Audio Design 5 - Voice List

Recommended Posts

I think ideally the pronunciation should be authentic, but the actress doing the voice does not need to be ethnic Greek.

Can you confirm we'll only need these phrases for the female citizen:

- Yes?
- My Lord?
- How may I serve you?
- As you wish
- I'm coming
- On my way

Looks like an adequate list. Perhaps ask for a few generic death screams too.

Regarding Sweyn78's application - should he first work on enhancing our Ancient Greek voices, rather than creating new Roman voices?

bumpy. Should we replace the existing Hele voices?

Sorry :P

I would prefer to have them reviewed first, it was so long ago that these lists were compiled, but I'm not sure we have someone on the team with enough knowledge of ancient Greek to do that. Perhaps ask the forumers to help? There seems to be a couple with at least some knowledge of ancient Greek.

Good idea. How do I only copy the Greek column from the list?

Thanks fcxSanya, that'll work for now :)

I'd like to contact Erutuon to ask him to review the Ancient Greek voice list, but he doesn't have PM activated :(

Now he does :)

Moved from an internal WFG forum because I thought it was time to open it to the community, and it didn't seem like there were anybody's secrets in the thread.

Just today and yesterday, we have had offers over the forums and the contact form to record sounds in Greek and in Punic/Hebrew.

I've recorded about half of the things on the list for the Carthaginians, figured I should share them with you and see if there's any room for improvement, if they're good I'll record the other half, though how should I share them? I got all the files on my computer (they're .3GA files, by the way, recorded them through my phone, hope it'll work), so if you've got an uploading site that you're most comfortable with (rapidshare?) or something, I'll upload the files there.

I would say that depends on how large the files are. If they aren't more than a couple of MBs in a ZIP file you could just attach them to a post in the forum (click More Reply Options and add and attach them there). I would guess it's more than that though, but any uploading site should work fine for now. If we decide to add them we can upload them to our site, so it doesn't matter much where they are right now :)

Here you go, hope this works for you guys!

Edit: BTW, in the translation for Chop, I also added "Ehtov", ("Lahtov Etzim") which I think fits better, but "Ekrot" works too and I recorded it as well.

Can someone fix the first post's table formatting? I tried but I must not be able to use the table tag.

The same here. "Enable HTML" checkbox is missing. Maybe HTML-mode is disabled for this subforum?

Maybe HTML-mode is disabled for this subforum?

Can someone with access to Admin Control Panel check this:

ACP -> Forum Control -> Manage Forums -> Settings (on the forum you want allowed user groups to post raw HTML

Find "Allow use of the [doHTML] tag?". Set this option to "Yes". Click "Edit this forum".

(from here)

Edit: Jason, I moved the markup in your message under a spoiler, hope you don't mind :)

Sure, try recording a couple of sentences. Just remember that you need a pretty good microphone for the quality of the files to be good enough to be possible to be used in the game (another reason to just record a few to test at first, and then we can see if they are good enough to be used in the game :) ).

Has anybody tried working on to create new sounds for everything else in the game? Mute Catapults are very irksome.

I haven't opened 0 A.D. for about 2 months, but all siege units should have basic sound effects. Can you list any that don't? I'll check them when I return home in around a week.

Regarding catapult sounds - We first need a new actor time value implemented that's separate from the 'event' trigger when the projectile is released. Our attack sound effects currently start on the 'event', but for catapults and some other units the sound effects should start much earlier - for example when the Roman Ballista is being cranked ready to fire, that's when the cranking sound should start.

What we have now is:

<animation event="0.75" load="0.7" file="mechanical/rome_ballista_atttack.dae" name="Melee" speed="150"/>

Which fires the sound and projectile at event="0.75" and the projectile appears on the Ballista at load="0.7"

What we should have is something like this:

<animation event="0.75" load="0.7" sound="0.1" file="mechanical/rome_ballista_atttack.dae" name="Melee" speed="150"/>

Here the sound would start to play at sound="0.1" and would allow us to add the high-quality sound files that were created for catapults.

Also I've been eagerly awaiting looping movement sounds. We have a number of professional sounding looping siege movement sounds but we need a way for these to activate when the unit is moving. Currently only a short movement sound is played when a siege unit is tasked to move, but this isn't very realistic, you'd expect the movement sound to continue until the siege unit stops moving. Ships would also benefit from this.

We are working on implementing packing and unpacking for immobile siege units, so if your 'Mute Catapults' comment refers to the current catapult 'moonwalk' movement this will be replaced by packed horse/ox drawn carts. Although ox drawn carts rely on finding an animator to model and animate an Ox for us, but that could take years so we'll probably stick with horses for now :)
