  1. I'll celebrate it with friends A few years ago we celebrated it with my grandparents, and we brought the dog along, too. When the clock struck 12 and everyone started wishing each other new year, the dog sneaked to the table and started stealing all the meat
  2. Didn't we have like 2 of these threads already? Anyway, Maastricht, the Netherlands. Hopefully this time next year Groningen, the Netherlands.
  3. I think most of them quit. It were mainly modders, I seem to recall Weezul, Irish, SUD (both still here), Izzy, Bugman and others participating.
  4. Haha, our opponent has removed their pictures! Time for a new charge! Shiva, I think it was even longer than 1 year ago, probably 2 at least (remember, roMaximum was still active then, and he wasn't anymore a year ago). Most old WFGers seemed to have turned inactive since then, though
  5. Christopher Lee himself said he was not boycotting the movie, he just never went to see movies he performed in. He also wasn't on the theatrical releases of FotR and TT. Him not being on the RotK premiere was reported as him boycotting it, but he has denied that thus far.
  6. Oh, Empires is a decent game. I just dom't enjoy it as much as some other games. The only reason I will play it is because it has a good scenario editor.
  7. FAvourite and most played game is, without a doubt, AoK: TC. I did buy Empires, but I quit playing it a week ago and have no urge yet to return to it. Too bad
  8. History. I have so many books they don't fit onto the bookshelves anymore :-(
  9. I'm doing school simply because I want to go study history in university next year. I don't give a rat's @#$% about what grades I get. Most of the subjects are hardly interesting. As long as I can get my diploma, I'm pleased. And I want to study history so I can make my hobby into my job. I work for money, nothing else. And I design scenarios mainly to bring across a historic period to whoever plays the map. But I mainly design so I myself can reenact the past.
  10. I think the first movie I saw in the theatre was... hmm... Jungle Book? Not sure. It was a Disney movie, am pretty sure of that.
  11. A dog and a pigeon. When we were still living in Schiedam, we had 2 pigeons, a cage (room size) filled with birds (about 15 of them), 2 rats and a rabbit. Before we had the rats, we had desert rats, but those sucked since they were completely a-social and disliked all contact with anyone They also died rather fast. The real rats were much better, they liked sitting on your shoulder. That was cool, unless of course they left something behind on your shoulder
  12. Hmm, I'd go back to 1812 and watch Napoleon's entire Russian campaign. I would probably die halfway through, though Also, I'd go to my home city, Maastricht, and watch all of the 29 or so sieges it suffered, from beginning to end. Of course giving priority to the most important sieges: 1579, 1632, 1673, 1748, 1794. That would keep me busy for quite some time
  13. No royal blood, but I do have some noble blood. My grandmother from my mother's side descends from a noble Frisian family, and I descend through that line from the sister of a famous Frisian hero, Grute Pier (only Frisians know of him, though ) From my father's side I descend of a German family. Jan Bosch was a trumpeteer in the army of the Prince (presumably that of Saxony) who moved to the Netherlands in the early 1700s. His son Hendrik fought in the War of the Austrian Succession where he fought in many battles. The grandsons of Hendrik (not my direct lineage) fought in the Napoleonic Wars; one on Napoleon's side (where he ended up in the Imperial Guard), the other for the Brits (but he was captured by the French in 1799). A third son moved to Denmark; it is not known if he fought, as well. After that, my family hasn't been all that active, though one ancestor in the 1830s was involved in splitting up the church even more here, and another in WW 2 set up a camp for refugees to hide. However shortly before the war ended he was found out and executed.
  14. Isn't Sandra Bullock younger than Pamela Anderson? Also, personally I find her much more attractive than Pamela Anderson.
  15. People misspelling "Atheist". People putting "atheists" on a list of things they hate.
  16. Haha, Dutch beating Scotland with 6-0 was just a really really good trashing That should teach them Scots to stop boasting about 1-0 victories
  17. He didn't decide to give it back to them; he was besieging the Roman citizens who held out on Capitol Hill. They wouldn't surrender, so eventually they bought off Brennus with a lot of gold. Not that many Roman citizens died in his raid on Rome, since they had all fled to Capitol Hill the day before (when Brennus kicked Roman @#$% on the Allia, iirc). The Romans then fled back to Rome, leaving the gates open, but Brennus thought it was a trap so he didn't attack until the following day. Of course, there he had overestimated the Romans, as they just wanted to run to the safety of capitol hill Because of this, not only had the citizens time to flee, they also had time to take away quite a lot of their belongings so there wasn't much for the Celts to plunder. Anyway, I understand your Point of View now
  18. You cheer for 50 000 dead? Brennus should've sacked Rome.
  19. Well, pretty simple. I can either have a house on a small island with no company whatsoever, or I can have an attractive female to keep me company. Easy choice. It's not simply because she's female; it's simply because without company on a small island, you'd go nuts sooner or later, whether you have a house or not
  20. War of the Ring looked absolutely crap. I did not even consider getting the game just from the game screenshots/info, and after playing the demo this view was acknowledged.
  21. Btw, I think all the terms you translated are in proper version, only thing though is that I don't know if they were already used in the period of 0ad. Many, such as uchelwr, caer and teulu were in use in the middle ages, but I don't know if they were before then. Also, what map did you need? Might be able to help you to the right one.
  22. Cool Marcus, my sister was planning to study Egyptology in Leiden but then changed her mind to studying Comparative Indo-European Studies. Also pretty interesting. I myself will start a study of history at Groningen University next year, specialise in the medieval and early modern age (roughly 1200-1815 is my favourite period). What my actual job will be, no idea. Might become a journalist, or hopefully an academic job, ie writing books and such. I wouldn't want to be a high school teacher in any case. There's plenty of opportunities; apparently the government here also hires historians for a variety of jobs, most of which have nothing to do with history directly.
