  1. updating. It has been a bunch of these different things all together. It's not fixed completely. On top of the json stuff, which fixed two of ours, (x) was having the UDP problem and the json problem and that confused us. So, now we can play together but he can't host. It's all fine. thanks for your help, it really got us over the line. Much appreciated.
  2. sadly, no fix. all three of us found and deleted our .json files and tried again. When player (x) who still has problems has joined a hosted game he is left behind at match set-up screen until it eventually says, "connection lost" on top right of screen. There are no error messages to screen shot. Meanwhile, other 2 players enter game successfully and then see "(x) has left game". When player (x) hosts he can get into the game but no one else can follow and is disconnected when "start game" is pressed. No error messages - just "connection lost" It has been suggested that we show the logs but there are 6 different log files, 2 html, 1 .dat and 3 .txt I'm not sure which ones are useful and also, they are quite long. Should I upload everything from player (x)? There is no "Failed to connect to the server. UDP port 20595 not being forwarded" message. I remember having a UDP port issue years ago and it wouldn't let me enter the match set-up screen, but we are getting into that screen. We have tried complete uninstall and reinstall and have deleted .json files. (matchsettings.mp.json and matchsettings.json) Apologies for trouble and gratitude for any further suggestions.
  3. I am working with my friend currently, attempting to follow your instructions. It was happening differently depending on who hosted. The person having the problem can't join the game set-up. They appear visible to the host and other players but they get a "loading maps" message and then they just sit there stuck. Then we say he should try hosting and we join and we all get into the game set-up screen but the game kicks us when we press start game. If the instructions don't fix the problem I will attempt will test and then try to find those logs so that I can upload them here. Thank you so much for you time and suggestions.
  4. Strangest thing ... ... two of us were having the problem we solved here. all three of us downloaded and enabled community_mod. Now the one person who was not having that problem - which was probably caused by regicide - is now having the same problem after enabling the community mod. So, we uninstalled and reinstalled the community_mod and no .. no fix ... if he, the one now having the problem hosts we can get in to the game set up screen but it breaks when we try to start the game. edit: every time we start the game it says "connection is lost"
  5. I tend to play with people I know, while on the phone to them. Maybe I should make a point of playing a game here and there with randoms as a way of contributing to the game's life.
  6. Installing community_mod fixed the problem.
  7. Gurken khan and real_tabasco_sauce, Thank you. I will make a note of the Game Data Paths for future and not use the screenshot.. Thanks for the feedback. Doing the forums search instead of starting a new topic is better, yes. But you don't find anything if you don't really understand what you are asking for. Thank you for your patience.
  8. I am having a difficulty when trying to host a multiplayer match at the game lobby. Firstly, there is a settings problem but I don't understand the messages to know what it doesn't like. Here is a screenshot. Also, when the error messages disappear this screen persists and all I can do is use ALT-F4 to close the app. Strangly, it started happening to another of my little group of friends I play with and only one of us can host now. But we are also having trouble joining now. I am using Manjaro, my other mate having difficulties is on Apple. It might just be internet problems but the net seems like it's working in a browser. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling 0ad but it's not going back to factory settings because the Manjaro uninstall is not getting rid of some config file and I'll have to find it and delete it too. Just thought I'd see if any of you have some thoughts on these issues. I've not had them in the 13 years I've been playing this game. Thank you for your time and consideration.
  9. I was wrong. Just tested it but trying to help you helped me. Here, from start .... Download .zip and check that you "show hidden folders" in file manager Right click .zip Extract to... /home/snap/0ad/592/.local/share/0ad/mods restart 0ad look in "mod selection" under "settings"
  10. When you download a mod from the game it puts it in /home/snap/0ad/592/.local/share/0ad/mods I think you just drop the .zip in a folder for the mod there and put the mod.json file from inside the .zip, extracted, next to the .zip So, /home/snap/0ad/592/.local/share/0ad/mods/"name of mod"/ and that folder containing "name of mod".zip and mod.json Some mods work for me that way, I have had trouble.
  11. Chesnutter. I have been trying to work all this stuff out too. home/snap/0ad/592/.local/share/0ad/mods/user From the folder you are showing in the picture go to .. 592 check that nautilus is set to "show hidden folders" then go to .local/share/0ad and you will see the mods folder in there will be a folder titled user
  12. This is an amazing project. We have been having great fun playing with the alternate mechanics. I was going through this topic to see what discussion there has been about the earth pony siege trebs. They mess with rally points upon creation of units who all want to go to the trebs. Also, can't direct units anywhere within the range aura of the treb without them wanting to repair, but when I want to repair it can be difficult or impossible to right-click the target I want repaired. Something messy seems to be going on there.
  13. this is really impressive. what a lot of wonderful creative and technical work
  14. Your reply is the closest I've seen to an explanation of how the rating system works at all. Thanks for your corrections. I wonder if a problem with the rating system is that it is difficult to find a clear explanation about how it works and so some of us build on misconceptions.
  15. Has anyone seen a write-up that explains how ratings work? Why can someone who has played hundreds of games against good players have a rating lower than someone who has beaten his mate 10 times?
  16. If you can't see the line of red words saying "rated game" at the bottom right, when the game is getting set, then it isn't a rated game. Games don't have to be rated. The idea of ratings is really helpful because most of us like to see new players and want them to have a fair and fun experience. The best idea around ratings is to give us the opportunity to balance team games. It is no good putting 4 weak players against even 2 or 3 strong players. The problem is that it is not clear how the ratings work to achieve that. Someone might have played 10 games against their one mate and won seven of them and has a rating that is higher than someone who has played 243 games against some of the best players around and won 38.
  17. Thank you so much. I feel I have enough information now the examples are making more sense to me. I'll try a bit more before asking further questions. Thanks a million for helping out Maroder.
  18. Thank you. Where does the thumbnail go in that *.json? Like this? my_map_mod.zip |_____ mod.json __________art |preview_thumbnail.png __________maps |_________skirmishes |_____________my_map.xml |_____________my_map.pmp Also, Do I compress the directory as .zip and then just manually change the extention name to .json or are you saying to put the .json into a .zip? Trying to interpret your hierarchy
  19. I think it could be useful if the links on the topics for the vote linked to some sort of summary of the discussion, or at least of the argument for agreeing with each respective proposal. It looked like they merely showed the technical application of the alteration. Perhaps I missed something.
  20. tl/dr: Please help with simple instructions of how to make a map sharable. Perhaps some things are so simple that no one else needs to ask but all instructions I have found so far seem to open up new tangents and rabbit holes because of assumed knowledge. I understand that I need to make a .json compressed file but I am totally stuck. If someone has the time could they please explain in a step-by-step how to take a map I have made in Atlas map editor and make it sharable. I have dropped files into folders before in Linux and it has worked but my mate uses Mac OS and we can't work out where the folders are. The directory path offered in an instructional I found leads to a dead end and I tried making the folders but it didn't work. I would like to understand how to take a map and turn it into something that I can import using the OAD mod interface. Perhaps this is really simple but I just don't get it. Can you please take me from having the *.xml and *.pmp and take it from there?
  21. I wish I understood Bar Replay tool, or anything else in this comment, but my asking would probably just be frustrating for you.
  22. Thanks. It probably is. I appreciate that it seems like you know what I'm talking about. I still think it would be cool.
  23. I love watching replays and I really wish that I could have an overlay of the summary charts developing in real-time as I watch the replay. Does anyone else think this would be a useful way to add to the analysis of replays?
