  1. lol I dont know why I was using plaster texture on the crenelations of course they look stupid
  2. Alrighty, thanks for the feedback guys! so I did a few tweaks here and there, made segment a bit longer, squashed the stripes a bit, and made the tower about 20% cool- uh... taller. I messed with the merlons a little too
  3. Thanks! I still need to tweak the short segment, do the medium segment and the long one, after that we have the market, military settlement, dock, corral, wonder, library, and last but definitely not least, the lighthouse
  4. when you slow down the simulation, you realize just how deadly your towers and fortresses are pew pew! so using the Persian wall segments for size is leaving gaps, maybe because I'm using the Carthaginian walls for a template and Carthage's walls are enormous. Maybe it's because I'm using slope towers too, that could be it. This civilization is going to be a boatload of fun I can already tell.
  5. Any other glaring issues when it comes to the turret? I don't want to rush the city walls without my team. I'd probably get shot a few times.
  6. But they feel so warm and cozy! lol yeah, I have to agree, side by side with the other faction buildings it becomes painfully apparent ...or maybe I'm just not using them right :/
  7. Eastern Oman, so right smack dab in between Egypt and India xp
  8. Thanks Micheal's reference image is of Sunaysilah Castle, which is both out of chronological and regional context (reconstruction of a middle eastern castle). If I had to venture a guess it would be closer to Indian medieval than Egyptian antiquity. Plus making the crenels taller would dwarf the entryway, I did give that a go. Ancient Egyptian wall reliefs depict relatively shallow crenelated walls.
  9. Revised the barracks took out trussed railings and replaced them with the simple wooded ones similar to those on the tower. Added more merlons. Remapped merlons EDIT: remapped that one dark railing in the big window, file is updated ptol_barracks_3.5.zip
  10. lol thanks xP I'll totally whiff the Macedonian thing, but you better believe when it comes to castles I do my research! ahaha Being the native barracks I'd want to keep external influence as minimal as possible. A railing seemed the least intrusive. If nothing else, I'll probably just scrap the railing and be done with it. Maybe use some of the polys I save in the process to compact the crenellations too, if that sounds like a good strategy at this point. Which leaves the wall concepts I left, do you think the heavily stylized or the more old-timey Egyptian fortifications work better for the Ptolemies?
  11. I was planning on carrying them over to the walls too; perhaps the relationship would make the ones on the barracks a bit less conspicuous
  12. I did a little background reading from here on my own time. It's out of time frame, but from the Old-New kingdom Egypt, so architectural style would have been established by the Ptolemaic kingdom. Rounded merlons seem to be historically, or at least regionally accurate (tomb paintings and such depict round merlons) they are smaller and more tightly packed from what I've seen on tomb paintings, but that might have a bit of a heavy impact on tris Railings were my attempt to slightly 'Romanize' the building
  13. Does this one fit the bill, or should I try the other concept? or should I give the walls a go?
  14. Excellent! I'll get on it this weekend How do you guys feel about semicircular merlons? I'd like to switch it up with the Egyptian crenellations so we dont only have stepped and rectangular ones throughout.
  15. Sounds like a plan! Here's two concepts
  16. Are you planning on adding hieroglyphs to the barracks Enrique? I think it would look pretty nice. Most of the other important buildings do, after all. Maybe that's why WhiteTreePaladin thought it looked a bit pale I'd love to see it in context with the other buildings too
  17. lmao, I had no idea you were already working on one xP you usually ask me to do the barracks! I like the solidity of yours, it fits much better with the more prominent buildings, but I feel like mine is more of a 'poor man's barracks'
  18. oh that wasn't an optical effect, that second floor was most definitely squashed xP super squashed, you see those doors that lead out to the balcony? lol Glad you caught that did a few edits and whatnot EDIT: uh, small oversight. The garrison flag prop point is floating now. I raised the second floor then compacted the building a tiny bit and forgot all about the empty xP ptol_barracks_2.zip
  19. ah I know I said I wouldnt but I just got back from class. I have a little more time. Cannibalized the Carthaginian barracks template too, so none of that stumbling around the actor editor anymore ah, almost forgot this, finally got rid of those annoying black bars
  20. I'm pretty sure we are in dire need of animators at the moment, and there's something iffy with the model skeletons or something, outdated, wont import or something or other. I'm not sure, I can't animate yet. But I'm sure new animations are on the to do list
