Is there a public repo for play0ad.com?
Stan` replied to bowen951209's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
I had more something like this in mind https://stanleysweet.github.io/play0ad-website/ (made with Hugo) Based on an old design by @Pureon -
My main motivation for this mod was to get a more accurate rating in LocalRatings and the Teambalancer. More replays mean better ratings and better team suggestions. If you play a lot of team games, please upload yours. On the Replay Pallas page, press Upload local games…, or turn on automatic upload in the options. You’ll need a Replay Pallas account for this.

This mod connects 0 A.D. with Replay Pallas, the Wildfire Games site for sharing replays. It can upload your multiplayer games automatically and download all games of a player. This is mainly useful for LocalRatings: players you meet often but have few replays of can then be rated properly. Install by unzipping it into the right folder. Use the unzipped folder, not the zip, because the small helper program inside has to run: On Windows (Vista or newer): C:\Users\{name_of_user}\Documents\My Games\0ad\mods\ On OSX: ~/Library/Application Support/0ad/mods/ On Linux: ~/.local/share/0ad/mods/ (may be found in GUI via Home/.local/share/0ad/mods/) Then enable it in Settings > Mod Selection. You also need Python 3. How to use: Start the helper and leave it running while you play: helper/start_helper.bat on Windows, helper/start_helper.sh on Linux/OSX. Mods can’t access the internet themselves, so the helper does the uploading and downloading. Go to Main menu > Multiplayer > Replay Pallas, search for a player and press “Download games of …”. Open Local Ratings and press Rebuild. Uploading, the /pallas chat command, the filter options and everything else are explained in the README. Current version: 1.0.0 replay_pallas.zip

Is gitea.wildfiregames.com down?
Ceres replied to Ceres's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
Gitea seems to be experiencing issues again. Since October 30, SSH connections to gitea.wildfiregames.com on port 22 have been failing with Connection refused. The web interface is also intermittently unavailable, with pages such as https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad returning 503 Service Unavailable. Is this a known issue related to the recent outages? -
Is there a public repo for play0ad.com?

But, what would the backend be for? Like the news pages and releases? Cuz it might just be easier to update the git site when we want to update it -

That why I suggested/mentionned Sveltia CMS, which basically add a CMS backend based on Git to a static site. using Gitea Credentials/permissions, he provide a wysiwyg editor, and it handle all the commit/push side, allow using "review" (Aka Pull Request) ... it's neat -

Is there a public repo for play0ad.com?

Sure, we could do that. Unless we would want to start over and make a new website, because that one is 14 years old. Either is fine - Yesterday

bowen951209 replied to bowen951209's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
It runs on WordPress[1]. @Stan` was saying that Git is not very accessible to non-developers, but I don't know if WordPress can be configured so that anyone can modify the texts. -

bowen951209 replied to bowen951209's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
I currently only find that two pages outdated. But moving to a new site is worth a try. There shouldn't be many texts to update on play0ad.com. Most of the pages are news archives. -

===[TASK]=== Wooden Theatron for the Spartans (and Thebans)
nifa replied to wowgetoffyourcellphone's topic in Official tasks
For the record, there are two old models already in the game as actors (special/old/hellenes_theatre.xml): The left skene seems to be from lycurgan phase, the right one from hellenistic. See also: https://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/art_source/trunk/concept art/structures/rtheater.jpg (roman theater) https://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/art_source/trunk/concept art/structures/hellenes-specialbuilding-theatrondetail.jpg https://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/art_source/trunk/concept art/structures/MDHafer-hellenestheatron001.jpg Seems to me like the first concepts were more accurate somehow -

Civ: Germans (Cimbri, Suebians, Goths)
Genava55 replied to wowgetoffyourcellphone's topic in Delenda Est
Civilis did not possess a native Batavian navy. The vessels he commanded were captured Roman ships. Earlier in the rebellion, the Batavians had ambushed and captured Roman river flotillas (Classis Germanica) based along the Rhine, as well as light coastal vessels operating in the North Sea. To pad his numbers, Civilis added local transport boats, skiffs, and canoes. Tacitus notes in this quote you shared that he rigged these captured craft and boats with particoloured plaids (traditional Germanic woven cloaks) as improvised sails, creating a colorful visual display. -

Some phrases and ideas I found. The machine replicates the technique but not the sensitivity. This applies to the industrial revolution. It will become more expensive and elite to own something made through Craftsmanship art. People are going back to older techniques. You know how to do it by hand, and even with paint, and who knows, maybe even with natural paint. The Aesthetics of the "Smooth": Today, we find beauty in things that offer no resistance and cause no pain—like smartphones, Jeff Koons’ sculptures, or hairless skin. It is the triumph of positivity, where everything strange or disturbing is eliminated. ----- Now I say this: Without sacrifice there is no lasting gratification, only momentary gratification. That's why this project feels good. That's why building an empire over centuries is rewarding. Building more than consuming. Life loses its meaning if everything is so easy and immediate. Value your talents, guys. -

Only mention of Germans using sails seem to be during the Batavian Revolt, but they appear to be copying those in Roman ships (if not just replacing the sails in Roman ships that already had sails.) - Last week

I'm going to share something I didn't plan to share based on RTW2. Archer, third century. Theory should have a long lorica hamata, third-century helmet, oriental trousers. I couldn't agree on the helmet. It took me many tries. I'm going to use it as a base for drawing it.

Hello again, back from the wild with answers and questions of my own. I am still constructing possible phrases for the audio pack, irl stuff preventing me from focusing on this until recently. However, I have also been updating all the names of units, buildings and some technologies to have proper Proto-Zapotec (pZ) names. However, I am stuck on choosing between several options for a few buildings/units, because there is no direct translation possible and I ended up crafting multiple viable alternatives. If possible, could some of you have an opinion on some of the options I will list below for the troublesome translations? And if there is any idea for an alternate translation, do please let me know. (Note, the usage of a word for "eagle" is to denote championship, because of the concept of the eagle soaring over all, and because it is part of a larger mesoamerican tradition for using certain animals to denote skills and levels of skills) Scout/Sentry/Stone Tower (this is just for the word "tower"): kinilyasa (“tower, (lit.) nest-trunk”). Alt. kexlli (“tower, (lit.) standing-stone”). Alt. kexkiya (“tower, (lit.) raised-stone”). Alt. sshbexekiya (“tower, (lit.) above cloud”). I am essentially out of ideas how to represent scout at all, save perhaps use the word for "eagle" to denote far-sight or something. Champion Javelineers: Nazale’chisllo’kiya ("raised/uplifted spear thrower"). Alt. Nazale’kiya ("raised/uplifted thrower," there is no champion slingers to contradict such a contraction). Alt. Nazale’chis Nikwã-ssiya (“Eagle Spear-thrower”). Swordsman/Macuahuitl Warrior: Nike’yu Kiza’naru’ba’ ("macuahuitl(?) man"). Alt. Nike’yu Macahuitl ("Macuahuitl Man"). Alt. Nike’yu Llo’kex ("Obisidian Man"). Alt. Nadile ("fighter" pZ neologism made from a modern Zapotec word of unknown but trustworthy extraction). ALT FINAL. Nadile Llo’kex ("Obsidian Fighter"). For those wondering, there is no word in proto-zapotec for towers or any kind of fortification, any kind of fighting man, concepts involving war or weapons, save for a single word for 'arrow' (and the neologism I made). Even modern zapotec dialects/languages appears to have almost swapped any native words they once had for Spanish loanwords .
