LordGood
Revised the barrackstook out trussed railings and replaced them with the simple wooded ones similar to those on the tower. Added more merlons. Remapped merlonsEDIT: remapped that one dark railing in the big window, file is updatedptol_barracks_3.5.zip
sanderd17
Can the corner merlon be made more like the photo Michael posted? I think they can be a bit taller too.Apart from those things, I really like it.
LordGood
Thanks Micheal's reference image is of Sunaysilah Castle, which is both out of chronological and regional context (reconstruction of a middle eastern castle). If I had to venture a guess it would be closer to Indian medieval than Egyptian antiquity. Plus making the crenels taller would dwarf the entryway, I did give that a go. Ancient Egyptian wall reliefs depict relatively shallow crenelated walls.
LordGood
Eastern Oman, so right smack dab in between Egypt and India xp
LordGood
Not too sure about it just yet
Mythos_Ruler
One of the problems I have with the Egyptian buildings right now is the oversaturated stone colors. Makes it look cartoony compared to the others.
LordGood
But they feel so warm and cozy!lol yeah, I have to agree, side by side with the other faction buildings it becomes painfully apparent...or maybe I'm just not using them right :/
LordGood
Any other glaring issues when it comes to the turret? I don't want to rush the city walls without my team.I'd probably get shot a few times.
Lion.Kanzen
Good turret, with barrack can be more tiny the merlon. Like Persian. The textures with all buildings can be more gray than yellow is the way to mix with some Greek buildings.May be use a tool to desaturated yellow only. I like the progress. And with some skirmish and the hunt system is excellent, like age of empires. Edited October 20, 2013 by Lion.Kanzen
LordGood
when you slow down the simulation, you realize just how deadly your towers and fortresses arepew pew!so using the Persian wall segments for size is leaving gaps, maybe because I'm using the Carthaginian walls for a template and Carthage's walls are enormous. Maybe it's because I'm using slope towers too, that could be it.This civilization is going to be a boatload of fun I can already tell. Lion.Kanzen
Very good, excellent looks so strong. Whst are left now, the blacksmith?
LordGood
Thanks! I still need to tweak the short segment, do the medium segment and the long one, after that we have themarket, military settlement, dock, corral, wonder, library, and last but definitely not least, the lighthouse
Mythos_Ruler
I'd make the tower a bit taller. I think a lot of our wall towers are too short, so might as well start with this one and have it be taller. Maybe 20% taller.
Sighvatr
The Ptolemies are already my best playing faction too. My pikemen bulldoze through people when equiped with upgrades. The Elephants paired with pikemen just absolutely devastate buildings. Really helps when you don't have to pay resources for houses and mills which gives me an easy start in the beginning.I don't use the units provided in the military settlement though. The Gauls are too expensive (100 metal each) for their quality. The Greek cavalry are weak, and I would rather use the champion cavalry or elephants. I don't see the point in another type of cavalry either.Buildings look good in my opinion when playing on Oasis, or the Nile. When playing on the Cantabarian Highlands, the buildings do look cartoony, and they really stand out from the green grass. Perhaps if you make the buildings look more brown or more faded it may fit. Ludo38
The texture that is being used for the rooftop is too saturated i think, looks almost like gold ! I suggest to desaturate it a bit, too have it looking closer to the tone of the walls. Also, the blue and yellow strip is maybe too big (too high), which increase this cartoon effect I think. having it thiner, at least on the tower and defense walls would probably help. What do you think ?Out of that, these new models are really cool. Egypt is coming to us pretty fast !
LordGood
Alrighty, thanks for the feedback guys!so I did a few tweaks here and there, made segment a bit longer, squashed the stripes a bit, and made the tower about 20% cool- uh... taller.I messed with the merlons a little too
Ludo38
Looks really good, but still a bit cartoonesque I must say...I feel like it's because of the merlons...
LordGood
lol I dont know why I was using plaster texture on the crenelationsof course they look stupid
Lion.Kanzen
I like feel strong structure, only are missing props may be spears. Edited October 20, 2013 by Lion.Kanzen
Ludo38
lol I dont know why I was using plaster texture on the crenelationsof course they look stupidThe third version works good for me. On the middle one, the top looks too "chocolate" ! Yeah, I think now the merlons are alright.

LordGood
lol thanks Lion!anyone know how to tackle the gatehouse doors? There's a tad bit of animating involved, I at least know that.
WhiteTreePaladin
That reminds me of BFME2 where you could build walls directly off of the fortress.
LordGood
That could be a fun thing to implement. I always wondered why in most games towers walls and castles where separate. Well, unless you count the Stronghold series.Love strongholdSo, this gate business is all Greek to me when it comes to animating doors, so I just built the housing. The Persian armature is in there so all that's really left is to model some fancy city gates and stick them on the bones.Unless, of course, all y'all hate it. I won't have much more time for 0AD in the next few days, unfortunately.
