In Delenda Est, you get Coin from them (to train mercenaries, which are a big part of the mod), but in the base game (Empires Ascendant) it can just be abstracted to Metal. A person definitely have to duck to pass through the arch or to stand under the backside awning. With 0ad buildings, the first floor should look about 90% the correct height next to a civilian, while 2nd floors are only something like 60-70% height accurate. That's the "0ad proportions."
