wackyserious
Here's a quick wooden wall concept which I did earlier (Based on sources found at http://viking.destinationviking.com/en/attractions.html) Ívarr hinn Beinlausi or Ivar "the Boneless" Ragnarsson Currently, we can use the Roman siege wall as placeholder for the Norse wooden wall and tower Edited March 10, 2016 by wackyserious
niektb
How about the gates for your proposed wooden wall? Also, should this replace the palisade wall or should it be added as a stronger type of wall?
wackyserious
I'll make additional concepts for the wall tower and gatehouse It'll be a stone wall substitute, it costs wood and food (labor) We can also make this available for the Anglo-Saxons
wackyserious
I propose that we include the Norse viking chieftain Hastein to the hero unit roster. - 859-862 AD, Said to have raided in Spain and the Mediterranean together with Bjorn Ironside, fought against the Kingdom of Asturias and the Umayyads in Spain, raided several Italian cities (Including the City of Luna, where he feigned that he was dying and wanted to convert to Christianity, as a premise to enter the city. he was accepted inside the settement, together with some of his men, and after entering the church, he stood up from where he was laid down, and started the raid of the city. This event might be familiar to those who have watched History's Vikings, but it was Ragnar Lothbrok that was depicted in the show and not Hastein) - 866 AD, fought together with the Duchy of Britanny against the Franks in the Battle of Brissarte, which resulted the death of Robert the Strong (Father of Odo of France, the defender of Paris against the Viking raiders) - 892 AD, Raided in England and fought against the Anglo-Saxons during Alfred the Great's reign, present at the Battle of Buttington Edited March 30, 2016 by wackyserious
niektb
A fourth hero? Wouldn't that be a bit much?
wackyserious
I think he is a better candidate, since he participated in conflicts against three of our mod's factions (Umayyads, Franks and Anglo-Saxons) He fought against Alfred the Great and Charles the Bald (reigning emperor of West Francia when Paris was besieged) We can keep the other heroes as campaign heroes available via Atlas Edited March 31, 2016 by wackyserious
niektb
But which hero should leave the field then?
wackyserious
Erik the Red or Leif Ericsson? Since both are characteristically considered as explorers/colonizers, therefore having similar hero bonuses. We could keep Erik and drop Ericsson, since Erik's settlement stood longer than his son's, and that he had more combat experience..
niektb
Alright, I would keep Erik the Red (since we already have art for it) Any ideas for his aura? Edited March 31, 2016 by niektb
wackyserious
Maybe a raider type hero, similar to Brennus of the Gauls (+10 metal loot per enemy killed)
niektb
Sounds good, I've committed it

niektb
I've committed a bunch of new unit icons to better reflect the new unit textures that were added a while ago: Edited April 1, 2016 by niektb
Lion.Kanzen
The new units looks gorgeous .
Le Druide Gaulois
The units are looking great, but I'm afraid they look way too norse. We could seek to differentiate them by using typically Saxon helmets.
niektb
@Le Druide Gaulois: using Anglo-Saxon helmets is the idea, but since we have no one that can model them... BTW, I think you meant to post in the Saxon topic, not here. Edited April 2, 2016 by niektb

wackyserious
I'm thinking of adding new Norse shield textures that depicts boars, but I can't find a good source.. (I found Celtic ones tho, similar to the Gallic warship sails but that would be inaccurate if we'll use those.) There were three named boars in Norse mythology, Gullinbursti (Freyr's) Hildisvíni (Freyja's) Sæhrímnir (Served as food in Valhalla) Edited May 5, 2016 by wackyserious
wackyserious
Serpents/dragons were also very common in Viking age art, specially Nidhogg. Nidhogg (A dragon entangled in the roots of Yggdrasil, it slowly eats the roots of the world tree while waiting for Ragnarok) Jormungand (The serpent that encircles the Earth)
