  2. For the record, there are two old models already in the game as actors (special/old/hellenes_theatre.xml): The left skene seems to be from lycurgan phase, the right one from hellenistic. See also: https://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/art_source/trunk/concept art/structures/rtheater.jpg (roman theater) https://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/art_source/trunk/concept art/structures/hellenes-specialbuilding-theatrondetail.jpg https://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/art_source/trunk/concept art/structures/MDHafer-hellenestheatron001.jpg Seems to me like the first concepts were more accurate somehow

  5. Civilis did not possess a native Batavian navy. The vessels he commanded were captured Roman ships. Earlier in the rebellion, the Batavians had ambushed and captured Roman river flotillas (Classis Germanica) based along the Rhine, as well as light coastal vessels operating in the North Sea. To pad his numbers, Civilis added local transport boats, skiffs, and canoes. Tacitus notes in this quote you shared that he rigged these captured craft and boats with particoloured plaids (traditional Germanic woven cloaks) as improvised sails, creating a colorful visual display.
  6. Some phrases and ideas I found. The machine replicates the technique but not the sensitivity. This applies to the industrial revolution. It will become more expensive and elite to own something made through Craftsmanship art. People are going back to older techniques. You know how to do it by hand, and even with paint, and who knows, maybe even with natural paint. The Aesthetics of the "Smooth": Today, we find beauty in things that offer no resistance and cause no pain—like smartphones, Jeff Koons’ sculptures, or hairless skin. It is the triumph of positivity, where everything strange or disturbing is eliminated. ----- Now I say this: Without sacrifice there is no lasting gratification, only momentary gratification. That's why this project feels good. That's why building an empire over centuries is rewarding. Building more than consuming. Life loses its meaning if everything is so easy and immediate. Value your talents, guys.
  7. Only mention of Germans using sails seem to be during the Batavian Revolt, but they appear to be copying those in Roman ships (if not just replacing the sails in Roman ships that already had sails.)

  9. I fixed the helmet using a very rare one I found in 3D.
  10. I'm going to share something I didn't plan to share based on RTW2. Archer, third century. Theory should have a long lorica hamata, third-century helmet, oriental trousers. I couldn't agree on the helmet. It took me many tries. I'm going to use it as a base for drawing it.
  11. Hello again, back from the wild with answers and questions of my own. I am still constructing possible phrases for the audio pack, irl stuff preventing me from focusing on this until recently. However, I have also been updating all the names of units, buildings and some technologies to have proper Proto-Zapotec (pZ) names. However, I am stuck on choosing between several options for a few buildings/units, because there is no direct translation possible and I ended up crafting multiple viable alternatives. If possible, could some of you have an opinion on some of the options I will list below for the troublesome translations? And if there is any idea for an alternate translation, do please let me know. (Note, the usage of a word for "eagle" is to denote championship, because of the concept of the eagle soaring over all, and because it is part of a larger mesoamerican tradition for using certain animals to denote skills and levels of skills) Scout/Sentry/Stone Tower (this is just for the word "tower"): kinilyasa (“tower, (lit.) nest-trunk”). Alt. kexlli (“tower, (lit.) standing-stone”). Alt. kexkiya (“tower, (lit.) raised-stone”). Alt. sshbexekiya (“tower, (lit.) above cloud”). I am essentially out of ideas how to represent scout at all, save perhaps use the word for "eagle" to denote far-sight or something. Champion Javelineers: Nazale’chisllo’kiya ("raised/uplifted spear thrower"). Alt. Nazale’kiya ("raised/uplifted thrower," there is no champion slingers to contradict such a contraction). Alt. Nazale’chis Nikwã-ssiya (“Eagle Spear-thrower”). Swordsman/Macuahuitl Warrior: Nike’yu Kiza’naru’ba’ ("macuahuitl(?) man"). Alt. Nike’yu Macahuitl ("Macuahuitl Man"). Alt. Nike’yu Llo’kex ("Obisidian Man"). Alt. Nadile ("fighter" pZ neologism made from a modern Zapotec word of unknown but trustworthy extraction). ALT FINAL. Nadile Llo’kex ("Obsidian Fighter"). For those wondering, there is no word in proto-zapotec for towers or any kind of fortification, any kind of fighting man, concepts involving war or weapons, save for a single word for 'arrow' (and the neologism I made). Even modern zapotec dialects/languages appears to have almost swapped any native words they once had for Spanish loanwords .
  12. and did disabling gpu skinning help? If not what is your hardware and what OS are you using?
  13. Charon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charon
  14. I made a github repo: https://github.com/Jeff-web-sketch/0adwebsite. I you guys want to make your own, that is fine. Also, @Stan` what are the images for the 0ad website lisenced under, cc by sa 3.0?
  15. Maybe what we could do, is make a site hosted separately from play0ad.com, and then when we complete it, we can have some people review it, and then we can make that the new 0ad website. @bowen951209, you started this thread, is there any specific things you wanted to add or change, or just the things you mentioned in your first post? Maybe we could make a play off all the changes we want, then we start. Also, I am wondering if we should just start over, because I at least am not understanding how the current website setup works, unless someone could explain it to me

  17. Correct conclusion. I can stop now if that would be a new bigish feature, than sure!
  18. Thinking about new features for the release, if this PR gets merged, maybe we could go with Chariton of Aphrodisias (Χαρίτων, Chariton) was a Greek writer of the Roman imperial period, known as the author of Chaereas and Callirhoe, one of the ancient Greek novels preserved in its entirety. Almost nothing is known about his life, but his work holds an important place in the early history of the Western novel. Caryatid is also a great option!!
  19. We may need to switch letters soon - the rule is not to repeat ourselves, right? Cannot continue conceiving crazy casts.
  20. C-long codenames causing constant confusion c-indeed! CrAsher
  21. Considerably cool cases causing constant confusion! (I thing we might be slowly overdoing this a bit - but it is fun indeed).
