Prettified selection rings
Pedro Falcão replied to vts's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
I don't know anything about graphic stuff, but i was wondering if there isn't some way to calculate how the circles should be positioned on the ground and just throw it on the screen at the correct (pixels?) location? Please don't pay much attention to this post, as i'm totally layman on this subject. -
Most Hardcore Groups in History

Yeah, the romans, who used to send slaves to their deaths in arenas were amateurs compared to Assyrians... When assyrian soldiers were bored, they'd get some prisoners, make them sit in a "special" chair, introduct a sharp stick on their anus and watch them bleeding to death! You have to admit: these are really sadistics! -
Suggestions from an AOE/Starcraft player
Pedro Falcão replied to Inazuma's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, that's what i'm talking about, mythos. In 0 A.D. you have to send a large attacking force or siege units to end the game, not like SC2, where you can destroy a mighty "planetary defense" with just 2 soldiers in a very short time. Also, comparing to AoK, SC2's maps are too tiny, in matters of 30 seconds you can cross all the map with a basic worker, meanwhile in AoK you could take 1 minute and a half to cross the map with a paladin (a very fast unit). Tiny maps are good for attackers, as close buildings increase the rallying time of the defender's troops. I'm not wishing a fast game to take 40 minutes (that was the average for a game with balanced player-skill, in AoK), but they shouldn't be too fast, either. -

Really? I always thought B.C. was "Before Christ" and A.D. was "After Death"... But i agree with you, it's more natural for us (Brasil) to say "zɛroʊ ə deɪ", especially for the older people who hadn't much contact with english. -

I've had problem with villagers' speed while hunting, once the villager had to run through to the other corner of the map just because he wasn't fast enough or strong enough to kill the animals faster. Besides some of these speed changes, i strongly disagree with the other suggestions, imo 0AD should have the RTS style adapted to the historical background, and NOT the historical background adapted to the RTS style. Blizzard made Starcraft 2 in a way the matches are too fast, focusing more the graphics than the game itself (unlike AoK), that's okay for competitions, where you really want to end it as fast as possible with the skill of the players, but it's not okay for campaigns, where you want the battles more balanced, to enjoy the other aspects of the game (i, personally, hate when they destroy my barracks with just 2 hits!). -
Any medium to expert aom players?
Pedro Falcão replied to edwardlongshank's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
My time of playing AoM was 8 years ago, so i'm a trash on it now, but i'm sure you'll find some people in those multiplayer gaming communities, like Garena, even though this one doesn't support AoM. -
I'd not live in any of these countries listed, but of them, Israel is the most reasonable. Japan is a good country, but as said some posts above, its economy is stagnant (plus i heard there is some xenophoby there). Most of Computer Science Professors around here lived in Germany during Ph.D. and liked very much, i'd not live further north, too cold for a guy who always lived above 20°C (68°F)!

Games similar to AOM?

I still have Settlers 2 here and i found it funnier than the third. Well, if you want to play online, Starcraft 2 mods are your option, since its editor is the most powerful and easy to use of the games industry, you can customize unit names, stats, function, create new units with 3D Studio Max... Have a try at Populous' single player, it is very fun still, if you like, you could try out the Black and White series, wich is a game far different of AoM, but it is still a RTS (You're literally a god and have to win the population below's faith and use them against your rival god). -

what about Alt+click for choosing ranks instead of unit types? -
This could be very handy to easy wood consumption, which was great, the last time i played the celts

Games similar to AOM?
Pedro Falcão replied to edwardlongshank's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
I have Stronghold 1 here and i found it hard to learn to play, bad graphics, limited... I didn't liked it. Populous 3 (official name is "Populous: the Begining", the first for PC) is very better, if you want to compare. The graphics, now, are very ugly, but the game itself is very cool. -

These last years, the game industry focused on facebook and RPGs, so there aren't many new good RTSs. If you don't mind to play old (but good) RTSs, then i can recommend you Warcraft 3, Empire Earth 3, Age of Empires 3, Starcraft 2, Rise of Nations and Rise of Legends, Command & Conquer 3, Alexander and Battle for the Middle Earth 2. If you want Turn-Based Strategy, then play "Heroes of Might and Magic" III or V or "Civilization V", both are very good games, you won't regret. -
Besides the cannon, i liked the design of the tower... The persian buildings make me remember both babylonians from the first AoE and the Saracens from AoK, i liked it!
-
A cannon so soon? If i'm not mistaken, cannons were only invented at the end of the medieval age, with the fall of Constantinople by the Otomans (who built the biggest cannon ever, thus far) marking the actual end of it.

I strongly agree with all you put there, kephra, but let's consider the limitations of the embassies in a skirmish play, it seems like we will have them just in campaigns. Isn't it, Mythos?

έπεφτε βαθιά σιωπή

It's very different of what i initially imagined it to be... My thanks, Giorgos! -
Welcome, Lion, nice to have other latin-americans around here...
-
I noticed it too
-
I just had an idea: Why not, in skirmishes, let the player pick the religion they want, each one with unique bonuses for the player? It would increase the player's freedom. Also i think the heroes are too "secondary", at least in skirmishes they could advance some levels, like the normal units, and choose which skill to learn...

Hi, guys, if there's some1 who can understand it, i'm puzzled about this music. It was theme of the greek Nikos in a Brasilian's TV novel. I tried to translate it using google, but it is a lot fuzzy, i couldn't understand it. So, please, translate it for me!

Hey, guys, look at this video. Paula Fernandes (feat. Victor & Leo) singing "Não Precisa" (No Need, in English). This girl is hot, has a great voice and nice music. Her style is called "Sertanejo". I experienced problems by having other games at the Program Files folder, some games couldn't even save! So i'm installing every game i own in a folder specific for them. -
Take it easy, boy! Altough i agree that all your suggestions are really exciting and some will even come into the game, the developers can't implement them all because of the time they have. The development of a game musn't endure much because of the loss of interest (and hope) from the fans and even for developers, so don't be too excited, some of these ideas may not come into the game. But anyway, nice ideas.

Unit And Building Names
Pedro Falcão replied to Davarish's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
i read at wikipedia that some iberian words started with "p" where most celtic words started with a vowel. For instance, the celtic word "orcom" (that means pig), in iberian was written (and spoken) "porcom" (coincidence or not, in portuguese, the word for pig is "porco", and "puerco" for spanish).
