Game Balance: Battering Rams, the 0 A.D. tanks?...
Thalatta replied to krt0143's topic in Gameplay Discussion
Not really. I mean, sure if you are thinking about a light ram, but the larger rams in the game are what is called tortoise rams, named like that because of their slowness. Kind of pointing to the (uncontrollable, but renewable and killable) base garrison idea I’ve mentioned many times, which would also take the place of the abstract capture points and not really increase micro, if properly implemented. Which, also as discussed, is nonsense, and boring. Everything should be needed depending on the situation. Yes, but that doesn't mean they'd all be levied at the same time. For most Greek city-states, that fraction would have been around one third, for example. I agree with your proposal that siege should be fixed, but, as I’ve said a couple of months ago, "when people bring it up, then some jump to say that they "don’t understand the game" and "things are balanced", which completely misses the point of being inaccurate, thus counterintuitive. I could make melee infantry fly and make a perfectly balanced game". - Today

@wowgetoffyourcellphone DE goes up to 500 AD, if I remember correctly? I can see all factions in https://mod.io/g/0ad/m/delenda-est#description, but is there a place where their heroes and bonuses are stated, for fast reference?

In DE, I've added Gorgo for Spartans (as a bonus for Leonidas: Royal Marriage). I was thinking of adding Olympias and Roxana (Rawšanak) along with one more male hero for the Macedonians (perhaps someone more "obscure", like Eumenes), for a total of 7 for them.

Artemisia I is well known and was held in high regard even by those sympathetic to the opposite side. That you need to Google her and instead get a plant, thus incorrectly concluding she was not "emblematic", only exposes your own ignorance. Try reading Herodotus, or something actually substantial. Artemisia II's marriage could have been a non-physical arrangement for all we know, but your comment is utterly irrelevant, not only by itself but also given the period, culture, and considering we have plenty of Ptolemaic royal heroes anyway. What I count is allegiance, not ethnicity, which is what matters in combat. Regarding Lǚ Mǔ, I really wonder who are you to say that the first female rebel leader in Chinese history has a "low history", do you conclude this by the length of the quoted French Wikipedia article your extensive research is based on? Or can you share with us which Chinese history books on the matter you have read?

(Forgot to answer this) The new ai seems to work fine, I made a few improvements to it’s build files so that it builds buildings unique to HC (allowing it to build Wonders before city phase, and to build multiple barracks types, etc.), and I’ve only encountered one major error: when the ai orders an attack, the units all head to a point to “regroup”. However, for whatever reason the sometimes (often) get stuck at that regroup point, as they all try to walk to it, get in each other’s way, and forever do this weird thing where they walk to a point in the center, push each other away, then try it again. Because of this, the ai tends to have tons of attacking units whi never reach their destination.

Position: Social Media Management Do you understand that Wildfire Games is a non-commercial project, work for 0 A.D. is volunteer, and work is done for free? Yes Do you agree to distribute all your work for Wildfire Games under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license? Yes Are you sure you are not wanting to work on something programming related? (Then you don't need to send in an application form.) Yes Name: Iwan Brown Email: iwanpbrown@gmail.com Location: Wales Availability: At the moment 15+, but in the coming year around 10-15. Age: 21 Occupation: Student (finished with university work, yet to graduate) Skills and Experience: I have just finished a university degree in film production and marketing, additionally I have managed the social media on multiple platforms for the university folklore society and managed the social media for my mothers health and safety business. I'd like to think I was quite skilled in community building and communication., having taken the society from 0 members (when I founded it) to 40 paying Members, a large discord and many successfully advertised events with the majority of attendees having learnt of the society through the Instagram (main platform for promotion) similarly appearances on university and commercial radio achieved through social media reach. Motivation: I had lots of fun working on a project I was invested in and I would like to get more experience in an area I would like to go into one day professionally, and if thats by promoting a game I love Personality: I'd like to think quite personable and generally mild. Short Essay: I found out about the game only a brief time ago after researching open source games like freeciv. After playing and researching a little, I saw on your website that you were looking for social media management and I thought that I might be able to support a free game that I love and gain some real life experience managing a social media, put my degree into practice and hopefully grow the community of the game. Interests and Hobbies: In terms of interests of course I love games, most specifically historic strategy games, having played the total war series and stronghold series since a child. Aside from that I am fond of reading, especially historical fiction. I have a great adoration for folklore, especially the folklore of Britain and spend time reading, interviewing and organizing related trips. Additionally I am fond of birdwatching, especially coastal birds native to wales and I have recently purchased a dinghy that I have been rowing about the cliffs for better bird watching. Staff: No, But I'd be eager to make their acquaintance. Community: None really, apart from the social media, website and discord for my own folklore society project. Favorite Game: Recently I have been enjoying Kingdom come: Deliverance 2 because it creates a brilliant world. But my favorite game of all time is Napoleon: Total War, It was the first game I really played regularly as a child and have been playing with my friends in school and university since. Work Examples: Most of the social media projects I have worked on have been handed off to new managers (since leaving university) or the business has shut down (through no fault of my own id like to hope)

News: Following my initial idea and combining it with the Endovelico mod (however, I'm developing it completely separately for easy application for anyone who wants to use it) World map: Made with GeoJson using the QGIS application; It is now possible to train more than one Hero/General. Coming soon: FrogWar, province defense updates, and perhaps skirmish maps entirely focused on combat, a total war-like hybrid. I'm still seeing what's possible at the moment.
