built it yourself!) - the effect of a road into enemy territory that not only accelerates own troops but also the enemy during his counter attack. Roads would need to be protected. /end phantasizing All this would need considerable amount of changes and certainly is to be defined and assessed carefully in all consequences. A mod would be a good candidate to test such things. I would volunteer implementing it if I could do it at all.

  3. ... or actually build roads and bridges? Kind of a special building? A bridge could cross water or represent a ramp to a cliff. This would mean allowing to build elements that would be finally owned by Gaia (very much like some watch towers) - but that can be walked on, then giving a speed bonus and that can be added to and destroyed as well? Destroyed by artillery or ships, I mean. Wild, wild dreams... (unfortunately I am not able to contribute coding at all. I know it is always easy to express some wild ideas and expext others to do the hard work)

  5. It's true, but lots of games, also paid ones, are under development (e.g. Among Us, COD Mobile, Fall Guys, Fallout 76), but they only release an upgrade and a banner with all change listed. It gives to the player a feel of care toward the game coming from the developers, not a feel of unfinished or worse abandoned.

  6. Interesting how opinion differs here. I like the in Development disclaimer. I also don´t think calling the different game versions alpha XX is a issue. Since you can play the game for free and it is in development it´s ok that things are not perfect or subject to change. I´m not a typical gamer so maybe i´m the wrong person to ask. When i get this question from my fiends that i got to install the game my reply is: because there will be more features, it will be better with the next version or if you want you can help them, write a mod with your own changes. From my point of view all of that is positive.

  7. Is the battering ram aura something that is coming out in a27? The increased speed based on garrisoned units!?! That's something i suggested a while back. I dont know how to work that in yet though. Still too nub at this coding thing.

  8. I made some new tip images: I still have the full-res, uncropped images in case anyone wants them. Also, can someone tell me how to enable rendering the sky? And how can one rotate the camera up and down in Atlas?

  12. I can’t say how easy or hard it would be to pass through their curation process, but I think 0 A.D. would be a great fit for GOG, if distributed there as a free game. It would no even need an "early access" label (it is already in a much better state than many *released* commercial games). Many GOG customers are starved for RTS games, and multiplayer games that can be played without going through a store launcher/DRM. Many of them joined the store for "old" games and are still waiting for Age of Empires, so having access to 0 A.D. could scratch their itch. I expect launching the game on GOG would have a bigger effect on 0 A.D. popularity than what itch.io did, if only because of the small catalogue leading to each game getting more (relative) exposure. To get an idea, here is their full list of so-called real-time strategy games (most of these are not even what we would call RTS): https://www.gog.com/en/games?genres=strategy&tags=real-time&hideDLCs=true It would be very easy for 0 A.D. to shine when compared to most of these games. --- On the topic of the alpha version, I too am in the opinion that it does no longer help. I would suggest dropping alpha, beta or whatever and stick to the 0.0.27 naming scheme (0.1.0 would be first beta, 1.0.0 first "complete" release). Alpha/beta could stay in internal discussions, but no longer has an useful meaning for distribution.

  13. We could try to put 0 AD in some not very well known indie store. Like https://itch.io/ itch.io is a simple way to find and share indie games online for free. There are a lot of niche games out there and a lot of fan games. About itch.io itch.io is an open marketplace for independent digital creators with a focus on independent video games. It’s a platform that enables anyone to sell the content they've created. As a seller you’re in charge of how it’s done: you set the price, you run sales, and you design your pages. It’s never necessary to get votes, likes, or follows to get your content approved, and you can make changes to how you distribute your work as frequently as you like. itch.io is also a collection of some of the most unique, interesting, and independent creations you'll find on the web. We're not your typical digital storefront, with a wide range of both paid and free content, we encourage you to look around and see what you find.
