  1. So here is what happened yesterday: We deploy changes to the lobby using Infrastructure-as-Code (the code for that is available at https://github.com/0ad/lobby-infrastructure/). Applying changes yesterday included a value for an XMPP MUC room option as a boolean (true) in our YAML configuration. That got converted by Ansible into a Python boolean (True) and when applying it to a string (True). As you might notice that changed the capitalization. While ejabberd (the XMPP server we're using) accepted that value, it doesn't support capitalized booleans and hell broke loose when a code path accessing such a configuration option got executed. For one option (like: "ejabberdctl room conference.host logging True") this does cause the XMPP MUC room the option got applied for to get completely deleted immediately. This resulted in the lobby not being available anymore. Debugging what happened took some time. As a workaround we're now passing the configuration values as strings in the first place, which ensures the capitalization stays as desired and doesn't trigger that behavior anymore. I've also opened a bug report for ejabberd, so hopefully it won't be possible in future anymore to set such invalid options: https://github.com/processone/ejabberd/issues/4337.

  2. afaik, running is just used for fleeing and for getting into formation. Acceleration is how quickly the unit gets to its top speed. I think the numbers are in m/s and m/s^2. i suppose you could make the speeds and accelerations realistic.

  3. The concern is also to put the best possible face forward with each release, not to maintain legacy stuff just for bulk content, if you know what I mean. To improve the average quality of the game and keep it high.

  4. why not instead just improve the maps without removing them first? We can certainly remove truly redundant maps. If the concern is bloat and excess options confusing players, then a "quick play" option might be good with a pool of the maps and other options made more streamlined. This could be the basis for a ranked mode too.

  5. This must be repeated everywhere, even within the game itself.

  6. Would people be more opening to cutting back the number of maps for Release 28 if I strongly emphasize that this would be a temporary thing? Because then each release after that would include more of the excluded maps back in, this time much improved and held up to a common standard.

  7. Lol, I actually used the search engine but now it has artificial intelligence. But that's was a teaser campaign definition. But if we want to know how to make a teaser campaign. In Spanish it is called "campaƱa de revelaciĆ³n". https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/what-is-teaser-campaign https://www.canva.com/learn/10-tactics-for-launching-a-product-using-social-media/ Teaser campaign is good for new product launches, entertainment like new movies and video games. When I learned it, the hashtags were not popular.(They barely existed that was back in the distant 2007). It always starts with an image that appeals to curiosity without revealing what it is about. Even though we only have one product, it wouldn't be so mysterious if it was 0 AD. But a new release and new features could create an expectation. A loading bar would work well. Teaser trailers are often used.

  8. Missing a few years ago and old players. Our time was spent having fun, without personal attacks or anything like that. I've been online since the first lobby, where there were a maximum of 10 players, and I've been present in all subsequent versions, and I can say with certainty that this is the worst generation of players 0 AD. You've managed to divide a super small community into small groups that hate each other. Moderation was never necessary for things to go according to the rules, the fact now is that most of you are rude and can't follow the minimum required conduct. Anyway... I won't go on here, I don't usually share this type of topic, but I thought it was necessary this time. Hugs to everyone and a great year ahead.

  9. The pikemen reference comes from the Cherusci Chatti, not a suebian tribe. EB2 is kinda falling for the same trouble than other games, filling the gaps in knowledge with other references from other tribes and other time-frames. Here:
