  1. Personally I don't think an IQ test can be derived from a 40 questions questionaire. The other IQ test I've done always had at least 100 questions. I scored 126 this time; have scored better before. With these 40 questions, if you make one mistake, it probably takes off 10 points or something
  2. Yeah, I was a bit annoyed by that, myself That's just amateurish
  3. No, Marcus; Maastricht. But my sister lives in Leiden; this way I'll get to know more about her city than she!
  4. Oh, what map are you looking for? I have dozens of maps of Wales (mostly medieval though) and also one huge map of the British isles in the Roman period, listing all the locations of the various tribes + important cities and places where Roman stuff was excavated.
  5. I can I've been to Wales and I have a Welsh dictionary, too I read all this over in a short time, a few minor errors (ie: "Ritual of a Wickerwork Figure - filled with men (usually criminals and prisoners) - lit it on fire - done it times of plague, famine, invasion = horrified the Romans; ironically who were actively killing people for their entertainment in colluseums (sp?)") Which is incorrect; all we have is a description by Caesar about a wickerwork figure; there weren't any remains found of it, ever, and Caesar only describes it once. Whether it was a common practice is far from sure (it was never described as happening in Gaul) and exactly how many men were put into it and what background they had is totally unknown (so it's a bit silly to say that it's usually criminals and prisoners; we don't even know what standards the Celts had for measuring criminality and whether they had prisons at all). Also, never fully trust Osprey books. They sometimes make silly mistakes. For example "the Scottish and Welsh Wars" mentioned that Hastings happened on 10 October (should be 14) and "Crécy 1346" mixed up the positions of the Black Prince and the Earl of Northampton; "Dutch-Belgian Troops of the Napoleonic Wars" says the Dutch called Louis Bonaparte Ludwig (which is the German name, the Dutch called him Lodewijk), that the Austrian Netherlands was nowadays Belgium and the Spanish Netherlands nowadays Netherlands (actually the Spanish and Austrian Netherlands were the same area, mainly existing out of Belgium, but in different times. The Netherlands was known as the Republic of the Seven United Provinces). And I can go on. These errors are only obvious to people who know something about the history of that book already. So there may be dozens of other errors that neither you nor I will discover. This is the main reason why I trust my knowledge of history on books that don't rely on fancy pictures I only use Osprey books for arms and armour research nowadays, not for the events, motives, cultures, etc. And I trust tv channels such as Discovery Channel and National Geographic even less!
  6. I'm reading: Jacob van Maerlant: Spiegel Historiael (written in 1284 or thereabouts) Hans-Christian Huf: Mit Gottes Segen in die Hölle (about the Thirty Years War) Jonathan Israel: The Dutch Republic 1477-1806 Alan Palmer: Napoleon in Russia (several authors): Het Leids Ontzet; 3 Oktober 1574 (about the siege of Leiden and the legens surrounding it) J. B. Smith: Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, Prince of Wales Jansen: Geschiedenis van de Middeleeuwen (History of the Middle Ages). (several authors): Thans bonst het grof geschut (about the siege of Maastricht, 1748) Hella Haasse: Het woud der verwachting (the only novel on my list; it's about the French in the period 1390-1460).
  7. I didn't win that much outside the computer world, though I did once win a copy of James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl, by drawing a scary insect. That was when I was twelve. Also, with the school soccer competition I got a medal too, I think we ended up second or shared third or something (competition couldn't be finished because it started raining and lightning appeared )
  8. BlackHawk, funny, I got my dog (a Frisian Stabij) in Almen! Anyway, Maastricht, Limburg, Netherlands next year Groningen, Groningen, Netherlands.
  9. I live in the Netherlands, but not Holland. I live in Maastricht, Limburg, at the moment. I have lived in South Holland for 10 years, though, and I was born in Gelderland. Next year I'll probably move to Groningen (for university).
  10. I usually keep them to myself, though it depends on the problem. If it concerns my parents, too, of course I'll tell them as well - sooner or later. Though that is not always natural to me, as I'm a rather closed person.
  11. I visit Woad Creations, Empires Heaven, Heavengames Community forums, WFG, AoK Heaven, ScnNet, DGDN and Tsunami. I visit some other HG forums as well but not as often.
  12. Same with Woad. It seems that AoKH is still the best place to get new members (which would explain DGDN's growth) but many teams prefer to look at the future. At the moment the major teams seem to head for Empires, but the community seen there thus far isn't extremely big. Hopefully it will grow, though.
  13. In M:TW, my favourite unit would be either the longbowman, the hobilar or the pikeman. Hobilars are just great, overall the best light cavalry imo. Longbows can be devastating when used properly, and pikemen are just so cool. They can also be extremely effective, and they look neat with all the pikes In Empires: Dawn of the Modern World, my favourite unit thus far if the German Focke Wulf fighter. Beats a Spitfire one on one, very effective. I also keep them in the airport, group in different units, then take them out one of at a time to perform raids or fight off enemy attacks. Extremely deadly.
  14. Black Op, I meant to say: in M:TW on the battlefield all you had to care about were your troops (and those of the enemy ). In a game like 0ad and TLA you have to manage both troops and economy, and having to watch over your troops morale as well as keeping a close eye on economy will require a lot of micromanagement. Besides, since 0ad is Real Time non stop, and M:TW's RT battles were broken up by Turn Based strategy maps in between each battle, morale wasn't constantly affected (with a new battle, if your units had fled in the previous one, they were likely to have regained a bit of morale). In 0ad the game goes on, so "resetting" morale for the demoralised troops would be more difficult to do. Also, you could get the American Conquest effect: your troops are effected by losses, so once you've started losing, you'll need a lot of effort to get back on the road to victory.
  15. Medieval: Total War, I'm very good with the battles. I have won in the strangest conditions against rather impressive odds. Don't play multiplayer, though, so don't know how I'll fare against other humans (my last victory was of 320 vs 1500, won with only some 50 casualties on my side and killing more than 900 opponents (the rest fled)!
  16. I think they got morale just spot on in Medieval: Total War. When your units get too low a morale, for example if a commander or such dies, or they have lost many men, or the enemy holds the high ground, they might run. How quickly their morale drops is also influenced by their valour. A battle worn unit with lots of experience is less likely to rout than a bunch of raw recruits. When units run, they can be rallied (if the situation is somewhat rosy; they won't rally if they're being chased off the map by men trying to slice them into little bits!). This works very well for the Total War games, but I don't think it would work for 0ad. 0ad is an economics and battlefield reproduction, whereas M:TW is, in real time, only a battlefield game, which allows for more details into this particular aspect of the game. (I believe American Conquest also had morale, btw).
  17. I found out when the team was founded, I was already known to some of the members then. When RAW was being developed I contacted Wijit for some help with a chariot mod I was making, not sure if he can remember it He extracted the slps from AoE for me, I did the modding. It was pretty crappy, I seem to recall.
  18. Hm, I think the idea of having 0 0ads = ban is a bit silly; I still think the old "manual" banning is a better system. So a moderator can decide on a ban straight away without having to bother about the 0ad. Imo the 0ad you have should just show the respect you have in the community.
  19. I don't watch History Channel (Discovery Channel, so it's called here) nor National Geographic as usually they're biased and/or get all sorts of stuff incorrect. I prefer to trust on books that have been completed after years of research, than tv documentaries, which usually aim for the more spectacular subjects.
  20. I don't watch too much tv, but here's some of the programmes I do watch: Time Commanders - a show using the R:TW engine to simulate famous battles of the ancients. A team of 4 contestants gets to fight as one of the two sides in the battle, fighting vs the pc. They must plan their strategy and work together properly to win the battle, and that isn't easy. Thus far, two battles have been won and two lost. Very good, the R:TW engine is beautiful! I watch a whole lot of British detectives, like Dalziel and Pascoe, A touch of Frost, etc. It's a habit. They're also quite good, better than those revolver pulling coppers in many American detectives That's about it. I also watch plenty of British comedy series, like Only fools and horses, and Blackadder. Pity those aren't broadcast regularly.
  21. I'm still shown as a staff member, yet I resigned last week. Not that I don't want the honour, it's just that my title would then be a lie Can you change it to whatever is the standard? Thanks.
  22. We use the bike. No cars here. We do hire them sometimes, like when we're on holiday, for example.
