  1. So, we had our meeting yesterday evening. There were niektb, DarcReaver and myself, and Stan and Scynthetwhirler (I would never write his name twice identically) as spectators. The general vision was split on four topics during the week and we got more details about each one. The limit of historical accuracy in 0 A.D. We told about civilisations, unit roles, learning historical things and complex things that cannot be implemented or would be not enjoyable in an RTS game. Winning a battle and planning them There were much things said upon this topic, about forming an army, deploying it, massing, use of terrain, scouting, micro and macro, techs, orders, formations, battalions, train time... But to get the general principle somewhat in a hurry. Building Cities This point revolved arount building smartly, holding resources, defending and weaknesses, offense/defense/eco civs... Again to get the general principle behind that. Next meeting Next meeting is scheduled on sunday 21:00. The last point about evolution of a game through time was postponed to this next meeting.

  2. Hm, yes. Would be great if somebody would help with coding. Some more UV unwrapping and detail-work on the high poly model:

  3. Why can't the battalions do this automattically? If you arrange your battalions, then select all of them and send them somewhere, they they should end up in same configuration automaticcally.

  4. I would lean towards Syllepsis, because I'm afraid people would think we added a new Semitic faction if we go with Semitae.

  5. Just wanted to mention some pathfinding issues. I know it's a long process, and really appreciate the working being done. 1. Units get stuck trying to drop off resources at the edge of a building. This seems to be mostly fixed. Haven't had this issue in a long time. 2. Units ignore movement orders. (The reintroduction of formations has allowed this to affect groups of units rather than just single large units.) This happens many times during a match and interferes with enjoyment of the game. It occurs with larger units like rams and lately has begun to affect formations of units. 3. Units sometimes ignore impassable terrain and structures. (This started fairly recently.) This includes units sailing over mountains and walking through structures. On rarer occasions, ships even move around on land.

  7. Ok, another tiny progress report. Finally, I finished unwrapping the main part of the high poly model. Here is how the model looks like (including a few very tiny changes): Now onto getting a nice version for the game engine So, first part of the low poly model are the rows. Here is a comparison between the high quality model (back, 148 faces, 296 tris), the early, placeholder low poly version (middle, 18 faces, 26 tris) and the new low poly version (front, 12 faces, 20 tris): And after some baking, the new one starts to look passable for its poly-count :

  8. I'm pretty sure I encountered the issue with rams and formation groups in the attached commands.txt. It wasn't the worse case of it that I've had, but it did happen repeatedly. (Had to rename metadata.json to get it to upload.) commands.txt metadata_json.txt I don't remember the revision, but it would have been whatever was current on the Git repo this past Sunday (27th) afternoon (3:00 or so).

  10. Why would someone want to do that anyways? You need to micro your troops individually to make them have the biggest effect by making them attack their counters, move them around to avoid unnecessary damage etc. Just A-clicking a group of units into the enemy city isn't really what RTS is about.

  11. +1 for Syllepsis also, the word isn't confusing, nor religious which is nice.

  12. Hi! I just found this discussion, so I put together some ideas for the banners. I would like to have a nice image of a soldier (on a transparent background) to put on the left of the larger one especially. Let me know what you think! I am looking forward to seeing the updated box art image, too! --Brynn
