King Tutankhamun
Now that will be interesting! http://www.betanews.com/article/3D_TV_with...2020/1124471972
Black Op
Hehe, tis such a same that such things would have to wait at least a decade until the average person can afford them.
Argalius
I don't know if I really want to smell anything, or touch the things on tv... And how are they going to shoot 3D movies...
goldenratiophi
Aha! This must be what Emeril was talking about! Edited August 21, 2005 by goldenratiophi
King Tutankhamun
Ooo, that would be neat! Smell the foods. Here's another article on it:http://www.computerworld.com/hardwaretopic...,104061,00.html
goldenratiophi
And how are they going to shoot 3D movies...←Well, theoretically, the easiest way to do this would be to have a four-dimensional video camera.
Natedog
Four-dimensial video camera? What would that look like? Something that occupies the fourth dimension and can slip in and out of our three anytime it wants?
goldenratiophi
I have no clue what it would look like...Think about it: 2-dimensional cameras can capture one-dimensional videos.3-dimensional cameras can capture 2-dimensional videos.Logically, 4-dimensional cameras can capture 3-dimensional videos. ProgramZeta
I'd think that the first 3D movies would be adaptations of 3D computer animation. Personally, I think that since 2D shows are easier to make and easier to view, they'll stay as the majority. Of course, some big shift in technology will happen, and I'll look like an idiot :x

Uppy
I don't see how they are going to be able to do that.... But that will be rather cool.

SGE
If I understood the picture correctly, there is something definitly wrong. How can it be 2D and shoot from a 3D angle.
Mythos_Ruler
Well, I understand exactly what Carlos is getting at. However, we do not have any examples of a 2D camera in existance (in fact, they are impossible for us 3D being to create). I doubt it will take a 4D camera in order to take 3D pictures, just 2 apertures for the 3D camera to similar the two "apertures" in of our eyes. King Tutankhamun
Yea, kinda like those stereovision pictures.
Yiuel
The idea is to measure the space of a vision. To do it, you need three information : distance under and over the horizon, distance left and right from the middle of one's vision, and distance from the viewpoint. So, you don't film in the same way as taking a picture, it is more calculation and evaluation. To create touch, you must have some force acting against your skin. Finally, for smelling, the idea is to project the right chemicals in the air at the right time.

pyrolink
They already have 3D videos, but not commericially. For example, Disney World has a few theaters with it. There are special glasses you have to put on though. And as for this dimensions discussion : TV operates in 3 dimensions, width, height, and time. So it takes a 3 dimensional camera to take a 3 dimensional picture; it has width, height, and time->it's a video. So what do you say to that? CodeOptimist
There already are pseudo-3D videos -- Spy Kids 3D, The Polar Express, and various IMAX "In 3D!!111" specials. The former was shot with two seperate cameras (at slightly different points of view), combined to create a stereo image in post-production, if I remember correctly. King Tutankhamun
And there were lots of 3D movies in theaters in the 80's where you had to wear those pimpin red/blue glasses.
Titus Ultor
It would probably require a recording studio to have a ring of panoramic cameras around all sides.. possible, but definately expensive.
