  1. i like how you write about programming: it sounds very epic, a struggle between various aspects
  2. maybe here you can find some info http://wildfiregames...page.php?p=1492
  3. sure, and probably sometimes reviewing patches is more difficult than write new code :-)
  4. if you love technical language http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/930#comment:10

  7. well... bartering, saved games and multiplayer reconnection will be very big features added to alpha 8
  8. the roadmap says november 5th, but is only an approximate date, even if Wildfire guys usually are very precise
  9. it seems Alpha 8 will be a release dedicated to remove bugs rather than add major features... and this isn't a critic... probably next release will be very enjoyable playing against jubot/splitbot/qbot ai
  10. wind could modify the range, not the accuracy
  11. totally agree... even if 0 AD isn't a realistic simulator of ancient warfare, these 3 aspects was fundamental. Many battles were decided by one of these aspects. Others aspects are more strategic than psycological: height: the capture of the top of a hill was decisiveposition of the sun: fight in front of the sun was a great disadvantagedirection and strenght of the wind: especially for archers and siege machinesregularity of the battle field: compact formations like greek phalanx or roman testudo didn't like irregularity of the terrain, because break their formationswidth of the battle field: squadrons of cavalry need wide and open battle fields to operate bettertemperature: one tactic that romans used against celts was to let tired celts with their chaotic assaults, because celts suffer warm temperature
  12. maybe the ground view is not very useful, but it would be very cool, when skies will be implemented
  13. i have two requests for the camera control 1) could it be possible to have a more cinematic zoom for the camera? Let me explain: now when you zoom in or zoom out, the camera angle with the ground remains constant. I'd like to change this angle during the zoom, setting two steps (initial and final) or three steps (inital, middle, final) for the angle. For example, one could set the final angle (max zoom in) to a lower value, to have a wide view of the horizon. 2) now when you zoom in, the camera zooms toward the center of the screen, even if the mouse pointer is not centered. I'd like to have a zoom that follow the position of the mouse pointer, like google maps
  14. for something late roman / byzantinian, look also the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia.
  15. we shouldn't speak of a celtic empire, because there wasn't a centralized power, and every tribe was indipendent from others. In many circumstances, after moving in new territories, they lived in peace with natives. And yes, celts and gauls was the same thing, and celts didn't called themself celts or gauls, because they called themself with tribe name. They shared the same culture, but with obvious differences from location to location. Also Galatians, that dominated inner Turkey for two centuries, were 3 celtic tribes: Tectosages, Tolistobogii and Trocmi. I'm reading a book on celts written by Venceslas Kruta
  16. with my proposal nobody can kill them : they grow and became soldiers/women with their original civ or with the civ that take them as hostages
  17. maybe children could be taken as hostages, and, if they are not rescued from their original civ, as time goes they become soldiers and women of the other civ, but mantaining properties of the original civ
  18. and there is also an Iberian gameplay part 2
  19. other recent videos, but for alpha 6: [Edit: it's very difficult post more than 2 media links with this forum ]
  20. from http://portableapps.com/about/what_is_a_portable_app Portable App Definition A portable app is a computer program that you can carry around with you on a portable device and use on any Windows computer. When your USB flash drive, portable hard drive, iPod or other portable device is plugged in, you have access to your software and personal data just as you would on your own PC. And when you unplug the device, none of your personal data is left behind. No Special Hardware - Use any USB flash drive, portable hard drive, iPod/MP3 player, etc No Additional Software - Just download, run the portable installer and go No Kidding - It's that easy
  21. totally agree! It's necessary to have a strategic control of the map. you have anticipated me
  22. it seems the next civilization that will be introduced is the persian, so my suggestions are: Haxâmanishiya: old Persian for Achaemenid, known as the first Persian Empire, expanding to eventually rule over significant portions of the ancient world which at around 500 BCE stretched from the Indus Valley in the east, to Thrace and Macedon on the northeastern border of Greece . The Achaemenid Empire would eventually control Egypt, encompassing some 1,000,000 square miles (2,600,000 km2) unified by a complex network of roads and, ruled by monarchs, to become the greatest empire the world had yet seen. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achaemenid_Empire)Hagmatana: old Persian name of Ecbatana, one of the most important cities of the persian empire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecbatana, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamadan)
  23. Do you know Civilization 4 and his help system Civilopedia? There's a modified Civilopedia called Sevopedia that could be of inspiration: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=148253 It's very practical and fast to navigate
  24. hi, the description layer for some Heroes in the History section of main menu is too tall for a 1366x768 screen resolution, for example for Celt Kunobelinos and Boudicca and for greek Xenophon. To replicate: from main menu go to History and choose the Celt civilization. move the mouse over the information point of a hero like Kunobelinos and Boudicca
