  4. It would be better to have the input from an artist ( @Enrique, @LordGood, @Pureon maybe?). They're both quite occupied so if they don't answer within a week or so I'll commit this new version myself. I really like it, but I have zero knowledge in what makes a good piece of art!

  7. Well this is obviously a big liberty I took, but it sounds better than "[was] looking like intelligence". Grammatically that would be possible but I can't find a meaningful translation with this hypothesis. Maybe we're missing more words That's right. But the problem is rather that we have to find an artist able to replace that inscription. The one who created this background is long gone, and I don't think we have any WIP version with a pillar without inscription. Anyhow, I don't think anyone will be really bothered by that. I personally am a huge fan of Ancient Greek inscriptions and I love translating them, but in nearly three years of opening 0 A.D. daily it never occured to me to take a look at the meaning of this phrase
  8. I just tried to translate this and couldn't manage to do anything either... I think the original sentence was cut at the wrong place Εικος is the neutral form of εικως, which is a perfect participle of a defective verb. For this verb, the perfect has the value of a present, and it means "looking like" or "suitable". If it's the former it would call the dative, which would explain "γνωμῃ" and would mean "looking like intelligence", "looking like spirit". I would translate the whole thing as "clever" or "smart", but it's a nominative and there is no neutral nominative substantive in the sentence. "λογων ενεκα Εφεσιων και των αλλων Ιωνων" should be "because of the words of Ephesians and other Ionians", I think placing "ενεκα" inside was done on purpose, to stress the fact that Ephesians themselves made speeches. There is nothing that explains that "Ποντικον στρατον" is an accusative, but it does mean "an army from the Pontus". So my guess would be that we lost a couple of words. I have a suggestion, if we just add "Το συλλεγειν" at the beginning, we have our neutral nominative and the infinitive calls the accusative. The sentence then suddenly makes sense and becomes "The fact of raising an army from the Pontus, based on reports from Ephesians and other Ionians, [was] apparently clever". Of course this is just speculation

  13. Oh, and I forgot to add to Loki's answer that you can indeed fork our GitHub repo at https://github.com/0ad/0ad if you prefer working over git. We are ok with reviewing your work on git branches as long as you create tickets on Trac, then create a patch for SVN when it's ready.
  14. Hi aeonios and welcome! feneur already answered about how to start contributing, so that's less work for me. It would be awesome to have you working on graphics: currently there is nobody really working on that. We're absolutely interested in any proposal you can make (the things you listed above sound really promizing)! Chatting on IRC really is the easiest way to get in touch with us developers, and we can answer questions you can have about the codebase. Thanks for your interest!
  15. It's really not that no one bothers, but nobody in the team is a "faction improver" anymore. So we only work on this when there is a big breaking issue, else it just distracts us from very important programming stuff. But when we have more time we will finish this faction and polish the others, and we will try to pick the good elements in the overhaul/balance/new content mods like Delenda Est, in the topics like this one, etc.

  17. I'm OK with trusting you but having the input of a native speaker would be nicer: maybe penalty is closer to the word in your language? In French we would use Malus actually, but that's because we have a Roman language.
  18. Well native speakers should give their opinion, because for others the game should be translated... If the wording is ok for native speakers we don't have any reason to change, we're not Simple English Wikipedia after all
  19. I think 1) is about AOM (and possibly other games) where you just build walls, they're wood ones, and then you upgrade them to have stone walls. So the answer is: it's not the design we chose, and the AOM way is less realistic (upgrading walls is not something you would actually do). 3) No it's not a design decision, this is something we would like to fix. But the automatic chopping sounds really complicated, we'd rather exclude the wood zone and let the player deal with it.
  20. Those phrases look really nice! They have a lot of historical flavor, so it's great. However, the unit phrases have to be short, because they will be cut each time you give a new order. Some of your phrases would be awesome in the game loading screen, along with other quotes! What do you think?
  21. I find it really nice I feel like the island is not so much more resourceful than the rest of the map, maybe it's possible to make it more attractive? And I got Athenian soldiers with the Maurya so I think you made a mistake with skirmish entities

  23. Do you have a commands.txt? (see GameDataPaths if you don't know where to find it)
  24. Well, there is a reason: they have infinitly more resources than we do (money, especially), which also explains why you're getting 0A.D. for free... Or maybe you don't pay for those games either which would explain things. We value your input but your post is written in a way that makes it unacceptable, so we're just going to ignore it instead of balancing those "ridiculous" bugs (congrats!)
  25. I don't understand the usual request about going to Steam: as a player, I absolutely HATE the auto-update system for instance, because I can't choose when to do an update (which breaks all my savegames, possibly other critical things too because it's an alpha)
