  2. Hey all, A while back I offered to do some portraits for the game units but was unhappy with my portraiture at the time. I have since remedied that dissatisfaction and so i'm back to paint some heroes. First is hannibal, second is ashoka the great. They're rough works in progress and their costumes are left vague for now so people have a chance to throw reference at me before I waste time rendering something inaccurate. I intend to do a portrait for each faction then move into whatever appeals. Let me know what you think.

  3. Are you using our SVN repository or a release version of the game? If you're using a release, the original COLLADA (.dae) files will be pre-converted to PSA, but you can get the originals in most cases from SVN. For the others, some of the source .max files are in our art SVN, we might be able to get those if you need them. Which animation(s) were you looking for in particular? Also keep in mind the animation needs a rig/skeleton to be useful for anything, the PSA alone wouldn't help you much (the particulars of what it is can be found here).

  4. Why not make the player and ally get an equal bonus, so it's effectively 25% bonus for both? That seems clearer and simpler to me than a fraction of a fraction (which IIRC is how the patch is implemented).

  5. In fact, the proposal in the quoted thread was not exactly that one : it was to give only a fraction of the international bonus to the ally. So if the international bonus is 50% and that we decide to give 50% to the ally, the ally would only have 25% (50% of 50%) and the player 125%. So the player still gain more than with domestic trade where he would get only 100%, but part of this extra income is shared with the allied.

  10. I think different standards are confusing, principally for new users. When you are introduced to a game by your friends (and that's a far too common practice), you'll ask first your friend, about the game controls, and if the key that works for your friend doesn't work for you, you'll surely think it's bugged. Of course it's not that hard to find it's not bugged, but IMHO, ppl should be spared of this inconvenience.

  11. So I have an idea for the design of the hero units: Since chariots were used by the royalty a lot (and I mean to the point where royalty are rarely ever seen in anything other than a chariot) each hero should have a chariot, and on each chariot should be the hieroglyphic name in a cartouche (a ring around the name that shows it's a royal name). I can supply these later if we decide to go with the idea. Also, we could put some generic hieroglyphic inscriptions, which I can also provide, on buildings, shields, prop stelae, etc...

  12. Akhenaten's name was also struck from all public view by the dynasty that followed on his death and his monotheistic beliefs declared heresy. Enjoy the Choice

  13. Preferably use the following Civs to represent the Bronze Age Civs: Persians->Assyrians Carthaginians->Phoenicians Mauryans->Egyptians Spartans->Minoans Athenians->Mycenaeans Macedonians-> Sea Peoples Romans->Hittites Iberians->Hebrews Gauls->Babylonians Britons->Nubians I tried to match up the civs as best I could, but the majority of these are just arbitrary decisions -Atenmeses52

  14. Sweet, I've always wanted this! Not sure about the 'forced separation' part though. The economical one may also want to do the defences and in case of a surprise attack it could be better if he could also control some military units. I think that without the forced separation people are going to do this separation themselves anyway. "You do this, I do that." Really looking forward to this!

  15. With AoE2 you could have multiple players controlling the same units. This allows what you suggest but with no forced separation of roles. It seems fairly likely that we will include this in 0 A.D. because it is quite a neat feature and is very easy to implement. Separating the military from the economic sounds like quite a lot more work and seems like quite a niche feature so is much less likely. It sounds interesting though.

  17. As far historical units are concerned that needs to be higher than any RTS on and off the market... darn straight. I like 0.A.D. because one feels the world in a way that it takes you back to antiquity, the music, the feel, the graphics all form this experience and it's trully if I had to give it a word, beuatiful. It's a beautiful game. I think the water and rivers. lakes in the game are nice, I have not seen realistic graphics in a RTS like I have seen in 0.A.D. Yes there are a few things that need work.Gameplay Unit Editing Civilizations Extra Buildings But 0.A.D. is still being developed. One needs to understand... that Rome was not built in a day

  18. Could we possibly make the Roman and Carthaginian watchtowers a bit taller? Right now the wall turrets dominate them heightwise but get less attack range, which makes absolutely no sense to me.

  19. Wee I finally found the thread! I found a few references, and yes, building into cliffs is going to be a pain it the tookus, but it may work out. having individual cliffs for each major structure is silly, I have to say. Preexisting cliffs might work, but freestanding buildings are probably our best bet. From what I've gathered, nabataean architecture is more or less Persian with a heavy Roman influence. I have a few sketches given their form of agriculture I would suggest a low - yield orchard type farming system rather than fields If I'm being stupid please correct me. Just point it out- "yo lordgood that's WRONGG." all i need

  20. Roman eagles and standards would be cool. Another is the "Bones of Theseus" for the Athenians. http://www.greekmythology.com/Myths/Heroes/Theseus/theseus.html "Generations pasted without much thought being given to Theseus. Then during the Persian wars Athenian solders reported seeing the ghost of Theseus and came to believe him responsible for their victories. The Athenian general Cimon received a command from the Oracle at Delphi to find Theseus's bones and return them to Athens. This he did and he was reburied in a magnificent tomb that also served as a sanctuary for the defenseless."

  21. It would require some programming to get the assassin functionality described into the game. However, just because we haven't got any plans for it right now, doesn't mean that in the future it won't get added (possibly as part of a mod).
