MarcusAureliu#s
Eae, recently i have noticed, that playing games, mostly 0 AD all of a sudden causes significant lag. Task manager claims, that CPU, RAM, Graphics Card are far from their respective limits. Cleaning my laptop from cookies /registry etc. as well as checking for a virus has not really helped. Do you have additional ideas what possible causes to check ? Edited August 27, 2023 by MarcusAureliu#s
Gurken Khan
First maybe check if the game uses the right (dedicated) GPU. From you description I suspect your antivir might be the cause; maybe you changed the one you were using or an update brings about this behavior. If it ~constantly checks the game's files & processes lags are likely. Maybe disable it for a test?
MarcusAureliu#s
I will try that, thanks

The issue started several days ago, so many reboots were done meanwhile.
ShadowOfHassen
Just curious, roughly how old is your computer, what version of windows are you using, and what is your gpu? How many background processes do you have running? (And if on windows) What do you have set for default start up apps? You said some other games did it as well, is it as bad? Is it using the openGL version of 0 A.D. or vulkan seeing what kind it renders could you try another game that uses the renderer and see if it works?

My GPUs are Intel HD Graphics 4600 as well as NVIDIA Geforce 840m There are 71 background processes My start up apps are: Updater.exe, Windows security notifications, Cisco Secure client and CC Cleaner ( last one is not the cause, i installed it after the problem occured) It actually is not even only about games, at some point everything gets slow. I have the feeling it gets worse over time after starting my pc. Maybe its just a hardware issue, but the problem occured over night basically, i remember 1 or 2 occasions where i could run 0AD normally though. I use Open GL for 0 AD.  21 hours ago, seeh said: so. unsurprisingly this idea doesn't help. I can't think of anything else right now that might help. You've probably had a quick look at the log files. What should i be looking for ? Gurken Khan
If you say everything gets slow I doubt you will find the solution within 0ad. I'd recommend a fresh install of your OS. Alternatively look again for malware, update drivers, kill all processes you can.

I also dont think 0 AD is the cause, thats why i posted it in off topics :D, 0 A.D is just the main victim, as lag makes it unplayable

real_tabasco_sauce
Do you have enough free storage on your storage device? If there isn't enough storage space, it can really slow down the computer in general. If you are above 90% full, it could possibly help to free up space.
ShadowOfHassen
I'd have to agree with @Gurken Khan and a fresh install of the OS would be the best bet.
Gurken Khan
@MarcusAureliu#s It wouldn't hurt if you'd upload your logs, per chance there's something in the hardware we can catch.

Nvidia has its own dedicated memory for graphics. also check if you are getting lag only in Multiplayer if so its not your problem, it's some other player with BAD PC.

Yeah, also other applications have started to become slow, 0 AD was the first place i noticed it. I get like 6 fps when loading into a single player 1v1 on lowest graphics settings ... Edit: Intrestingly using a different power cable caused a slight improvement Edited August 31, 2023 by MarcusAureliu#s

No, its not hot rn  It could be that ventalation is a problem. Make sure your laptop air vents are not obstructed (If possible.) Even still, heat can be a problem. You might want to check any heat sensors if possible. And no, I don't know how to do that on Windows 11. 22 hours ago, ShadowOfHassen said: I'd have to agree with @Gurken Khan and a fresh install of the OS would be the best bet. That's a rather extreme option. It's not always the easiest to replace everything on a computer OS. Case in point, I have yet to move Office 2016 from my Windows 8.1 to my Windows 10. leopard
20 hours ago, MarcusAureliu#s said: logs.zipHere are my logs @Gurken Khan @seeh @ShadowOfHassen @leopard Thank you for providing detailed information about your computer. Based on the provided logs, here are some potential reasons why your computer might be running slowly: Operating System: You are running Windows 11, which can be demanding on system resources. Ensure that your system meets the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11. Hardware Specifications: Your system has an Intel Core i5-4210H CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce 840M graphics card. While these components are decent, they may not be sufficient for running resource-intensive tasks smoothly. Consider upgrading your RAM and, if possible, your CPU for better performance. Video Driver: Make sure your NVIDIA video drivers are up-to-date. Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause performance issues. Background Processes: Check for unnecessary background processes and applications that might be consuming system resources. You can open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to view running processes and end any that are unnecessary. Disk Usage: High disk usage can slow down your computer. Ensure that you have enough free disk space on your hard drive. Consider using Windows' built-in disk cleanup tool to remove temporary files and free up space. Malware and Viruses: Perform a full system scan with a reputable antivirus program to rule out malware or viruses that could be causing performance issues. Startup Programs: Disable unnecessary startup programs. Many applications start with Windows, consuming resources. You can manage startup programs in the Task Manager or the System Configuration utility (msconfig). Graphics Settings: Lowering the resolution and graphics settings in games or resource-intensive applications can improve performance. Driver Updates: Ensure that all drivers, including chipset and network drivers, are up-to-date. BIOS Update: Check if there's a BIOS update available for your motherboard. Sometimes, BIOS updates can improve system stability and performance. Temperature: Overheating can cause performance throttling. Make sure your laptop is adequately cooled and clean from dust. Memory Configuration: It appears you have two memory modules. Ensure they are properly seated and recognized by the system. Misconfigured or faulty RAM can cause slowdowns. Background Services: Review and disable unnecessary Windows services that might be running in the background. SSD Upgrade: If your laptop doesn't already have an SSD, consider upgrading to one. SSDs provide a significant boost in performance compared to traditional HDDs. Software Bloat: Over time, software can accumulate on your computer. Uninstall programs and applications that you no longer use. Try these steps one by one and monitor your computer's performance after each change. This should help you identify and address the specific issue causing your computer to run slowly.
