  1. Agree with Jonathan, best of luck, and yeah, ask questions, and if you have time feel free to add the information you gain to the wiki to improve it. It's easier for someone who isn't a long-time contributor to see good ways to describe things for new people wanting to contribute/make content

  2. Hi guys! I am an italian student of art and design. Now I have to choose a long term project for my school so I decided to create a game based on your engine, cause I think it's so darn good, and I always loved RTS games My project should be about changing the models and the graphic section of 0A.D. (models, textures, animations and stuff) replacing it with the one I'm going to create. My idea is to make a medieval version (in AoE2 style, cause I like that period of our history) and maybe then modify something in the substance to make it more personal, and make it fit with my ideas. I told my teacher about your game, your kindness and helpfulness also, so he said "ok let's see what you got!". Why am I telling you this? Well, first, cause I want to thank you for your work on that great project and for making it available as an open source. Second, cause I will need your help, and I hope I won't bother you with questions about my external project, but I will be really glad to get your help. It's the hardest project in my class, so I hope I can do it! Bye people, and thanks again!

  4. Josh I'm looking at your model in SketchUp and i like it. However the windows might be problamatic. In monochrome mode, one can see that should the camera point at the window, the interior wall would not be rendered. Perhaps make the wall double faced (offset the interior wall by making a rectangle underneath and using the offset tool [i believe its shortcut key is F]). Also I think its logical (although no historical evidence to back it up) that small buildings such as a mill would not have stone roofs but rather cheap wooden ones or even flat roofs.

  5. That means changing several textures already used in completed models... After a quick search, I notice the svastika shape as been used since ages and by many different cultures, and in both bending direction : link For my part, I think we can leave the symbol as it is, for 2 reasons : -it was used that way in India and that should be recognized, especially in a History-careful game -the symbol in the game will anyway appear among many others that will dim its visual impact a lot

  10. A few years ago, on the OpenTTD project (an open source transport sim) a contest (most winning AI in a tournament of all AIs) was particularly successful in coming up with new and different AIs. This aspect of the project had lagged for several years with a poor AI in place, and the project got a lot of energy into that area and generated several which are now included with the game: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=36059 The AI in 0AD is fine, but at some point it might be worth considering a contest model as one potential alternative use of $. - Dialectric

  11. Sure, this should obey usual code standard. Eventually a requirement could be to work tracking progress on a ticket or a thread forum rather than doing a single code drop. Also the reward should be given after the code is approved and committed and at least after two weeks without reported bugs. Good news with the pathfinding! Other example bounty could be: usable Android port; cleanup and commit tickets like #885; improvement of 5% speed of a reference game replay, working on an area of choice (excluding pathfinding if it's being rewritten); use a thread to get at least a 10% speed up of a reference game replay; other improvements few ones have interested in doing but that can benefit the game.

  12. An open source bounty is probably the way to go, but we would need to ensure the code is clean, not something someone has put together quickly. Everything runs on one core, one thread at the moment. The reason for this is so we can easily see speed bottlenecks (like pathfinding and the AI). Once the bottlenecks are improved, then we can split parts out into their own threads. This is still a while off though. Philip is working on the pathfinding, and wraitii (last I heard) is working on an AI rewrite to make it more efficient. So we're making progress toward speeding up the game.

  13. You maybe could set up an open source bounty to who is able to improve the pathfinding (or other areas).

  14. I guess the more pertinent issue is not to explore other channels to raise funds, like Kickstarter, but what the team plan on doing with the not immaterial pool of as yet unused funds raised in the last round.
