  1. The Sponsership Scandal gave everyone a bad taste for Liberals and this election was basically about shaking things up. Yet as you can see from the very small minority Conservative government people are not keen on Stephen Harper either. Mainly because they are afraid of his stance on privitization and being buddy-buddy with George Bush. If he had been in power in 2003 Canadian troops would have been in Iraq, which they very well might be anyway. But it won't be long before we have another vote with minority government
  2. Here is an overview of the election, with a list of the parties and their respective votes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_fede...lection%2C_2006
  3. I voted NDP simply because they have traditionally advocated for students like myself I'm glad that we have a minority Con government, since it limits their ability to go crazy with their policies. Even so I have absolutely no faith in Stephen Harper's ability to lead the country. And we will have another election in a year or two.
  4. Perhaps, but when you have an Arda project in production concurrent with 0 AD it defeats the purpose somewhat In addition I think we can expect the following mods: Napoleaonic War Trojan War WWI and II Samurai Era

  6. Super units will be able to switch between two weapons, each type with its own capabilities and drawbacks. As for the second weapons on many of the concepts, they are purely decorative on standard units

  8. On this day, December 18, in 218 BC, the great Carthaginian general Hannibal Barca defeated a Roman army of 45,000 men under the command of Titus Sempronius Longus. 2223 years ago today the first major battle of the titanic Second Punic War was fought. The outcome of the war determined future history, literally. Besides the Persian War, perhaps no other conflict in the history of mankind has the victory of one side so radically changed the course of events. For without Roman victory, that nation would not have gone onto conquer the known world. Without Roman domination the writings of the Greeks might well have been lost, the great leaps in technology under Roman rule might not have happened, Europe would have remained under the control of the Celts and Germans, ignorant of the great knowledge cultivated along the Mediterranean. Through Roman victory the Muslim civilizations were able to copy writings on science, art, history, and medicine, without which the Renaissance would never have happened, and therefore the industrial revolution and our modern world. http://wildfiregames.com/0ad/page.php?p=1500 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Trebia http://www.barca.fsnet.co.uk/trebbia.htm

  11. The Persians already had the mixed arm force concept down before Alexander invaded, and it was developed internally. When they conquered new people they were forced to implement the new troops and weapons into their army. Alexander was able to achieve a level of teamwork between his arms that the Persians did not, but that said the Persians were far from weaklings. As for the massive Persian armies, the numbers were meant to scare the enemy. Persian kings preferred to scare an enemy into surrender or a negotiated settlement rather than fight. The biggest bargaining chip possible is the presumed imminent threat of total annihilation, hence a massive army of sometimes hundreds of thousands of men. It could also be argued that if the Persians had focused more heavily on horse archery the Macedonian phalanx could be defeated. But by relying on javelins the Persian cavalry was vulnerable to attack from Macedonian heavy horsemen. Plus hoplite warfare was big in Italy for 200 years before Alexander thanks to the colonization of the Greeks.
  12. Absolutely, but since mitochondrial DNA only tracks females, males can only be tracked through Y-chromosomes, which links me (and all others) to Eurasian Adam roughly 31,000 to 79,000 years ago in Ethiopia. The results I received shows the movement from Ethiopia, to the Middle East, to Central Europe. I highly recommend that everyone give the project a try Very cool to see where you come from.
  13. Got my results from the National Genographic Project today: https://www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/index.html I'm a member of Haplogroup I, with genetic marker M170, mostly found in the Balkans (I'm a Croat ). Roughly 20,000 years ago my ancestors settled in modern day Bulgaria and Romania and began spreading out from there. Eventually they spread north into parts of Germany, Scandanavia (sp?), and the Ukraine. It is believed that a tribe of Sarmatians took over a people known as the Horovathos in Ukraine during the 4th century AD. The two merged, with the new name of the people being Hravatski (Croats). Since my DNA is shown to have no link to Afghanistan (where the Horovathos originate) it is more probable that my ancestors were Illyrians who resided in Croatia from approximately 1000 BC or Sarmatians in the Ukraine before the Horovathos arrived. So either way its pretty cool
