  1. True, but how do you keep the French from attacking the Brits, or any other Allied nation. My way is simpler. You start off as either a member of the Central Powers (A-H, Germany, with Turks as later) or as a member of the Allies (Britain, France, Russia with Italy as later). Basically it will be like an offshoot system. eg. Allies @ stage1: Britain, France, Russia @ stage2: Italy, Importing troops for the other (Brits get Canadians and Aussies), @ stage3: America, (R&D)
  2. No, I think it would ok. You wouldn't have the same selection of factions (in fact I'd just go with the two), but in terms of strategy there are so many options. Mr. Black and draugaer are right. It would be a bit boring. But with the rushing and the grand offensives, it could make an f***ing brilliant RTS. Plus there would be tanks and aeroplanes which keep spontaneously exploding!
  3. Ok then... Who here can model, code or draw??!? (And isn't already busy)
  4. They don't want every little thing to be 100% correct. Just 99.98%.
  5. They considered themselves Roman until after the rise of Charlemagne, and the snob that the Vatican gave them. In depth, during Belisarius' conquest of southern Italy (for the record it was not just him conquering at this point) he was ordered not to take Rome, on the orders more or less of Rome. Despite the amount of time that passed the Vatican never really accepted Byzantium as New Rome. Later on (some five centuries later) during Charlemagnes conquests he managed to take all of northern Italy under a catholic banner. The Pope liked this and declared the Germano-Franc Nation he had the Holy-Roman Empire, which was a direct snub to the Byzantines.
  6. You mean like the 'caves' of AoE 3, which where really just sprites/models which where semi-transperant and gave the appearance of a cave without actually being 3D.
  7. If you knew what was happening to Halo Wars you'd be worried too. We're talking Inexhaustible (It doesn't even overheat) Weapons on the other side (Covvies), punching Mechs (Horrible Idea), and Spartans on a Converted Resource Ship (WTF)...
  8. No you said that the Byzantines where basically Greek Romans. They where not.
  9. The Byzantines where as you said just Greeks who took the Mantle of "Eastern Romans" or "New Romans" a little before Rome fell. Realistically the Byzantines were a culture very different from Romes. The Religion: Different, The Military: Different (in a lot of ways), Language: Different and Legacy: Very Different. All in all the Byzantines are so very different. They even called themselves: "Basileia ton Rhomiaon" (or something like that)
  10. The Ottomans didn't really dissociate themselves from the Seljuk Turks until sometime in the 13th Century (the actual date escapes me). Either way the mod could simplify itself by have a Turkic Faction which then splits up into the majority of the Euroasian Cultures. Again, Alex this is a mod. Either way you where still a ways off.
  11. Alex, this is a mod. It's not 0AD, it does not share it's settting. It is a medieval modification.
  12. Actually the FORT-ifications are what makes a fort. Technically you don't have to have... anything in a fort, you just need to have walls surrounding it. I am really against abolishing the stack train thingy, personally I find having ten barracks four archery ranges the most tedious and micro intensive thing ever.
  13. If AoE wants to go somewhere no-one who makes RTS's they should have 4 as WW1. Of course I have no doubts it'll be second age/epoch with WW2 as third age. Ensemble Studios
  14. I think Rome and Persia. DIE YOU GREEK/CARTHAGINIAN SCUM
  15. Internet Cafe. On topic now, I gotta say, after playing a 3rd person RPG like Sacred I'm not going to wild when D3 comes out. Maybe when FO3 comes out but 'til then I'm going to stick with Mount and Blade and Oblivion (no linky here 'cos who doesn't know Oblivion).
  16. Thats even true in Australia. I don't know if this happens everywhere else, but in the east (where I live) we hate those darn westerners. All 5 of them. We also hate Tasmanians and New Zealanders. Not forgetting English.
  17. In addition it is freeware. Not to mention that NO-ONE owns history
  18. If they do remake AoE1 it will almost certainly share certain features with AoE 3/AoM. In fact if it doesn't run on a very similar engine it will be a major surprise for me.
  19. Once again, shame about SH2... and for that matter SH:L Which reminds me. Celts in AOE1... wtf? and what makes you think AoE IV won't be AoE 1 v2
  20. @ mythic: try the 0AD testing? thread
  21. Linux is supported and I am fairly certain that higher resolutions are supported. This is the archived newspost.
  22. I'm lucky enough to have a friend who is a modeller. They made the switch from 3Dsmax, and gave me their new version.
